I visited Queenstown earlier this year but I would assume that people who live there support the Highlanders? Seeing that it is the closest team to their town?

Queenstown to Dunedin by car is 3.5 hours
Queenstown to Christchurch by car is 6 hours I'd imagine if you were from that part of Queenstown/North Sound you would support 1 of those 2 South Island teams |
