after fixing a fixture against the weakest team in the group, Uruguay, only 4 days after a tough game against Fiji ...

England have made eight changes for their final Rugby World Cup match against Uruguay with Sam Burgess omitted from the matchday squad.

Defeats against Wales and Australia have brought a premature end to England's campaign and they have given a glimpse of a future with Henry Slade included at outside centre and Jack Nowell on the flank as they get their first starts of the tournament.

But there is no Burgess in the matchday 23 for the clash at the City of Manchester Stadium while Brad Barritt, Ben Youngs, Kieran Brookes and Ben Morgan also drop out of the squad.

Slade links up with Owen Farrell in the 15th different centre combination of the Lancaster tenure with Alex Goode, Anthony Watson and Nowell forming the back three. George Ford and Danny Care are paired at half-back with the latter featuring for the first time in this tournament.

In the pack Mako Vunipola, Tom Youngs and Dan Cole form the front-row with Geoff Parling and Joe Launchbury named in the second-row. James Haskell, captain Chris Robshaw and Nick Easter form the back-row.

"Brad Barritt (arm) and Courtney Lawes (knee) are not available this weekend and Ben Morgan (dead leg) and Ben Youngs (ankle) will not be able to train fully until Thursday," Lancaster said. "This is an opportunity for us to finish the tournament with a strong performance against Uruguay and a chance for the likes of young players such as Jack Nowell and Henry Slade to play in a World Cup.

"We owe it to ourselves and the supporters who have been brilliant throughout. This is an important game for rugby in the north of England and we want to give those people who have been looking forward to this game something to cheer about."

England: Alex Goode, Anthony Watson, Henry Slade, Owen Farrell, Jack Nowell, George Ford, Danny Care; Mako Vunipola, Tom Youngs, Dan Cole, Joe Launchbury, Geoff Parling, James Haskell, Chris Robshaw (captain), Nick Easter

Replacements: Jamie George, Joe Marler, David Wilson, George Kruis, Tom Wood, Richard Wigglesworth, Jonathan Joseph, Mike Brown

It must be horrible to be in the England dressing room. A meaningless game and everyone just wanting to get away from the competition and wanting to put it behind them.

There will be more bad press in the Sunday papers whether they score 60 or 16, I couldn't back England with stolen money.

I hope they put on some sort of show to enable Stuart Lancaster to leave with a bit of dignity.

tickets on sale for £2.50

It’s been reported that tickets for the England v Uruguay in Manchester today have been put on the market by disgruntled fans for as little as £2.50.

Steve Diamond, Sale’s director of rugby, has claimed tickets for the dead rubber have dropped to less than three pounds and that’s “No bull”.

Category A tickets for the match were on sale before the tournament for up to £260, meaning at the new price you would only be paying 0.96% of face value of the premium ticket.

Gotta bollocking on the Jocks match and got all bets in on Taffs (Aussies really) so left to Morris Dancers for profit or loss. Handicaps seem very high though.
