NZ first up and they could struggle. but England are short of a few players too. NZ also short, Savea, Reid not playing and Cruden still very rusty. Looking forward to the game.

difficult to see see England having any real cohesion & we will probably never see anything like this XV play for england in a "meaningful test", maybe but unlikely imo.
if both sides are digging into the reserves i know where i think the richer seam is, but i really do hope this england side england are up to it i'm not sure this should be called a test match. very unfair on England travelling a very long way at the end of a long season with so many players unavailable and little time to plan. i guess it pays the bills tho. dear god i'm making excuses for England, what the hell is wrong with me????????????????????????????????? |

By:
haha northanlite, don't worry as a NZer I can understand where you are coming from. Our radio stations are "warning" about the English players playing for a spot in the team etc and NZ having its first game being able to surprise. However many expecting a 20+ victory. Lets hope its a good game nevertheless.

as an aside I was "lucky" to get plenty with our local bookie at 1.10 on NZ and have layed some off on here. NZ was at a "gift" of 1.15 a few weeks ago (again local bookie). Do not see that very often.

I think England +23 at evens looks a fair enough.
Obviously England are short of a few players, but it has been a while since The AB'S have played together and in the past have needed a few games before hitting top gear. Lancaster doesn't strike me as someone who is going to be happy to send a team out to take a drubbing and I'm hoping England can somehow make this a competitive match. I'm also hoping France will turn up in the 2nd Live game this morning and give The Wallabies a game. |

Does anyone know the score in the Fiji v Italy game, thanks in advance?
By:
in all seriousness given the available players should this not be some level below a "test match?" maybe there should be a challenge match level or something like that with fewer ranking pts.
with the demands of club rugby it is almost impossible for the northern hemisphere sides to take a full strength squad on tour these days. i know it aint easy for the SH teams in November either but it is definitely a little bit easier. |

Does anyone know the score in the Fiji v Italy game, thanks in advance? i texted my pal in oz & all i got back was "fiji won" he is clearly too tight for details. i think we should leave it as an unconfirmed fiji victory |

By:
Fiji 25 Italy 14 (However I found this on Fiji's Facebook page,so I'm presuming it's correct,but not 100% sure)

i think the evidence of a fiji win is mounting

Former Australian under-20 representative Nemani Nadolo scored 15 of Fiji's 25 points as they beat Italy in a one-off Test in Suva.
Fiji triumphed in their one-off Test against Italy in Suva as former NSW Waratahs winger Nemani Nadolo scored 15 points in a 25-14 victory. Nadolo scored the first of Fiji's three tries and added two conversions and a pair of penalties on Saturday. The 26-year-old is a former Australian under-20 representative and his pace and power on the wing has fortified the Crusaders' back division this Super Rugby season. The Flying Fijians were 7-5 behind at halftime but dominated the second period to clinch the home win at the ANZ National Stadium. Italy were awarded a 10th-minute penalty try, given for repeated collapsing of the Fiji scrum, and Luciano Orquera booted the conversion. Nadolo's try cut into that lead but Jonetani Ralulu failed to add the extras and then missed a penalty, as Fiji were held at bay until the interval. Dominiko Waqaniburotu put Fiji ahead for the first time when a flowing move was finished off by the back-row forward, and Nadolo took over kicking responsibilities, nudging Fiji 12-7 ahead early in the second half. Two penalties from Nadolo stretched the lead, yet a second Italian penalty try, again converted by Orquera, drew the teams closer once more. Napolioni Nalaga killed off the Italians though with the home side's third try two minutes from the end. Nadolo successfully converted Nalaga's try to seal Fiji's win |

well done fiji. it would be a good thing if more teams travelled over for a test now & again. if that happened they may not think 7's is the only game worth playing

did someone just make a big boo boo on the draw at 42?

NZ don't always start series too fast, but they are up against a bit of a mess of an England team here. NZ are in the middle of their season, England are right at the end of theirs, England's 9,10,12 axis has been completely disrupted and that's not ideal now that Conrad Smith is back at 13 and Nonu seems to be on form at 12. There's enough talent in the England team to put up a fight, but there are surely too many areas for NZ to exploit.
Not sure if that adds up to a 20+ point margin, although if the rain holds off I can certainly imagine tries here. |

any why are they playing English songs at Eden Park?

How on earth has Lancaster decided that Burns should start ahead of Cipriani by the way? Burns has been utter dog-crap all season, whereas Cipriani has been bang on form.
By:
sounds like being in church.

Thanks all for the Fiji updates!
By:
I agree RM,but I read earlier in the week that Cipriani had an injury doubt over him. Can't be that bad if he still makes the bench.

By:
1.86 being matched on over 5.5 tries while the bookies were 11/10 to 11/8
Get some funny prices matched on here. |

It's true though Northanlite. Burns signed for Leicester some time around christmas and hasn't done a thing right ever since. Shouldn't be 14th choice, let alone 3rd or 4th.
By:
i got 6/4 for over 5.5 tries which seems reasonable.
By:
That's certainly the way I'm leaning. Got to be holes in this England defence, they just can't be all that organised, and it's not like NZ lack firepower.
By:
cipriani has a lot of bridges to build yet. i think if he stays on a straight path he will too. he is a huge talent.

By:
ah the haka, i so love love it.
can i put that link up to the 1970's version again??? |

Burns is a joke selection for sure.
Shame about the cluster **** which has ended up with this Test being the first Sat in June rather than the second sat which is apparently the window for these games. Don't know where the blame lies but it is a real shame Eng have to lineup here one week after the aviva final. Somebody c*cked up big time somewhere in a blazer. |

By:
Nice start England.
By:
mr greenwood is spot on but as usual an early card is unlikely and an early NZ card unheard of.
By:
Should have been a NZ yellow already. Cynical from Nonu, and Owens doesn't generally hold back.
By:
Out on the full comp = 1-1
By:
do you think it is a pre game Kiwi mantra "save the try at all costs, give up the 3 if needs be"
By:
Some chances for Eng here for sure but you feel they will need more points from this early ball
By:
england getting shafted already, no way that went forward
By:
knock-ons for players knocking it miles backwards now. Is this rugby league?
By:
i like owens but those black shirts seem to get to refs as well as opponents.
By:
Definitely a mantra, or even an ethos, northanlite. NZ will happily give away a hundred pens to save a try. And it works for them because they don't get anywhere near as many yellows as they should, so no reason to stop doing it.

Robshaw is having a blinder

Really have to finish those off though. Great start England.
