First the bad news. Home teams are 13-4 in Super rugby finals. Only one team has won a final offshore. Only teams finishing top two have won a final. Brumbies finished third.

That's the main reason Chiefs are 1.30ish and Brumbies 4.0ish. If any team can go against history and win tonight it's the Brumbies. They have the best away win record in the comp. They are the only team ever in Super rugby to win seven consecutive away games.

The Brumbies are up near the top of the table for all the attack and defence stats. They have the lowest number of tries scored against them in the comp. The Chiefs are up the top for attack stats and down the bottom for defence stats. Of the 18 contests between the two clubs the Chiefs have won six. However they have won the last two. It's not helpful that the two teams haven't played each other this year.

The influence of Jake White on this team is immense. The game plan will be purely South African. Long kicks out of their own territory. Keen chasing. Intense breakdown work. Strong set piece. Letting the backs loose deep in opposition territory. Most Brumbies tries are scored out wide. Putting pressure on and converting that into points through Lealifano's boot. It's proved very successful this year including last week's sensational win over the Bulls.

The Brumbies strengths include what I think is the best back row in the comp. Mowen Kimlin and George Smith. Nic White at 9 has played well and his boot is invaluable. Toomua the best defensive 10 in rugby. He will no doubt look to crunch his opposite number. Jesse Mogg's massive boot is also key. The fact that he's a left footer helps.

Hopefully the Brumbies can start well and keep the Chiefs under pressure. The Chiefs are brilliant counter attackers from kicks and also effective at counter rucks. I think the Brumbies are well in this. I think they are the only team in the comp that could win against the Chiefs. The odds and/or the start look generous.

Of course the Chiefs may start at 100mph and blow the Brumbies off the park!! We'll wait and see!

Bet that is really standing out for me is over 7.5 points Brumbies 1st half with Lads. Think they will come out firing as they did last week in Pretoria and Lealifano is kicking excellently
Report The_KAMIKAZEE_DRINKING_MACHINE August 3, 2013 8:07 AM BST
Agree. They do like to rack up a few goals early on.
Report in hell August 3, 2013 8:41 AM BST
Clear pen missed by Joubert . Moore was offside and interfering
Report rommel August 3, 2013 8:45 AM BST
nearly there bri,looking good
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:02 AM BST
Didn't connect well with that either.
Report in hell August 3, 2013 9:16 AM BST
Appalling from Kerr-Barlow . Faffing around again
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:18 AM BST
Bit odd this. Joubert could have given a pen against Smith for clearly coming around the side, which he does without doubt, but he didn't and asks the video ref who ignores it.

Where does the "it was a tackle only" comment come from though?
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:21 AM BST
Another classic HT interview with a player, intelligible through his gumshield.

Why do they insist on carrying on with this shyte?
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:21 AM BST
Smith clearly looked in at the side on the replay.  Surprised that try was given tbh
Report rommel August 3, 2013 9:23 AM BST
anything stand out for anyone going into the 2nd half?
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:24 AM BST
Chiefs to win at evens
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:29 AM BST
I suppose it's not the Video ref's responsibility to see basic ruck offences, but Smith stopped Kerr-Barlow going right by being offside, so the Brumbies directly profited from it.

I think the Chiefs come out like they did last week in the second half. Might be some tired legs for the Brumbies by the end.
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:30 AM BST
Laid the Brumbies at 2.26

I've got bits on both sides now, but the draw is certainly the best result. I was enjoying all that penalty trading, the Brumbies try was a bit of a spoiler.
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:36 AM BST
Hmmmm.....
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:36 AM BST
Some poor ruck control from the Chiefs tonight. Brumbies being too smart for them.
Report in hell August 3, 2013 9:37 AM BST
Chiefs need to get Sam Cane on , Huge problems at the breakdown
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:39 AM BST
Cheers, BTW, Rommel!  Grin
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:40 AM BST
What on earth is Messam up to there?
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:44 AM BST
Decisions, decisions....
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:45 AM BST
That's so convenient for the Brumbies to be offside you really should be looking at yellow cards by now. Pen every attack, then a try-saver.
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:45 AM BST
FFS
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:46 AM BST
Dear oh dear Cruden.

Anscombe is a better kicker generally as well.
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:48 AM BST
Be amazed if the video ref can find anything conclusive here. May be a try, but very hard to see.
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:49 AM BST
Balance of probabilities says it's a try, but is that enough?
Report in hell August 3, 2013 9:49 AM BST
Agree Anscombe is much more reliable . Cruden having a nervous night
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:51 AM BST
Truth is that the Chiefs are making far too many errors. Brumbies lower risk, scrap for everything style of rugby is going to bring them a championship here.
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:55 AM BST
And again. All that work, so much momentum, then one player forgets to look at the ball.
Report in hell August 3, 2013 9:55 AM BST
Poor hands from Cane
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:56 AM BST
error strewn indeed

getting crucial now for home team with just 1/4 to go
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:56 AM BST
Nic White WTF???
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:57 AM BST
Brumbies tiring or starting to think about it?
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:57 AM BST
That was an absurd pen from Joubert. He couldn't see clear scrum pens in the Lions test, yet he's got a man there for being on his knees where at best the knee has scraped the ground. Made no effect whatsoever.
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:58 AM BST
ffs he can't see it
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:58 AM BST
Must have made it, but can we see it?
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:58 AM BST

Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:58 AM BST

Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 9:59 AM BST
Agreed, sadly
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 9:59 AM BST
I can't see the ball at any point.

Overs backers must be fuming here.
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 9:59 AM BST
Still here for the Chiefs if they can make 2 passes without dropping the ball

Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 10:03 AM BST
Laugh Was just thinking that myself, Vis, though I'd take that too given my Brumbies red!
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:03 AM BST
That would really make me angry.
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 10:04 AM BST
Let's see how strong or not Joubert is with the cards when the Brumbies do repeat offences on their line with a 5 point lead

Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:09 AM BST
No team like the Chiefs when the game opens up. Players everywhere who can find gaps.
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:13 AM BST
Brumbies dont really look like a team with a try in them at the moment
Report in hell August 3, 2013 10:14 AM BST
White got hit by a bus at that breakdown
Report in hell August 3, 2013 10:14 AM BST
Brumbies need to get the ball Spleight . Although i think he has only touched the ball twice tonight
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:16 AM BST
And that should be that.
Report in hell August 3, 2013 10:16 AM BST
Brumbies look shattered
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 10:16 AM BST
Bit early for 1.01 though
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:18 AM BST
Well that looked like a pen to me. How can he grab the scrum half's hand and be onside?
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 10:18 AM BST
Suicide
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 10:18 AM BST
Mogg you bloody idiot
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:20 AM BST
Shame. I managed to back the Chiefs 1-12 at the start and fail to make a profit out of this game.
Report Latalomne August 3, 2013 10:20 AM BST
Gotta feel for the Brumbies but they lost the plot in the last 20, probably partly due to fatigue....
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 10:21 AM BST
Fair play Chiefs to come from behind.  Looked well in control last 10 mins.
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:22 AM BST
Back to back championships is no easy thing. The Chiefs were erratic also-rans for so many years, now they still play similar rugby but win tournaments. Impressive stuff.
Report RugbyMan August 3, 2013 10:30 AM BST
And back to back man of the match awards for Liam Messam. That really is impressive.
Report The_KAMIKAZEE_DRINKING_MACHINE August 3, 2013 11:22 AM BST
Made a profit on the game but would gladly given it away for a Brumbies win. They went well, mostly. Costly brain snaps by Mogg which is a worry since he's being touted as future wallaby. Chiefs bench really made a difference, once again emphasising the depth of NZ rugby. Heartbreaking loss for the Brumbies, they were virtually filling the trophy with champagne there for a while. Is there anything here we can take for the upcoming Bledisloe?
Report TheVis August 3, 2013 4:06 PM BST
Brumbies virtually filling the trophy with champagne is a bit of an overstatement.  I never thought they looked that comfortable in the lead.
Report ballaman68 August 3, 2013 7:14 PM BST
didn't get to see the game, how did our new signing play? Clarke could be the signing of the year for Connacht.
