I backed unders after reading some weather reports so I have some interest in the last 20 minutes, but other than that it's dull as ditchwater. Certainly not a patch on the real origin game earlier in the week.

Intensity from the RU? Imagine my disgust when watching origin then having to sit through 3 games of RU. Origin 80 mins full on action.......Union, 15 minutes full on action :-)

you could put 15 chimps in RU international shirts and the lemmings would still watch it....the people that turn up to watch RU international games doesn't mean you get quality on the pitch. I wonder why RU are constantly trying to speed the game up and stop it being a bore fest? Club level League more than matches Union and gets bigger audiences on TV, so, go figure.

My original point was that the intensity of Union is pretty low compared to that of Origin....you then derailed it, not sure what your point was either.

i think you are cracked up if you think Union is more intense than State of Origin. For a start, the action is only about 30 minutes long in Union.....when play gets going it is ok, but that is the problem, it rarely does. The hooker did 66 tackles in SOO, maybe that indicates how intense the action was.

Fantastic that a man can describe Union viewers as "lemmings", despite earlier suggesting that he doesn't like the game and yet STILL sat through three 80 minute matches!
I don't think anyone really doubts that League is a popular sport in Australia, but arguing about that is a bit of misdirection applied to take the focus away from the rest of the world, where union is generally a lot more popular. 11,000 people for a showcase event at the weekend, whereas Saracens managed 90,000 for a club match earlier on in the year. I like both codes and maybe last week my favourite game was the Origin match, despite 3 cracking union internationals, but Origin is very much an exception and that's what makes it so good. I certainly haven't felt the same way about a lot of Superleague this year. |

Also the Queensland Reds have averaged 33,000 per game this year, which is more than anyone bar Brisbane Broncos. Hardly a chasm, it's AFL that rules in Australia.

I flicked between 3 union tests, the first SA/Eng test the ball was in the air for 30 minutes, yeah really intense. My original point was about intensity. Union have the crowds for internationals as people will watch any old rubbish. The standard of Eng RL is terrible but still a better product than Union club rugby which still lags behind on viewing figures, go figure! |

as for Queensland Reds, yes they are getting decent crowds. They are in a rugby hot bed and it is well known they are giving lots of freebies out to the League fans (i have quite a lot of friends in that area). I will take the Union vs League in Aus with a pinch of salt, only one winner there and that is why League breaks the viewing records year on year, because the aussies love league.
I can only dream that the idiots in England could manage the game much better, make the game really strong in the heartlands before worrying about places where they dont care about league. I dont want this to turn really stupid. I made a comment about "intensity" which has been derailed. I really think the "intensity" is ok in Union but way too many stoppages in play. |

"would never understand"???? No because they have never played the game. Union players playing League for 80 minutes without getting constant breaks and getting hit hard constantly, well they wouldnt understand the intensity of that either.

if it was Wigan/Saints Bradford/Leeds at OT for 5 pound a pop like the Union games, then it would have no problem. Not sure why you keep harping on about the 90,000 for the freebie event, if you want to go like for like the Union struggled to sell out for their "grand final" for many many years........the 70k plus at OT trafford and the viewing figures wipe the floor with the Union counterpart.

well i would love to know how all the empty seats would be considered a sell out? I would say off the top of my head that the last 2 union GF's have looked full, before that the union fans struggled with the concept.
