No interest on here?

The drop in intensity in comparison to the three RU tests is staggering.

I backed unders after reading some weather reports so I have some interest in the last 20 minutes, but other than that it's dull as ditchwater. Certainly not a patch on the real origin game earlier in the week.

I was thinking the same TrM, a case of after the Lord Mayor's show.

Either of the State of Origin sides would have beaten England.

Intensity from the RU?  Imagine my disgust when watching origin then having to sit through 3 games of RU.  Origin 80 mins full on action.......Union, 15 minutes full on action :-)

^ that's why league is the booming world wide success it has become then i suppose.

can't wait for the next RL world cup, what a showpiece event that is.

you could put 15 chimps in RU international shirts and the lemmings would still watch it....the people that turn up to watch RU international games doesn't mean you get quality on the pitch.   I wonder why RU are constantly trying to speed the game up and stop it being a bore fest?  Club level League more than matches Union and gets bigger audiences on TV, so, go figure.

and why is RL and Origin such a rip roaring sucess in Aus, when Union fails badly.....maybe because the aussies don't pay to watch any old cr9p?
By:
northanlite
When: 18 Jun 12 16:11
i can't argue with that.

the game is certainly a "rip roaring success" in 2 australian states.
By:
der_der_73
When: 19 Jun 12 16:26
broke the viewing figures yet again this includes the AFL final, not bad for a sport that is only big in 2 states....why doesnt union do well?
By:
northanlite
When: 19 Jun 12 19:40
so your point is that the state of origin games are very popular in australia?

won't be long until league finally breaks those other "new" markets then.
By:
der_der_73
When: 20 Jun 12 10:47
My original point was that the intensity of Union is pretty low compared to that of Origin....you then derailed it, not sure what your point was either.

When: 21 Jun 12 00:43
if it makes you happy deluding yourself that league is so much more "intense" than union then you carry on.
why should you be any less delusional than those that run your great sport (and i do really like the code)
you are going to have to pull yer heads out yer @rses at some time soon tho.

i think you are cracked up if you think Union is more intense than State of Origin.  For a start, the action is only about 30 minutes long in Union.....when play gets going it is ok, but that is the problem, it rarely does.  The hooker did 66 tackles in SOO, maybe that indicates how intense the action was.

I like how you go off topic, i said the sport in Aus is doing amazingly well.  It is run superbly in Aus.  When did i say it was run well over here?  Do you actually read what i am typing?

You say you were 'disgusted' but  still managed to sit through 3 Full Union Internationals dd73.Well done.

I love RL but sat through half an hour and started flicking through the channels the match was poor. International RL has a long way to go to match Union

Fantastic that a man can describe Union viewers as "lemmings", despite earlier suggesting that he doesn't like the game and yet STILL sat through three 80 minute matches!

I don't think anyone really doubts that League is a popular sport in Australia, but arguing about that is a bit of misdirection applied to take the focus away from the rest of the world, where union is generally a lot more popular. 11,000 people for a showcase event at the weekend, whereas Saracens managed 90,000 for a club match earlier on in the year.

I like both codes and maybe last week my favourite game was the Origin match, despite 3 cracking union internationals, but Origin is very much an exception and that's what makes it so good. I certainly haven't felt the same way about a lot of Superleague this year.

Also the Queensland Reds have averaged 33,000 per game this year, which is more than anyone bar Brisbane Broncos. Hardly a chasm, it's AFL that rules in Australia.

"showcase" in who's eyes?  I like how you use the saracens match where tickets were a fiver.

I flicked between 3 union tests, the first SA/Eng test the ball was in the air for 30 minutes, yeah really intense.  My original point was about intensity.

Union have the crowds for internationals as people will watch any old rubbish.

The standard of Eng RL is terrible but still a better product than Union club rugby which still lags behind on viewing figures, go figure!
By:
der_der_73
When: 22 Jun 12 14:58
as for Queensland Reds, yes they are getting decent crowds.  They are in a rugby hot bed and it is well known they are giving lots of freebies out to the League fans (i have quite a lot of friends in that area).  I will take the Union vs League in Aus with a pinch of salt, only one winner there and that is why League breaks the viewing records year on year, because the aussies love league.

I can only dream that the idiots in England could manage the game much better, make the game really strong in the heartlands before worrying about places where they dont care about league.

I dont want this to turn really stupid.  I made a comment about "intensity" which has been derailed.  I really think the "intensity" is ok in Union but way too many stoppages in play.

what exactly do you mean by "intensity" anyway der der? is this just a phrase you've picked up from sky sports?

the rucks last weekend are a type of intensity rugby league players would never understand (or league watchers)
By:
der_der_73
When: 28 Jun 12 13:49
"would never understand"???? No because they have never played the game.  Union players playing League for 80 minutes without getting constant breaks and getting hit hard constantly, well they wouldnt understand the intensity of that either.

i see england not valuing this fixture already.  tickets are going for a fiver as well.  only way to get bums on seats in Huddersfield is to give them away for free.

if it was Wigan/Saints Bradford/Leeds at OT for 5 pound a pop like the Union games, then it would have no problem.  Not sure why you keep harping on about the 90,000 for the freebie event, if you want to go like for like the Union struggled to sell out for their "grand final" for many many years........the 70k plus at OT trafford and the viewing figures wipe the floor with the Union counterpart.
By:

How does 70k at old trafford wipe the floor with 80k at Twickenham?

Or do we have to go back into the archives to find the answer to this one?
By:
der_der_73
When: 02 Jul 12 15:49
well i would love to know how all the empty seats would be considered a sell out?  I would say off the top of my head that the last 2 union GF's have looked full, before that the union fans struggled with the concept.

My dad is bigger than yours, bored of it now, im a lover not a fighter ;-)

80k+ since 2007

I like to keep it going to see what tricky logic you will come up with next. Lots of opinion disguised as fact so far. I have no doubt that if the figures don't work it will be the intensity of the crowds next.....
By:
der_der_73
When: 02 Jul 12 15:56
and like i said, lots of empty seats but they say its sold out, the RFU are masters at putting out attendances like 25,000 or 80,000.

Bored.

seriously it is funny how many Union attendances are a round number
By:
der_der_73
When: 02 Jul 12 16:34
anyway, Union is much more intense than League, the UK club game is bigger than Super League, Aussie RL is only big in Sydney........i have learnt that now, sorry for being so naive.
