A very lenient punishment for being found guilty of biting another player, particular given his previous record.

Suprise suprise, he doesn't miss any England games, i'm really deeply shocked. Why don't the English Rugby Union dispense with these citing commitees that concern any English Squad players and and give their own punishment. Oh wait might aswell leave things as they are, it's not as if they lose any player for games do they.
Plus would love to hear what mitigating factors that got the minimum ban reduced by a futher 4 weeks, can't have been his previous good behaviour, as in other cases.

Some players are impervious though Furelli. Plenty knocking around that just keep picking up bans well into their thirties. I doubt Hartley will ever learn. He has been relatively clean for 4 years though.

It was an independent committee that passed judgement and the main problem they have is that they dont appear to have a direct view of the incident. It's difficult to give a long ban on the basis of "you probably did it didn't you, own up". IF Ferris had his finger lodged in Hartley's mouth it makes a massive difference to the extent of the crime and if they cant tell where it was they cant pass a hefty judgement.

What I am hoping is that Callum Clark gets a year or more for his crime. Clear cut and savage. No better opportunity to stamp a foot down.

Maybe a chance with Clark's ban, unless of course he is to be picked for the SA tour.

I'm not sure if you could make it a criminal case, but I would say that Hawkins has excellent grounds to sue Clark. It's happened before and in this case intent can hardly be denied.

Wasn't the minimum 12 weeks?

Hartley expressed his disappointment at the length of his suspension.

“I am disappointed by the result and I will wait for the written judgement as to how the panel came to their conclusion,” he said. “I now have to put it behind me and focus on supporting Saints in training and off the field.”

Min is 12 weeks, however it was reduced by 4 weeks for mitigation.

in mitigation....presumably he's been taught his evil ways by the other crims in this vile club.

So part of the testimony for the defence that Rowntree gave that Hartley would captain England in the near future, glad that clears it up then, a maybe future captain cannot surely have committed such an offence.
