Rolland MOM by a mile you just cant keep him out of the action
Report RugbyMan March 11, 2012 4:33 PM GMT
Rolland spends so much time explaining the laws. He gave a scrum to England for France blocking tacklers, which is a pen, then gives France a dubious pen as soon as they are in kicking range.

Suits me for France to win this, but I would France to win it, not be given it.

Report RugbyMan March 11, 2012 5:07 PM GMT
The pundits are very good at ignoring previous warnings, but then so is Rolland generally. Looked very harsh on Sharples, but if the team is on a warning then so be it.

I've seen far worse from Rolland, but he always spends so much time telling everyone about his decisions rather than playing the game. Couple of moments of nonsense from him, but he may well have been the best ref of the weekend. Can not ever remember saying that before.
Report pacficrc March 11, 2012 5:08 PM GMT
If he went out with the attitude to help make it a free flowing game he'd be a great ref.
Report RugbyMan March 11, 2012 5:10 PM GMT
All 3 pundits watch that France break at the end and say offside, but I can't see it personally. Being ahead of the ruck is no problem if you dont get involved, otherwise it would be a pen at every kick.

The player who makes the tackle gets himself onside and Davies thinks three are offside somehow, even though there are not 3 players involved!

Doesn't help refs when pundits make things up to contradict them.
Report sewter lives again March 11, 2012 5:12 PM GMT
generally the pundits although ex players dont know the laws
Report pacficrc March 11, 2012 5:19 PM GMT
that's true, then you have Brian Moore who professes to know the laws as a ref making out the ref should be wearing blue, I found it funny him trying to defend a hooker popping up, he was wrong and tried to justify it by saying he was going forward, but that's the trick - pop when going forward to force the opposition up and penalty from a ref that doesn't know what's happening

penalty count was 11 - 5
Report Injera March 11, 2012 5:30 PM GMT
France's lack of composure at setting up DG attempts against Scotland and now today is a amajor hindrance to their progress.

After 6 minutes they attempted a DG from 25-30 metres. It was laughable, both in the decision to do it and the attempt itself.

A fundamental part of the game, the DG decides many crucial matches including WC Finals!

With better set up and execution the post match dissection changes and Mr Lancaster's stock falls considerably.

Funny old game..

That's blown a right hole in my Cheltennham bank Cry

No doubt England deserved to win.  But seriously how brutal were France, the half backs were inept, there was no effort chasing and closing down.  Only increased the temp at the very end and too late.

England would have cruised it with a capable 10.

And from what I saw Harinordoquay was comfortably the best player on the park.  Mind you I was in a pub so might have missed the odd nuance.
Report RugbyMan March 11, 2012 6:01 PM GMT
I wonder how much more capable a 10 needs to be than steering his team to away victories in the 6 nations at 20 years old.
Report big_dunc March 11, 2012 6:03 PM GMT
Harry was left for dead by Tom Croft who was back to his Lions form in the loose and was imperious in the lineout.
Report itcanbedone March 11, 2012 6:04 PM GMT

Report RugbyMan March 11, 2012 6:06 PM GMT
Yep, cracking player and a massive prospect at his age.

You're a strange deluded man if you think England could have survived a poor performance from a fly-half today. It's amazing how many teams have poor performances against England, but play so well against other teams. Odd that.
Report big_dunc March 11, 2012 6:10 PM GMT

Flabergasted!

You've never played, never refereed, never coached, not involved in any capacity in any rugby club and you have never been to a 6 Nations game.

Bascially the only affinity you have for the game is through your tv set. And frankly it shows.

If you had any sort of decent rugby upbringing or immersion, your constant childish whinging about refrees would have been kicked out of you long ago!

The point is that his opinion reflects no affinity whatsoever for the realities of the pressures of playing and officiating.  It is relentlessly and unfairly critical and has morphed from opinion to dogma at this stage.  I don't like to see our game denigrated as such.

A few seasons of J3 in Connemara might recalibrate his expectation level.
