The French have a very long history of rioting.

I witnessed a riot in Toulon in 1974. It was a peaceful march, with women and children, until the police baton-charged it. Then it was insane.

Housing shortage is causing the demos in Spain. AI says..........

'Spain has a housing crisis because a severe shortage of new construction and low levels of public social housing collide with a massive surge in tourism, short-term rentals, and foreign investment.'

"a massive surge in tourism" - of the uninvited kind Cry

So many jobs rely on tourism in Spain and it contributes about 12% to their GDP, what would they do if holidaymakers went elsewhere ?

Rather amusing that our great leader was pining for the EU this week at the same time as there is massive civil unrest in both Spain and France.

Happening Europe wide, just to different levels and scales. In a nutshell, short thinking housing policies from the 80s onwards, some countries just promoting home ownership over everything else though the evidence was there that affordability was increasing, decade by decade. Throw in the loose credit era, up to 2007 and various state’s relying more and more on PRS to house its populations who couldn’t meet their own housing needs – that came even more unstuck in 2016 with the arrival of Airbnb with the property owners taking back their Lets for their own ever more lucrative short term letting needs. This would have been problematical enough but for the obsession with growth and the demand to see populations increase. We are where we are – and in Spain that’s demonstrations against a Leftish leading government.

Spain is full of half built apartments.

Next time you're there take a look around.

I know. Seen enough of them, but as I stated, the issue is now Europe wide, and it is all those factors together. Here in Ireland, while we tore down some newly built stuff after the Celtic Tgier, almost two decades later, some of that stock would have come in more than handy.

I don't know about other countries but here in the UK the main barrier to good housing is the traditional big builders.

There are only interested in building expensive high profit houses.

I'll think you'll find most experts and analysts can paint what I've described across Europe including the UK. As for the big builders and high profit housing in upmarket areas, the cost of them buying the land has to be factored in. Another mistake, and again Europe wide, letting land speculators off the hook, the issue of even taxing land speculation has only come to the fore recently.

Pray for the judgement of the Moderator who decided to remove my post from earlier today, when I quite reasonably speculated that the riots in France aren't about the conditions in schools. Or anywhere else.

The notion that the vast majority of participants filmed rioting are frustrated academic scholars is clearly absurd. I'd say a decent percentage never even went to school. Even Professor Arday was a more credible academic than these scruffy herberts and ragamuffins.

Think it started with schools, but has now been hijacked by the far left, a detail that our collective media haven't been willing to share.

France is braced for major protests on Tuesday, after organisers called for a nationwide day of action in support of students demanding more investment in education.

I’m sure burning down schools, beating up teachers, looting shops and assaulting members of the public, really is protesting against the education.

I see the BBC has decided to cover the story a bit more prominently today, now that actual students, their parents and Union bodies are scheduled to do their protest. Basically the BBC have now actually found white people to point their cameras at.

Looks like the French authorities and police also waited until they teargassed and charged the "right type" of protestors, and not the culturally-enriching type.
