There is a very small proportion of people in this country who believe in open borders,but tbh I haven't seen any of them post on here.
Most of us who would describe ourselves as left of centre are concerned about illegal immigration but don't really know how to stop it and neither does Farage,who keeps making suggestions which are essentially impractical,like the Tories'Rwanda scheme.
I agree with the sentiments expressed in the OP in general,though it is possible ( not likely ) that some victims might consider it a good idea.

I don't think that's true. A lot of them work illegally. You been to a car-wash or a vape store recently? Some are trafficked and basically made to work for their passage. I suspect the answer is not stopping benefits ( I'm not in favour of allowing people to starve to death ) though you might be able to cut them back,but putting more resources into cracking down on illegal working. Not easy and would require almost an endless stream of funding.

No one has to starve but they don't have to be given luxury hotel accommodation and benefits either. If you knew that all you would get here is basic accommodation and food in an army base or similar and no money would you come here when you know you can get far better benefits in other European countries? The vast majority will go elsewhere.

I wouldn't disagree with your suggestion about benefits,but I still think a lot would come.

there are pseudo intellectuals on both the 'old' left and the 'old' right who want to believe all of the boat travellers are not chancers, and only coming here for what they can take. ie, not illegal immigrants, but hopping on a boat and heading into the channel from France as they think they are in fear of their lives. and these people are are supposedly in fear of their lives have the gumption to cherry pick which country they want to claim asylum in.

it's a term I've used many times, high status opinion. It's a high status opinion that all these chancers are genuine refugees, and need to have their claims assessed. Rather than the criminal chancers that they actually are.

language is very important, so many people succumb to the softening of the language around so many of these aspects.

If those released are tagged, then giving the original victim a tag detector seems a decent idea, even if it was very clumsily expressed by baird.

Not sure the technology exists, and if it did then police would track em, but of course, police would not know where the victims were, as would not be on system.

But the intelligentsia will never concede that they are all illegal immigrants. Plenty of regulars on here would never admit to that, the truth.

This is the point isn't it. I'd say only the minority would publicly admit to wanting open borders as a policy. However how many would agree that they should all be detained and deported? Certainly not the previous Tory government. The previous Tory government created the industry, the incentives for the chancers to take the chance. Including big grants to NGOs facilitating the racket. As pretty much every chancer knows that they will never be forced back from where they came from.

Even if it gets to the point, several years later where their bunkum claim is rejected, we pay their legal fees to lawyers to take on our own government. Human 'rights' lawyers are obviously a major part of the racket.

Hopefully that already happens but in the UK, you can be fitted with an electronic tag without being in jail if you are given conditional bail while awaiting trial, placed on a community sentence, or subjected to immigration enforcement monitoring.

Er I've posted examples where the people are not in jail, so home visit required.

They are let out of jail without being tagged, look it up if you don't believe that to be the case.
