National Lottery/ Powerball

It doesn't seem that long ago when Camelot was replaced by a new firm that would run the National Lottery. At the time there seemed to be arguments about who would take over the running of the Lottery - with even threats of court cases. The new company taking over the running suggested they could do better which would raise more for our charities.

Now as well as running the current lottery lotteries they are now promoting an American one - Powerball. Now what benefit will this American draw be to British charities? Now being an American draw I assume the Powerball proceeds will stay in America and be of no benefit to British charities. Perhaps the Powerball company are offering a good commission on ticket sales made here in Britain that has proved very tempting?

It would be very interesting to see how the company running the lottery are performing. How are lottery and scratchcards doing compared to sales under Camelot? Are they delivering on their claims they could improve performance and do better for our charities? Their sales figures, etc could be very interesting? I know a number of people who have given up doing the National Lottery due to recent changes on how the draw is made. Powerball may interest some people and  may get some sales but may also divert some sales from the other lottery draws and reduce money for our charities.

Is this a case where companies make promises but then when in place to a certain extent fail to deliver on what they had initially said? The sale of our water companies to the private sector was supposed to improve performance. What has happened? They have made large profits. They have landed many water companies with large debts and have failed to improve the infrastructure with leaks increasing and not being repaired. The costs of rectifying this will fall on the general public. So much for the sale of the companies being good for us.

Now what about the lottery company? Now in place they can do what they want to make their profits improve. Their initial claims about improving the performance of the lotteries to benefit our charities can be set aside to a certain extent by them. Perhaps politicians should look into what is now going on there?
