Why cant they finish the investigation before the by election. How long do you need?  A great example of how nothing gets done in this country in a sensible time frame.

the parliamentary rules nerds say that the investigation will be suspended but can be resumed if he re-enters parliament.

he might end up fighting another by-election if he wins the first one, is subsequently found to have broken the rules and a recall petition gets the necessary support. if this happens then it is just farcical.
