I know where Jersey is, and it's breaking records too.

The fact you appreciate a breeze suggests it could have been
warm where you are.

We are norf of laden at the mo and was around 36 here, with
very little breeze, we will survive, but it's unusually hot.

Back to Durham at weekend and no 30s on the forecast for 2 weeks.

I always thought it was linked to population density and emergency and social services responding to the alert. So London's services need to get ready for a potential influx of call outs and admissions, but East Anglia has far fewer people so isn't a red alert. Could be wrong though.

To be fair, scientific advances may do harm. All these drugs and treatments now meaning heart disease, diabetes and even cancer can be managed or even cured.

UK life expectancy has risen nearly ten years since the summer of 76. All those elderly infirm people who would normally be dropping off quite quickly are now sticking around for decades, filling up homes and costing the country billions in care.

Which politician will be brave enough to take this on?

Report saddo June 26, 2026 1:21 PM BST

Yeah, but the UK population of under-14s was 13 million in 1976 and has dropped by a million today. In the same time the number of over-65s has gone up by over five million.

If you're talking of over-population in this country then it's clearly in that age group. We need more young people to help look after and pay for the care of the ever-increasing numbers of pensioners grimly clinging on to their last breath unfortunately.

Nasty comments from PoP about the older generation. Not unexpected from him though Sad

Many of our old people are too proud to ask for extra help unlike the workshy and the feckless who PoP defends, many of whom have never paid in to the system or done an honest days work in their life but expect to keep milking the system all the same.

My parents were born during the war years, they NEVER had anything come easy for them. When i was at primary school in the 60s family allowance was 8 bob (40p) a week for me and my brother. No doubt PoP thinks that meant we could live like royalty.

As for "jobs for life"  , you do realise that many of us don't work in the cushy public sector ?

Hundreds of flights at London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports have been delayed as the UK's air traffic control service warned disruption is expected to continue into Sunday.

More than 900 inbound and outbound flights at the two travel hubs have been delayed for up to 11 hours and dozens have been cancelled, according to tracker FlightAware, many due to thunderstorms.

NATS, the UK's air traffic control service, said adverse weather conditions meant aircraft needed to "avoid affected areas and be spaced further apart" and this would impact flights for the "remainder of Saturday and overnight".

and use as a benchmark is the UK summer of 1976.

In climate terms, UK summer of '76 was a localised blip, 1976 doesn't even register as an
unusual year in global terms.

This 30 second NASA video shows the average global temperature every month since 1880 to 2026, the visualisation in the last 5 seconds will have the tinfoil hat wearers reaching
