What happened to going round your local community and asking for casual work? I would pay minimum wage plus a bit for any young person willing to do some gardening for a month. Don't hold your breath.

Cut retirement age?
Report Cider May 28, 2026 12:45 PM BST
labour created a system where people didn't have to do anything at all until they were at least 22, and there's a massive incentive to continue that once finishing 'education'. That is deliberate, the question is why.

Half of them unemployable, their attitude to work is poor, think they can game or social media themselves to a Ferrari, lots of life lessons to be learnt by many of them, won't end well.

There is some truth in that ^ Paulybad

That's the thing, who is going to want to do a menial job after attending university. It's doesn't matter that half of them are thick as pig shiit (and don't even understand their student loan!). They've coasted through life expecting to land a laptop class job, without putting in any real work. I don't even blame them, they've been set up that way.

Unlike many on here I would guess, I have had to oversee the training of many of these bozos lol. The ones that actually get work. That have alleged accounting degrees, and know less about economics than Rachel Reeves. You end up basically doing the tutors' job.

I don’t think having lazy thick young dunces is any political parties fault,it’s a cultural thing nowadays, without being harsh it’s actual bad parenting.
Not saying No when they are young, “you can’t have that we don’t have money for that” instead they will put on the credit card, driving to school or football training, get the bus or walk it !

Btw I thought it was all immigrants who were the benefit scroungers, now they are letting the English lazy stay unemployed as they do the rotten jobs, the English don’t want. Who’d have thought ?
Report Cider May 28, 2026 1:39 PM BST
Nonsense, all of the political changes went in one direction. Dumbing down education/exams, removing discipline from the classroom, kids getting what they want, expectation of going on the three year party at 'uni', benefits for people whose kids stayed in education as adults, benefits for part timers, importing people to do menial jobs, raining the school leaving age.

I don't think you understand MALAY, not all immigrants are benefit scroungers, certainly my Mum wasn't. But the system permits immigrants to be benefit scroungers, so no surprise they are bees to the honeypot.

I tend to agree with your points cider, probably all them, I might not have put my points across correctly if you think it’s nonsense, but it’s an open forum, entitled to criticise any posts.

Cider I’ve read my post and you’re post again, we do tend to be saying same thing.
Report Cider May 28, 2026 2:05 PM BST
The disagreement perhaps is that this was deliberately cultivated, using politics. You might know, I call it salami slicing. Over a period of time, they chip, chip, chip away. In isolation, you look at a decision and potentially there is a valid argument. But add them all up over decades and we are where we are now. The crescendo of course being lockdowns and literally paying people to do nothing, and allowing the laptop class to 'work' from home.

I'm afraid, the threat of a whack from my parents and teachers did help to keep me in line.

I did hear the other day that teachers aren't even allowed to break up a fight as they aren't allowed to touch the kids. Even if it's a bully kicking the 7 bells out of a wimpy kid.

They aren't called the uni party for nothing. The Tories on the surface had a policy of limiting immigration, what they actually did was engineer the opposite.

It's easy to forget now but a large part of the narrative around Brexit was that mass immigration couldn't be limited due to EU membership. The Tory policy was to remain, and not have that control. The uni party lost the vote, and instead of using the control to do what people repeatedly voted for, they did the opposite.

The question is rhetorical as to why, but it's a good one. Definitely some people wanted to change the culture of Britain forever, that's something they can put on to their (short) list of achievements.
Report Cider May 28, 2026 3:48 PM BST
They only swung behind Brexit eventually due to getting re-elected, but they never ever actually wanted it. Including their current leader. I do believe Johnson did as it goes, but it wasn't to control immigration as it transpired.
Report saddo May 28, 2026 4:40 PM BST
Remarkably easy to do then. No wonder claims are through the roof, the system is there to be abused.
Report MrStrawMan May 28, 2026 4:43 PM BST
When the government says you can earn more working than on benefits they simply dont get it , yes they may get £40 a week more but then they are in their eyes working for a £1 an hour for a 40 hour week .
Report Cider May 28, 2026 4:46 PM BST
Over 70% of claims are awarded lcwra. about 20% lcw, and less than 10% FtW.
Report Cider May 28, 2026 4:47 PM BST
the 10%ers are probably the genuine claimants that don't know how to work the system !
Report saddo May 28, 2026 4:53 PM BST
Very sad if that's true, and it probably is.

But why would they want more immigration and more spend on benefits? Why would they think that's either good for them politically or for the country?

Report Cider May 28, 2026 6:14 PM BST
Simples, immigration and welfare inflate gdp.
Report PorcupineorPineapple May 28, 2026 6:29 PM BST
really. You think that's it?

Report Cider May 28, 2026 6:31 PM BST
Obviously. The blob are obsessed with gdp as that permits more spending. You think they would be comfortable with formal recession?
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- May 28, 2026 6:32 PM BST
I fort working gave more cash than benefits

Imagine finding out in my 60s I could have dossed around
on benefits and been better off than I am.

And that would have helped gdp,

All them patriots, down the pub, rioting for farage, boosting gdp.
