Remember he did not steal from taxpayers he stole from SNP party, 2 different things.

Surely it was Tax payers money as these were donations from Tax paying members. ?

Probably not got bail for fears he would flee the country.

Possibly flight risk. That’s a good point, I did think that myself might be reason.
Tax payers money not sure that’s a viable charge, maybe some of the SNP donators were tax dodgers.
Btw not saying they were, not at all.

Proceeds of crime act could come in here and then he’s no money, all I know is he pled guilty to embezzlement from SNP which papers reported, I know nothing about him apart from that.
Report Jumper45 May 26, 2026 11:36 AM BST
Why do I think the 400k is all they've been able to pin on him? He wouldn't be the first to play that game.

My guess is he would be a flight risk. Never mind Sturgeon, was he doing all this alone? I guess so, but we'll never know. My betting is some elements of the media have more dirt to fling, when they choose to do so.

He pled guilty which obviously help’s anybody on indictment on sentencing,I would assume that was on advice from legal representation, if he can pay back a good proportion of money he could be out in 9 months.
Not saying that’s correct but that’s how it works.
As stated previously I think it all seems a bit murky, maybe the donor was a cryptocurrency man from abroad HappyHappy

He would get 8-10 years in an English Civil Court as sentence is determined by amount obtained by fraud.

Pleading guilty might have saved a few difficult questions in court/ lighter sentance.

Sorry if I phrased that badly. In England we have Criminal Law and Civil law, cases of fraud are dealt with in the Civil courts to get your money back often in tandem with a trial in the Criminal Court for punishment of the same offence, although generally afterwards.

No chance Honest John will want and enquiry.

He was the one who appointed Murrow to CEO and is also on record denying any money was missing or there were any issues with party finances when the allegations first began to appear.

There’s other money missing.

The allegations all came about because of claims that 600k donated solely for the purpose of gaining independence that was meant to be ring fenced separately from SNP funds appeared to have disappeared.

Clearly magpie Pete hadn’t stolen all that money so they won’t want to have to answer questions about where the rest is.

Nicola Sturgeon has said she was "deceived, betrayed and lied to" by her estranged husband Peter Murrell as he embezzled hundreds of thousands of pounds from the SNP.

The former first minister told an audience at her first public appearance since Murrell pleaded guilty that she was coming to terms with being married to someone she "did not know at all".

"I have been misled, I have been lied to and I have been betrayed, and I won't be the last woman who has been betrayed by her husband.

She added that she would "probably need to sit with a therapist", saying that "this is a long-winded way of saying I am not OK".

Westminster and the wider UK media have enough to be getting going on. Former First Minister Jack McConnell now asking for a joint Westminster/Holyrood inquiry. A standalone Holyrood inquiry might be seen as presiding over a "cover up", while a Westminster one might be perceived as carrying out "a hatchet job" on the SNP.

McConnell said a joint probe should look into whether the relationship between Scotland's prosecution service – the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) – and politicians in the Scottish government had become too close.
