A Reform UK councillor who was elected last week has resigned and has been expelled from the party.

Stuart Prior was one of 53 Reform members who were elected to Essex County Council and earned a majority on the authority for Nigel Farage's party. Prior also gained a seat on Rochford District Council.

But he was accused the week before the elections of creating racist and Islamophobic posts on social media by Hope Not Hate.

The BBC attempted to contact Prior. He denied being a racist when approached by the Daily Mirror newspaper.

Stuart Prior is alleged to have described white people as "the master race" who have "larger brains".

Reform had said over several days last week the party was "looking into these posts".

A party source said earlier that Prior had resigned from both councils and "he's had his membership revoked".

A newly elected Lambeth councillor was suspended from the Green Party after she allegedly made a series of antisemitic social media posts.

Saiqa Ali, 56, was elected as one of 29 Green Party councillors in the south London borough on 7 May.

However, the Lambeth Green Party has since said Ali was suspended at the time of the election and would have to either sit as an independent councillor or join a different group.

A councillor has been "administratively suspended" by the Labour Party pending an investigation.

Keighley Central councillor Mohsin Hussain is now listed as an independent on Bradford Council's website.

At Prime Minister's Question Time on Wednesday, Keighley MP Robbie Moore urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to block Hussain from standing for re-election because of his 2014 conviction for attacking a man.

Following Moore's comments, Hussain said: "I've come out about my past in the press before. Society is about giving people second chances, and I'm proud my community have allowed me this second chance.

Update on the guy from my old neck of the woods

A newly elected Merseyside councillor has apologised for past comments in which he called the Holocaust "a hoax" and "propaganda" and has dramatically resigned from Reform UK, the party he was elected on behalf of last week.

Looks like Holocaust denial isn't enough to kick him out, but he resigned instead. Good to know what the appropriate levels are at.

Why it is that liberalists are so triggered about generic hurty words, but ambivalent about real crime, I really don't know.

Clearly it's an unsavoury and daft thing to write. That's as far as I would go, unless there are unreported offences.

I don't know what the green party person said, but my position would be the same on it if it was similar daft, unsavoury generic nonsense, too.

After the close of polls last night (Thursday, May 7), Hollington councillor Danuta Kean announced her decision to leave the Labour Party group on Hastings Borough Council and become an independent.

A former Reform UK council leader has been suspended by her party, it has been confirmed.

Jo Monk, who previously led Worcestershire County Council, has been suspended for "refusing to accept the democratic decision of the Reform UK group".

Fellow councillors removed her as group leader last month, replacing her with former Conservative MP Alan Amos.

Her son and fellow councillor, Ashley, has also been suspended for reportedly bringing the party into disrepute. Ms Monk told the BBC she would not comment until Thursday's council meeting.

When Jo Monk lost a vote among the party's councillors in April, her successor said he wanted to "be the first to thank Jo Monk for the hard work she's done", adding that they had "inherited a mess from the Conservatives".

A row erupted after the election, with Ashley Monk criticising the decision and the new leader on social media.

The ex-leader's time in office was marked by controversy, with council tax going up 9% and the authority needing £59.9m in emergency government help to avoid effective bankruptcy.

She is still formally leader of the county council itself, despite being kicked out as group leader.

No sign he's leaving yet, but one to watch. Well maybe not one to actually watch.

Stephen Mousdell, a newly elected councillor for Haydock in St Helens, features in an extensive catalogue of g** p*** videos under the alias “LachlanTaylorUK”, with videos online appearing to show him engaging in s** acts - seemingly in public.

One video shows him wearing a grey baseball cap, with his trousers down and another man performing o*** s** on him, while Cllr Mousdell keeps watch by looking over his shoulder.

Cllr Mousdell was elected last week as a councillor in the Haydock Ward winning 1,331 votes as Reform romped to victory. Nigel Farage’s party won 34 of the 48 seats available, having previously had no representation whatsoever.

A Reform UK spokesman told LBC: “While Cllr Mousdell’s lifestyle choices may not be to everyone’s taste, he has not broken the law. What consenting adults do in their private lives is their own business.
