have cancelled my tv licence ,expecting loads of threatening letters and visits at my door from the little Hitler's ,what else can they do? anyone had any shyte from em? thanks

Did mine about 3mths ago online , almost helpful and refund around a week afterwards. Almost as if they expected it .

Thinking the same, should be £9.99pm max imo. Will be interested to learn what happens after the cancellation, step-by-step if you guys have the time. I doubt they'll send the bailiffs round, but I would anticipate threatening letters from time to time.

I cancelled about 15 years ago because I haven't got a telly and it's a PITA having to keep to re-cancelling every 2 years but they won't get another penny from me. In all that time I have never had a visit. I don't know why anyone would let them in when they knock on the door though. Letting them in is bonkers if you ask me.

just watched some youtoob vids on it ,basically saying don't answer the door but if you do don't engage with them just say I don't watch live tv or I player etc .

If they are going to Cancel the licence payment for those on UB plus the Thousands stopping paying , where is the Funding going to come from
There are millions on Benefits and Last count was 2 million non Payers , I smell a Rat as in Back door funding Via TAXES If Trump happens to Win and they owe him 5 Billion , What happens then ? |

The edit in the programme was not a 'mistake' or accident as so many of the BBC staff or certain government ministers have said. It was a deliberate act to mislead, that speech could have been spliced in a million ways and yet it was the most damaging outcome that occurred.
Time to scrap the TV licence and move to a subscription model, the BBC worth saving disappeared 20 years ago. |

The simpering BBC continuity announcers get my goat when in between programmes they thank all us mugs for paying the licence fee as "all of this is only possible due to being funded by you "

Nothing happens really. The letters can go into recycling, anything to 'the occupier'. It's just made up autogenerated nonsense.
I had one visit in ten years, only answered the door as I was expecting a parcel and didn't look. they have no more rights than a Johovas Witness. No need to answer the door, definitely never let them in. If you feel like talking to them, explain that you only use netflix. |

If you watch terrestrial tv just pay up, otherwise do not watch tv or incur the wrath of licence officials turning up at your door or risking being reported by others. Just pay for what you use is my motto whether you agree or not agree to it.

I do not inconvenience the NHS or education yet I still pay taxes. What is the difference? Personally, I'd report any neighbour watching terrestrial tv without a licence or chose not to have a tv licence just because they did not agree with the political stance of the BBC. The BBC funds other programmes too eg investigative journalism, dramas, etc, most I've rarely watched. The guilty party can explain themselves to the officials.

Up to you. But in my case it's an ethical stance. If they were biased the other way then there would be mass demand to boycott them from the chattering classes, as there is with gb news.

The license fee would be better spent if it was all given to Yackety Yaxley. Yaxley has done far better investigative journalism than the beeeeeb. He's the guy who exposed their deceptive practices when they investigated him on panorama.

Not against it in theory btw,it must be simple technology to exclude a person from watching BBC and able to watch everything else(like the levels of SKY) and be allowed ITV,CH4 etc and the rest of ad TV. |

I personally know a foreigner couple who have a tv. The bloke claims that the BBC is fake news, and then states he gets his news from Youtube. This is his sole qualification for not getting a tv licence.
He also has 6-green recycling boxes, 2 rubbish trolley bins, 2 recycling trolley bins and 2 outside caddy food bins. But, he does not have a bin in his kitchen. He also rents out 3 (out of 4) rooms in his property. The property is a former council 3-bed with a loft conversion in the worst and most deprived area in Sutton. He does not work, and, he's not even 50 yrs old. He claims he's an online retail business. Yet, historical financial accounts filed showed less than £12k revenue annually. This is what he used to acquire a mortgage on his property. 1) What is the chance of him paying income tax on the rental of the rooms? 2) Does his property need 6-green recycling boxes, 2 rubbish trolley bins and 2 recycling trolley bins? A semi-detached in a non-council owned property in a much better area in Sutton only has 2 green recycling boxes, 1 rubbish trolley bin, 1 recycling trolley bin and 1 kitchen and 1 external caddy food bins. I'd not think so. He's them because they are free. But, no thought about the bin men having to do 3x more work emptying the boxes on his property. It's only a matter of time the BBC licence fee is replaced to reflect the digital age and various sources of news and entertainment. It cannot exist in its present form. |

Am open to correction but I think , without a license you can watch any normal terrestrial TV channel recorded as long as what you record is not live . So films would be fine for example . It doesnt worry me I just watch Amazon Prime .

netflix fine, catch up fine (aside from i player), anything that was broadcast live on delay fine, you tube fine as long as it's not streaming a live UK tv broadcast.

imp, anyone can rent out rooms in their own property for up to £7,500pa without declaring it. As long as no contract exists, the lenders will turn a blind eye too.
I've been renting out a room for years, but stopped a few years back for a bit of peace. Nevertheless, it was a tidy tax-free income for a while. |

The Nepalese bloke bought the property on a commercial mortgage; his online retail business is registered at the same address possibly as a ruse for hmrc. It never had more than £12k revenue according to historical tax filings.

if it's under £7.5k he doesn't have to pay tax. Probably not under but proving it is another matter. It is a genuine tax-free perk if you can handle lodgers in your own home.
As for his online business, that could possibly be discovered, but clearly keeping it under the tax allowance. |
