Schoolgirl, 12, 'punished' for wearing Union flag dress to school culture day
15 July 2025, 08:41 | Updated: 15 July 2025, 08:45

A school has apologised after a 12-year-old pupil was put into isolation for wearing a Union flag dress to ‘culture day’. Student Courtney Wright wore the sequinned union flag dress as part of the school’s celebration on Friday. But she was told her choice of clothes was ‘unacceptable’ and was hauled out of lessons and made to sit in isolation in reception until her father was able to collect her. She was also given the option of wearing a second-hand uniform.
In a letter to parents, the school said culture day was “designed to promote inclusion, understanding, and appreciation of different backgrounds, traditions and heritages”.

Mr Field added: “It’s the school who have made it political and it went against everything the event was being held for.

“All the kids there are British in my eyes, I like to think I’m a tolerant person but this was just not right.”

Mr Field said another mum at the school told him her son was banned for wearing a farmer’s outfit.

A spokesman for Stowe Valley Trust said: “At Bilton School, we are proud of the diversity of our students and the rich heritage they bring to our community. We are committed to fostering an environment where every pupil feels respected, valued, and included.

“On Friday 11th July, an incident occurred during our Culture Celebration Day that caused considerable upset to one of our pupils, her family, and members of the wider community.

“We deeply regret the distress this has caused and offer our sincere and unreserved apologies.

“We have since spoken directly with the pupil and her family to listen to their concerns and reflect on how this could have been handled better.

“We are committed to learning from this experience and ensuring that every student feels recognised and supported when expressing pride in their heritage.

“As a school, we are reviewing our policies and strengthening staff training to ensure our practices reflect our values of inclusion, respect, and understanding for all.”

Another country and culture, and the 'teacher' who decided to take this action would now be contemplating their alternative career.

It sounds like more members of staff were involved than just one teacher.

The head should have been aware that pupils were being sent home it wasn’t just one child.

This “apology “ from the school doesn’t actually admit they they totally fk up. Still time for a six week holiday for the head earning a 6 figure salary and gold plated pension all paid for by future taxpayers.

Who can forget their pearl clutching over this nonsense.

The late Queen's lady-in-waiting Lady Susan Hussey has apologised and resigned after she repeatedly asked a black British charity boss where she was "really" from.

Ngozi Fulani, a charity founder, was questioned about her background at the charity event at the palace on Tuesday.

Ms Fulani, said she was "totally stunned" by Prince William's godmother's comments.

The palace described the remarks as "unacceptable and deeply regrettable".

A spokesperson for Prince William said "racism has no place in our society".

"The comments were unacceptable, and it is right that the individual has stepped aside with immediate effect," they said.

Lady Hussey, 83, was a close confidante of the late Queen and accompanied her at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh last year.

I think we should all calm down and look at this in "context".
Let's consider if a little boy went to school in a union jack dress:
Do you seriously think the teachers would bat an eyelid if this happened.  And, even if any of them thought there was anything wrong with this, they would keep quite about it because they all have to pretend to be inclusive and don't want to be labelled "lgbtq+ phobic".  So they all play silly buggers because, at heart, our school teachers are just a bunch of ****.

Cosplaying as Ginger Spice in a glitter union jack dress is more the culturally appropriated halloween than "show your country's traditional clothing" imo and hence a bit of a failed assignment to begin with.

Union Jack dress is iconic, even if

Oh I agree. Especially the wokies will be glad that their hidden plot succeeded. Getting even anti-wokes to share a speech world-wide that strongly invokes diversity being a strength and that tells the whole world how accommodating and welcoming the British are to cultures from all over.
