I don't agree with lfc about Vennells being innocent but there is a sort of point in his posts.
It sounds to me as though there were a number of people as guilty as her,other executives,lawyers,PR people,some employed by Fujitsu,possibly some politicians of all parties that have been in govt in the last 25 years. There is a danger that Vennells becomes the scapegoat for the lot of them.

If there is no detriment to them, it will give further incentive for people at the top to put profits / reputation of a business above all else and hope it never comes to light... if what you say happens they don't need to worry as the government will pick up the tab. The emails prove the PO and she was aware of various things despite giving assurances to MPs that they didn't happen.

If i was offered £2m compensation or 1.5m Comp and they go to jail for 5 years, i'd choose the latter

I suspect Vennels was the perfect person in the position for the people who put her there. Either didn't have a clue or was that blindly loyal and institutionalised to the Post Office. I think she stated her main aim was to stop the Post Office costing the government as much money / make it more profitable, this definitely wouldn't have been helped if 100's of wrongful convictions were paid compensation. On top of that I think the accounting teams believed that the missing money went back into the Post Office profits.

A lot of stuff may have been swept under the carpet previously, but when you walk in a room and the carpet is bulging and about 5 foot higher then the rest of the floor, then there is  no excuse as CEO to not look under it and finally clean the house.

Vennells knows when to forget and when to remember.

She's complicit, don't feel sorry for her.

A lot of ladies in top jobs causing havoc these days, they seem to fare no better than the men used to.
