Just rewatching The Wire.

Tonight is Gid Coe on 6music, a single malt and reading Frankenstein. Will make a point of watching Only Connect tomorrow, but my tv viewing now tends to be cherry picking some programmes and watching them specifically. Probably missing out on some gems, but enjoying the radio/book combo right now.

Foinaven , start the Spenser series at the beginning , cost near nothing from the likes of Allibris, Abe , WOB , for me probably his best series . He is a bit of a dinosaur in his views but if you see what might be a quote in there ,google it up and you get surprising hidden gems.

Just finished watching Rogue Trader about the collapse of Barings Bank.....fascinating how one person could get away with what Leeson did.

I see the Godwulf Manuscript is the first of 50. How on earth did he manage to write so much? I have some other stuff to finish off then I will have a look. Thanks.

Watching the second series of White Lotus, could well be the best thing on TV this year.
|
|
By:
Have them to watch so that is good to know. Got the Christmas TV guide today and there is a 1987 BBC series gonna air with Robbie Coltrane, Richard Wilson and Emma Thompson to name but a few in. Tutti Frutti. Didn't catch it the first time round but gets good reviews and am looking forward to it. Starts Boxing Day.
|
|
By:
On BBC4 that is.
|
|
By:
Tutti Frutti was very popular first time around but I don't know how well it will have aged.
|
|
By:
Watching a re-run of Nigella's Cook, Eat, Repeat from last Christmas. She turns the oven on for 50 minutes!

We've been re watching happy Valley.
It's even better second time. New series in new year, hmmm? |
|
By:
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to season 3 of Happy Valley too. I think it's head and shoulders above every cop drama including Line of Duty,
|

Started bingeing on The White Lotus that was mentioned earlier in the thread over the break, after seeing Ally Ross has been raving about it. Right up my street, and not at all what you'd expect, if not reading up on it before watching, so I won't spoil it. Didn't think this type of output would still be produced...

The Detectorists was good the other night.
Started watching Welcome to Wrexham. An hour in and they've already sacked the manager and half the playing staff. I'm enjoying the input of the long suffering fans. Come on Wrecsam!!! |
|
By:
They will be favourite to win the play offs
|
|
By:
Prince Andrew the Musical tonight might be entertaining. Will they go as far as calling him a peado

|
By:
Was disappointed with the Detectorists special tother night. I love the show, which is arguably the best sitcom Auntie has produced in the last 10 years. Just felt the special lacked some of the warmth and humour. Admittedly, it would not be the first special to lag behind the original.

Virgin media.. Channels - Crime and investigation - First 48...
7+ series on there with 15+ episodes each.. about: Black guy shoots and kills 1+ other black guy(s), police take statements and interview suspects and then lock the guilty black guy up for life without the possibility of parole.. (in a nutshell) Fascinating. |
|
By:
Have I overstepped any lines there^^

So how do you think Happy Valley will conclude next week?
Will Tommy kill Catherine? Will Catherine kill Tommy? Will Neil turn out to be Tommy's dad? Will we find out why that kid won't take her anorak off? What shocks might we be in for? |

The Watcher on Netflix..

Netflix French crime drama "Black Butterflies" a pleasant change from the rubbish crime drama generally served up British TV stations these days.
It's probably not suitable viewing for the Progressive Left though, because the production managed to get green-lighted without any number of Black/M*sl*m/Homosexual and/or Trans characters fabricated and parachuted in to make up the quotas. The BBC's recent crime drama series "The Gold" was a particular offender in the 'quota' department with all sorts of absurd characters invented (in some cases unintentionally hilariously) to make the numbers look good. |

crikey, is there a parallel world where alun just isn't such a victim in every single part of his life?

Head's up, season 3 of The White Lotus debuts tomorrow. You usually get diminishing returns on stuff that was this good, so hopefully the quality stands up to 1&2 on this occasion. I see Brit girl Aimee from sex education is in it, she stood out on sex education show as extremely charismatic (even tho her part was quite small), so that is promising. Even the theme tunes for 1&2 are fukking awesome, imho.

Got white lotus on my list but never get round to starting it.
Still in my book/radio phase and just simply turning the telly off unless there's something I really want to watch on. Finished 2 books off today, and had Absolute 90's Forgotten 90's show on so happy with that combo. Even Only Connect has really dropped its quality in the last year or so, so my appointment viewing is dropping fast. My only real tv binge is friday nights where it's TOTP through to WILTY, then either HIGNFY, Cats does countdown or gogglebox and then maybe Graham Norton. But other than that I'm not sure I'd miss it if we someone came and took the box away. |
|
By:
Pretty much nothing worth viewing on broadcast tv these days. 24 Hours in police custody still excellent. Gogglebox used to be great but it's very heavily scripted these days.
I feel like TWL has a unique style of its own, but I wouldn't want to spoil it. Some aspects are inarguably high quality, the cinematography and soundtrack alone are delicious imho, for both series. |
|
By:
Yeah, gogglebox is definitely bronze of the 3 options. Needs some fresh blood as they've lost a few and the newer recruits are a bit meh. There's that family - middle class, mum and dad middle aged, and 2 lads in (prob) early 20's - that someone really needs to illustrate just what they add to the show. Just a waste of time. It's a passable hour of telly, but not much more.

Re runs of Old Shows the Sweeney Kojak Etc are better than a lot that is on

I am very much looking forward to season 3 of 'White Lotus' but I'm a binge watcher so I'll have to wait until the end of April to watch it.
Currently ploughing my way through the very excellent 'The Night of'. Again. |
|
By:
S3E1 was a tad meh. To be expected as anticipated. The opening credits definitely a step back from the sublime 1&2. Aimee was the stand out for me actually, but it lacked the dark humour of the predecessors. Hopefully it was just setting the scene for better things.
