Have you seen a show called saving people at sea? They had a base jumper on there who hit a cliff three times on his way down and virtually snapped his own leg off. I remember a very interesting documentary on base jumping about 10 years ago, on a sky channel that no longer exists (can't remember the name).
Well the documentary cut to to some wise man: "imagine these two jars on the table. This one represents your experience and is empty. This one over hear represents your luck and it is full.
