So we will.  On your say so. Laugh
The Gurkhas, like the rest of (still in many cases unrecognised ) Commonwealth troops, deserve respect, for fighting for the King and Country they recognised.  Sadly, they have found out what that means in real terms - afterwards - just like everyone else before them, and since.  But then it was always thus.  QE1 left all her injured, infected, ill, burned, maimed and otherwise desperately in need of assistance, Armada defeating hero sailors to languish and die in the misery and squalor of lower decks in 1588.  Wellington despised his troops calling them the scum of the earth.  I don't suppose much has changed.  Great guys when they set out, forgotten immediately afterwards.

I've signed it. Thanks. Hope members can sign it, I believe it's now day 11 of the hunger strike, and another 19,000 signatures to get a   debate in parliament. In short, the Gurkhas are fighting for equal pension rights for pre 1997 ex-Gurkhas. They were being discharged at £47 a month after at least 15 years minimum service, some as low as £20 a month. It's a joke. Every signature counts, thanks you

This is a disgrace and needs to be addressed.
Been an ongoing issue for years
Joanna Lumley has long been in their corner and joined them in their protest.

The Nepalese PM down on his knees begging the UK for some vaccines a couple of months ago, none given, you think they care?
Report wellinformed August 18, 2021 4:13 PM BST
@lapsy pa - separate issue. They rather Gurkha recruitment ended. However, Gurkha recruitment is an expandable army that would be big blow to UK forces. Anyway, 8500 signatures to go, come one Betfair members..

As of 6th July 63 approx ex British Gurkhas died of covid in Nepal, it is a different issue granted but the not giving even a token amount for the very vulnerable speaks volumes.
Good luck with the petition,a hunger strike is a last resort and shows the depth of feeling.

"even a token amount for the very vulnerable speaks volumes" - do you think the government operates in this space? They only want political gains and maintain power.

And thanks for your support. Just 3000 to go, if anyone hasn't signed the petition, sign it right now. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/594155

Yes, I see that the government have agreed to talks over their pensions.
Not before time and hopefully the Gurkhas will get full pension rights.

Thanks LH,very nice from you,i agreed in the main with your 1st post in the thread,it was subsequently rubbished in the next post but the fact that this government seem to currently be trying to rectify it is to their credit(though caught by the balls can be argued)Still it seems to be happening which is good.
The current situation with Afganistan is probably the same,no doubt 'helpers' were promised the earth and get zilch, if i threw in 'use and abuse' would it be fair/true? There is a God given right to fookall these days and thankfully times moved on.
