That would appear to be what you do bucktooth.

Al the terrible lies Trump tells, his boasts of using his fame and power to abuse women, his odious racism and utter incompetence and yet you feel obliged to defend him.

Why are you such a passionate defender of the biggest bozo in the Northern hemisphere?

You are not a Putin plant are you?

Lies are lies, tim. You should know, you promote enough of them. I didn’t see a better justification of them from you than that banning them may have been counterproductive. The laptop story is so bad, the WSJ debunked its own opinion piece by pointing out there was no evidence Biden had ever had any involvement in the business deal discussed.

I’m guessing you’ll provide really good supporting evidence though, just after you share your detailed analysis of how it would have been possible for Kamala Harris to win the popular vote without being on the ballot.

Yeah, I’m terrified by your forensic exposition of the devastating story that err, no, I’ve no idea what you mean. Neither do you, Probably.

Can we at least agree that there was a laptop? I can see this being a bit of a slow one, if not.

And again from the Washington Post

It may be that more and more journalists are deciding that forthrightly reckoning with all the lies is a risk they have to take. In short, all of Trump’s relentless lying is, at least to some degree, slowly nudging the press into a more illuminating posture.
None of this necessarily means Trump will lose reelection. He could go on to win, especially via cheating. But it’s hard to see how all the lying and zone-flooding is helping him at this point. And if he loses, we might look back and conclude that the real story all along was that he drowned himself in it.

Everyone lies, Foinavon. That doesn’t mean that everyone lies equally. You need to do some looking to see how much lying people do. It’s not always easy but fortunately there are people who do bits of it for you. Try Daniel Dale.

trumps lies, however, are dictators lies. He uses them to bully subordinates, who know what he is saying is untrue and have to degrade themselves to explain his words. He then sometimes undermines them. eg the bleach incident where they tried to explain his comments as being serious but misunderstood and then he screamed that he wasn't serious at all and being sarcastic. He is an utterly disgusting human being.

I agree that a politician who never lies is rare.
However Trump really is different gravy.
I don’t think Wikipedia has ever had a special page about a politician’s lies before but Trump is clearly a record breaker.

So from Wikipedia:
Fact-checkers from The Washington Post[1] (top, monthly) and from the Toronto Star[2] and CNN[3] (bottom, weekly) compiled data on "false or misleading claims," and "false claims," respectively. The peaks in late 2018 correspond to the midterm elections, in late 2019 to his impeachment inquiry, and in late 2020 to the presidential election.

Donald Trump has made many false or misleading statements, including thousands during his presidency.[4] Commentators and fact-checkers have described this as "unprecedented" in American politics,[5][6][7][8] and the consistency of these falsehoods has become a distinctive part of both his business and political identity.[9] Trump is known to have made controversial statements and subsequently denied having done so,[10][11] and by June 2019, many news organizations had started describing some of his falsehoods as lies.[12] The Washington Post said his frequent repetition of false claims amounts to a campaign based on disinformation.[13] According to writer and journalist Nancy LeTourneau, the debasing of veracity is a tactic.[14] By August 27, 2020, The Washington Post's Fact Checker database had counted 22,247 false or misleading statements.[1]

22,247 lies. That is virtually a whopper every time he cracks open his orange cake hole and spouts bilge.

Do you believe that what you read in Wikipedia is neutral? or the other media outlets you quoted? I don't doubt that Trump has told plenty of whoppers, all politicians do, it goes with the territory.

I repeat

Wiki is mostly pretty factual. I certainly don’t find even minor errors on it very often for stuff I’m expert in.

Do you perceive Trump as being from a different category in terms of mendacity to the average politician? Like I say, there are people who track this stuff. They might have their own biases, so you’d be wise to cross check some things. Did you try Daniel Dale?

Have you read what Trump said and the context in which it was said rather than just watch an edited clip. Read it and make up your own mind.

Depends on the context, slogger. Many things are factual, particularly scientific subjects but when it comes to more nuanced subjects where opinions may differ, then I'm not so convinced as you are relying on the personal integrity of contributors and editorial staff.

Yes I’ve seen it and knew all along he was just being catastrophically stupid and musing out loud, not actually offering advice, as he did, for example, with hydroxychloroquine.

He did then very clearly lie about the context himself in saying he was being sarcastic. No plausible defence of him in those ground (absurd though they would be in any case - who’s sarcastic about injecting poisons in a press conference?) could be sustained after watching the footage.

Oh for sure. There’s no single unbiased source and people need to make their own minds up. There’s plenty of evidence out there, though.

I know all politicians lie but I would put Trump in a different category to most.

Foinavon, that you can't grasp the egregious ignorance and vanity of the man doesn't say much for your judgement. trump seriously thought that he had found an avenue of research that the millions of more qualified scientists hadn't considered.

Yes, I put up the article for Dave too. As for Wiki, I too have a scientific background and some specialisations so can check what is written in certain areas and am generally satisfied with them. I have read however of people being dissatisfied with some biographical data about themselves and having to keep correcting it as even their personal input is overwritten. Politics is also subject to journalistic bias and flavour of the month as we see in certain aspects of history these days. It's important to try and keep an open mind.

Yeah, I've also read about famous people trying to oppress information on their own wikipedia pages, or them adding false information to make themselves look better.

I believe defamatory information about a person will only be allowed to persist on wikipedia if it's adequately sourced from a reputable source.

They ain't just letting anyone write on Rafael Nadal's wiki that he drains the blood of lil baby kittens and drinks it to stay young and healthy, improving his longevity at the top of the sport. Rafa won't have to keep correcting that himself over and over again.
By:
edy

Disclaimer: I do not have a reason to believe that Rafael Nadal does indeed drink the blood of baby kittens.
By:

and that the reputable source puts up total bogus information and that it then finds its way onto wikipedia as undeniable fact is more a theoretical chance than anything else imo.
