Michelle O’Neill has said Sinn Fein is hoping to unseat “an architect of Brexit” - DUP deputy leader Nigel Dodds - as it aims to increase its number of MPs from seven to eight. As the Press Association reports, the Sinn Fein vice president said the December 12 general election will be about maximising the return of pro-Remain candidates.
Standing alongside the party’s North Belfast candidate John Finucane, O’Neill said:
"We will stand in our seven constituencies in which we currently hold seats and we will stand in North Belfast to win that seat.
We believe there is a real opportunity in North Belfast to oust someone who has been architect of Brexit, someone who has actively worked against the interests of people who live here on this island, and John Finucane can provide local representation but also will reflect Ireland’s interests in all of this mess."
Dodds had a majority of 2,081 over Sinn Fein in 2017. But at that election Dodds did not face a challenge from the Ulster Unionist party, which agreed to give the DUP a clear run to maximise the unionist vote. But this time the UUP intends to put up candidates in all 18 of Northern Ireland’s constituency because it does not want to be seen to endorse the DUP’s Brexit stance.

Neutral in regards Sinn Feins Westminister stance,at least they are consistent,however with a general election in particular rather than local or NI, why don't they get behind the SDLP?

Finucane has little chance of unseating Dodds this time. in effect, I make Dodds a 1/9 shot.

Fair enough kl, i was under the impression that many on the ground,quietly,unimpressed with his position, and Arlene's stance.
John Finucane is popular in the area i could see the seat being taken by him, Sinn Fein are excellent at getting there voters out and with it being held in December alot of Dodds older supporters may not get out to vote will be alot closer than you think.
Let’s hope the good people of N Ireland and north Belfast remember the disgraceful behaviour of the republican Sinn Fein in helping the changes in law over abortion , against the wishes of their people ( and indeed the Protestant people )

Also , have we had anyone charged and convicted as yet for that young female reporter killed earlier this year by the IRA

Regarding who people were supporting last Saturday it was interesting to see the reaction nationwide . Those interviewed in Wales were supporting South Africa , those interviewed in Scotland were supporting South Africa , those interviewed in Northern Ireland were supporting England . Ponder on that .

In the south i was supporting England, in part because my son is English and i had a good life there, but also because the Saffer brand of rugby is brutal.

Re rugby , Ireland were beaten by Japan , and are about 5 players away from being top class. Scotland are not as good as Ireland on an average day for both. Wales are not as good as England , were lucky against France who played with 14 for most of the match . Wales vs South Africa was one of the worst rugby matches any of us have seen , England ( and the media ) obviously saw that match and concluded they only had to turn out to win the World Cup .

There isn't that many people play rugby in Scotland, it's very much a minority sport. They probably punch above their weight considering this, at International level.
I come from the west of Scotland and don't know anybody who has ever taken part in an official Rugby match, even school or amateur, never mind professional.
Even in pubs very few watch it or even know the rules.

National team poor just now, I'd say there are more people playing presently than ever too.
It's difficult to put a finger on it's decline, as the top English teams in the past had loads of Scots.
Strachan got pillored for talking about genes recently. I'm not sure he was wrong, the black players in English, Dutch, French, Belgium football have had a positive impact on the national team over the years, their athleticism is a big asset.
There is not a lot of black people in Scotland, don't know why, maybe the national team miss their natural power and pace.
Dissident republicans do not have the support of the community, they should disband immediately,destroy their weapons and participate in peaceful processes to achieve their political aims.

In 1971 Belfast, 14 nationalists were interned without trial - Francie McGuigan and Liam Shannon amongst them. They claim their British Army captors placed hoods on their heads and beat and tortured them for the following seven days. The `Hooden Men" suffered long-term psychological damage and they are still seeking justice today.
