"You only need a car if you're planning to bury a body out in the desert."

but agree, you don't really need a car, so easy to get around
taxi and 'The Deuce' buses which are running all the time up and down the strip about every 10 mins.

been twice in last 2 yrs and going again end of Oct.
stayed at TI, mid-price hotel and great location nr middle of strip.

all the casinos in the big hotels worth a vist,
Wynn, Caesars Palace, Venetian, Bellagio, Rio  etc.

Downtown and Fremont Street - the original part of Las Vegas - worth a vist.  But stay on the main part wouldn't wander off down there.

if you want a bit of time away from the lights and the casinos, a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon is pretty amazing, and you get to see the Hoover Dam too.

there is so much to do and see, Id go to 1 or 2 shows as well.

a couple of places already mention on here, voodoo lounge in rio is worth a drink, also great for one of the best views of Vegas at night.

spearmint rhino if you want to see why they call it Sin City.
Mind you, clubbing in Vegas is not cheap. But absolutely fantastic place.

I can't wait to go back.

All you can eat buffet at wynns is highly recommended
Report Hound-Dog-2 July 24, 2012 12:58 PM BST
The new CityCentre area - where the Aria Hotel is & the Vdara -
stunning place to look at but some people don't like it because it's
brand new and modern, and lacks atmosphere, and doesn't fit in with the rest of the strip.

But I liked it, something different again, thought it was a great place.

Wynn & Encore fantastic hotels and where a lot of the footballers stay -
Rooney was at the Wynn recently.

Palazzo Hotel and Casino one of my favourites.

So many places to eat, from cheap and cheerful, to top class and the fantastic buffets.

Thank you very much for the replies guys! So far i reckon most of the ideas on here seem brilliant plus i think dune buggy racing, shooting range, day out driving super cars are some of the things i'm going to do!

You guys who have been recently, do you book the whole package as one? Looked on virgin where you can do the package holiday. Any of you guys know where to get good deals?

Report TELL DEL July 27, 2012 7:52 PM BST
Been twice and package deal with Virgin both times, you've got more protection.
Also a lot of hotels charge a resort tax about 22 dollars a night,
this should be included with a package deal, but booking seperate
you need to be aware this is an extra charged on arrival.
So for 7 nights about £100+ extra  , so a cheap deal might not be so cheap.

Never had a problem with Virgin and would def go with them again,
you can book everything in advance with them, shuttle bus return from airport to hotel, Grand Canyon trip, etc.. There is a Virgin Rep in Vegas and very easy to contact them if you need any help.

We fly from Gatwick, stay at an airport hotel overnight,
you can check-in the afternoon before, Hilton Hotel is attached to South Terminal and we stay there, have a meal and a few drinks in the evening, just walk into the airport next morning and have breakfast, no traffic problems or rush to the airport on the morning, much more relaxing....and then 10 hour flight to Sin City !
Report Jimmy_McNulty July 28, 2012 9:40 AM BST
Cheers for the info, I am closer to Manchester airport than Gatwick and it is slightly cheaper. circus circus, MGM, tropicana las vegas, stratosphere, just a few to name. Do you recommend any of these? or any other?

Report TELL DEL July 28, 2012 11:02 AM BST
^ a good website to look at for hotel reviews is Trip Advisor,
look at the ones your interested in and take the reviews on balance.

From the hotels you mentioned, personally I'd avoid Circus Circus and Stratosphere,
both cheaper hotels on the strip, but somewhat isolated at the north end,
and bit of a rough area around there.

(Stratosphere Tower worth a visit with those insanity rides at the top,
or you can jump off - it's a controlled cable leap,
your going down about 47mph and takes 15 seconds to hit the ground.  There is also a revolving restaurant,
when you've had your meal you should have done a complete turn....
or if you've had a bit too much to drink feels like 10 turns !)

MGM Grand is right on the strip but at the south end near the airport -
with the lions den in the hotel lobby.  It's a fun place
but I'd rather be near the middle of the strip.

You don't have to pay top prices, and really you only want a clean room to sleep
because how much time are you actually in your room.
Treasure Island suits us fine, great location on the strip, mid-price range,
next to The Mirage, and close to Bellagio and Caesar's Palace,
and just over the road from Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn.

Some others might give you more suggestions on here, but worth looking at trip advisor also for recent reviews.
Report Jimmy_McNulty July 28, 2012 12:20 PM BST
Appreciate the info and I will check out trip advisor.  Can't say I have come across the treasure island hotel when looking through virgin.  I believe the flamingo and paris are located midway on the strip.
Report TELL DEL July 28, 2012 1:01 PM BST
Yep, Flamingo and Paris both about midway on the strip,
on the other side to Bellagio and Caesars, and probably about halfway between
MGM and Treasure Island.

We stayed at TI twice and will be going back there again next time.
It's not like the Wynn or anything top class, but it's mid-price,
and great location on the strip.

Don't have to pay top prices, but if you go below mid-prices
cheaper hotels tend to be off the strip or bad location on the strip.
