Your button raise looks like a steal - he is highly likely to be defending with a weak ace, a KT/QJ type hand or mid range pp.

Its a snap call for me, and if running into QQ or better, then so be it!
Report Ovalman. April 21, 2012 3:24 PM BST
How aggressive has he been?

Against a rock it's an instant fold while against a LAG it's an instant call.

Many players will under re-raise low with AA, KK and QQ so you might be able to rule those out.

Without any further info you're either up against an under pair or coinflipping AKo, KQs etc.

I'm also raising less pre (1650 to 2100) and widening my starting range. With the ante involved you can't just wait for the blinds every circuit.
Report chipfire227 April 21, 2012 3:30 PM BST
His shove suggests he's happy to take the pot down there and then without seeing a flop. AK or 10-10 most likely hands imho.
Report Dooberama April 21, 2012 5:09 PM BST
If this is a genuine theory question.

Your bet sizing is horrific, anything above 2.5 x bb is too much.  Snap him off, you have JJ on the button and he is on the big blind.  Please don't post the beat.

No idea what a cashing zone is if we are 500 off the money.

I think Doobs is trying his best to be nice (he struggles to do that) 'cos you're an old regular' forumite. You have posted drivel. Non regulars would get abuse.

call for me too
Report WhatD'YouThinkOfThoseApplles April 21, 2012 8:30 PM BST
been away for a curry and going to finish the post here

Doobs, tourny is a turbo, 5 minute blinds so normal raises no good, plus, i wanted one of the blinds to think i was stealing with a plan to call a shove from one of them, but i was willing to fold if it went from my raise, small blind re-raises, big blind re-re-reraise/shoves (i'm not that fond of JJ if that happens)

tourny paid top 500 or so, there was 1000 players left and i wanted a stack to use to try and go deep

anyway, here is the full hand :

so, i had to fade 3 outs, and he managed to hit 2 of them

and as for the non regs getting abuse Charly, how many actual poker play threads do we get on this forum these days? the place has gone to shiit since i came here in 2003 (while i was in Iraq), the highlights for me are reading Doobs's 2012 thread and imagining how little hair chipfire has left since he took on the unofficial official forumites helpline job

anyway, story of most of my poker career, i got it in good and lost, bloooody stupid game init

If you want them to think you are stealing, why don't you deploy a standard button raise when antes in play ie 2.5x, that has the obvious advantage of losing you the minimum when you actually are stealing (which should be quite often).

Lots of reasons why it's gone to shiit, you shouldn't blame yourselfWink

and to be honest I'm probably just a grump. I was always hacked off that I never got to a 'Duffs homie'
Report charwell. April 25, 2012 4:05 PM BST
First thing I see is it's a $4 crapshoot. BB unlikely to make all in raise with premium hand and you have all other hands beat (small pair or Ace rag is a nigh on certainty).

So a snap call 100% of the time. Not a difficult question really.

I too am intrigued by a 'cash zone' a mere 500 places from the payouts!!

In all tourneys it pays to amass a big stack and take a risk getting there. Min cash outs are not the objective - go for gold and if u cash all well and good.Playing for 4 hours for a $11 payout simply isn't worth the effort.

i think i have to add a few things:

1) in the cashing zone!!!!! well, i was about 150 from 1000 with 500 getting paid, hope that explains my getting towards middle age poker lingo problems

2) i was in the army for 14 years and while in Iraq we had some limited internet access and i discovered what used to be a good little poker forum, with plenty of poker theory and hands being discussed, along with more mundane things such as humour, PC problems, and how good the crypto software was

3) i went to nearly all the duffs games as i was posted about 15 miles from his house when the first few were held, so for me it was a jump in the car and off we go, when they got bigger later i used to jump in the car and travel down from my home in Doncaster.

4) i was only folding JJ there to SB BB re-raises/shoves, and then, in this type of game, even that is a maybe.

5) i def wanted a big stack to have a run at the FT, but thats normal as i dont play to place unless its a satalite jobber.

anyway, if nothing else, we have maybe had a very small amount of poker discussed in this thread, perhaps i can find another "happens every day, get over your self" hand and post it on another day

pokers, got to love it

Mick
