Just weeks after the poker world were deeply saddened by the horrible news of Thor Hansen being diagnosed with terminal cancer they have been hit again by the sudden death of Russian pro Nikolay Evdakov.
The news came from his wife who posted on the CGM.ru poker forum that her husband had founded. The message said, “On the night of February 6, Nikolay Evdakov died – a loving father and an exemplary family man, a friend of the community of poker enthusiasts, an outstanding professional player and the owner of CGM.ru. Generous, but ambitious, Nicholas won the hearts of people with kindness and sympathy, being open-hearted, he was ready to respond to the call of any of his friends and acquaintances.”
Evdakov was one of Russia’s top poker professionals having won more than $1,100,000 in live tournaments across the globe. He was already a respected figure in the poker community before he had an amazing World Series of Poker back in 2008 that saw him make it to the money in no fewer than 10 WSOP events.
He had some great results at the felt including two six-figures scores. His largest cash came this year when he finished seventh in the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Heads-Up Championship at the WSOP, the tournament Jake Cody went on to win, which netted him $138,852. His other six-figures cash came in June 2010 when he came fourth in the $10,000 Seven-Card Stud World Championship, again at the WSOP.
Since the news became public a number of players and members of the poker community have come forward to offer their condolences to the family and friends Evdakov has left behind. Renowned tournament director Matt Savage tweeted, “RIP Nikolay Evdakov, got to know him last year @LAPC where he won two events. Seemed like a great guy!”

some young lad Jack Wilcox from two plus two died recently too in a motorbike accident in thailand. Early 20s i guess. Very sad. rip

Tragically, Jack passed away after a motorbiking accident in Thailand on the 6th February 2012. When I last spoke to Jack he said he was happy & enjoying life, and in all my experiences with Jack he's been nothing less than a genuine, friendly and happy guy. He gave so much to the online poker community through his frequent contributions to TwoPlusTwo and through his coaching endeavours to help others improve at the game which he loved. A truly kind & sincere person, he'll be sorely missed by us all, and my thoughts go out to his family and loved ones. RIP Jack.
Jack Wilcox was key to the success of iPokerVIP Coaching, and the materials he produced brought enjoyment to thousands of fellow players.
When I recently asked Jack for a few more pictures of himself for the site, he sent me 3 pictures: 1 of him in swim trunks on a beautiful Thai island, 1 of him white water rafting with friends & 1 of him and a friend skiing. I feel like that alone says a lot about Jack, his happiness and his attitude toward life.
Jack “Hoodlincs” Wilcox is a professional online poker player from the UK. He began playing poker in Jan2009 at NL25 6max and moved through the stakes that year to NL400 in June and was taking shots at NL1k by October 2009.
Jack graduated from University in 2010 whilst still playing online poker, and began playing 6-max rush when it was introduced on FTP.
After Black Friday, Jack moved his action on to the Euro networks with iPokerVIP and intensified his involvement in coaching players, where he’s now enjoying new found success coaching players right up to the Mid-stakes. Jack knows in depth about the common mistakes and leaks made by even successful players up to the mid-stakes, and is able to articulate the concepts he teaches very well
