I arrived in Manchester at 3:30 this afternoon having spent two and half hours hours on a train next to a crying toddler and a carriage that smelt like a urinal. Having been a student in Manchester I know it quite well so I walked to the Midland hotel from the station. I was greeted by the lovely people from Ongame and Living it Loving It before retiring to my suite. Kunkuwap declined my invite for dinner as he has gone all "new age" and healthy where as I like cheap and cheerful. So I headed to the best Chinese in UK (Yang Sing in China Town) and tucked into an amazing meal for one whilst he went posh and ate at the Lowry (too expensive on my salary!) which was apparently crap.
I headed back with mild indigestion to meet some of our players before getting in a taxi to Sakura for our player party. In total we have qualified over 20 players for this unique event in Manchester. The party was pretty cool (photos to follow) and everyone was in good form. As well as the usual free bar we had a magician and a vodka luge which proved quite popular. I left before it got messy but will report back tomorrow with any good stories.
Play starts at noon tomorrow UK time when I will be updating as much as possible. The players are in for a real treat. Thanks to our association with Manchester United they will be playing overlooking the famous Old Trafford pitch (Thursday onwards) and have a stadium tour. However, they have also been given tickets to possibly the most anticipated testimonial of the year on Friday (Paul Scholes) The event sold out in 3 days and Cantona, Beckham, Keane, Ince etc are all expected to play! It should be an amazing experience!!
Pokerstein arrived in Manchester at 5pm, suggests BetfairPokerPR ought to have travelled First Class like this monster, full of old people so only vaguely smelt like pee. Left Welcome Party after it got messy, which was still before BetfairPokerPR left, go figure?
To do today: 1. Do not bust 2. Catch cards 3. 4 bet a Scandinavian (there will be plenty to choose from) 4. Use the relevant needle 'congratulations your play is marginally better than Massimo Taibi'

And we are go go go.......in Old Trafford Manchester Suite. After catching a Routemaster to Old Trafford all the players have arrived, registered and sat down at tables. Chuckles (friend of Kunkuwap) forgot his photo ID but has managed to blag his way onto a table. Lots of familiar faces including James Keys (ex Betfair staff and WSOPE final tablist)
Photos and chip counts to follow shortly

What is the point of photos without saying who they are? When I read the daily paper they do not print photos without names, can you do the same. It was also the same at WSOP, loads of photos but no names. Especially the photo of you, betfair pr I would love to see pictures of those who post on here and maybe play against.

Just come back after dinner break and unfortunately JT is no more after running QQ in to AA and then finally getting it all in AK vs QJ and losing. He is now donating his money to the locals in the G Casino.
I will get some chip counts and photos with names in a bit.
(I hope my boss doesn't read annie's posts otherwise I will get fired!)

Amusingly Alex Ferguson from Aberdeen is amongst the chip leaders with 78,000 (he swears he is no relation to the manager of Manchester United)
That would make a great headline if he won!

My colleague Fran will be taking over tomorrow as I need to head back to Betfair HQ - hopefully her blogging will be better than mine.
We will be doing some video interviews with John Tabatabai which will be posted on betting.betfair in the next few days so be sure to head over and take a look.

re 4 no one remembers Taibi re 3, 4 bet on air met with 5 bet re 2, the latter stages of day 1 can be best described as black card putrefaction leading to #1
But hey, at least I ran into Alberto's Kings at the end of the day, so he's got a few chips for Day 2. Also was regularly amused by the frequency I witnessed the classic failed bluff followed by tilt shove following hand. One needs patience even if you are rotting.
To do today: try to

Hey there. Fran found the only way possible to blog worse than BetfairPokerPR, type nothing! They know I’m joking. Anyways here is a day 2 update in case anyone is interested in how the Betfair survivors fared.
Philip Peters took his just above average stack at the start of play to 147000 to head into day 3 he has at least a min cash banked with just 32 remaining going into Friday's play. Well played sir.
Olle Hammar will come back with 118500 on day 3 having started the day with about average, I think he doubled up towards the end of day 2. Anyways whatever he wins should help towards further gym membership, the guy’s pretty ripped!
Witold Krawczyk will come back with 95000 on Day 3, he had a knock towards the end of Day 2 but was able to chip up a little as the majority fell during today’s play
Joshua Hegarty started the day with just shy of 30BB, less than five times the chipleader, but while the chippie did not survive too long, Josh about doubled his starting stack to 68k heading into day 3, congrats.
Friend of Betfair James Keys finished the day 2nd in chips with 425k, you would feel like all he needs to do is avoid any Ozzie donks and he could claim a first prize. We shall see…
Nikolaos Papachatzis was unlucky to finish just short of the money finishing somewhere round 40th to 50th position. Our friend did good only coming back with 15k for day 2. Plus I think he was still out in Manchester when I called it a night.
Alberto Escobar started the day with a reasonable 3 bet shove stack and the remainder of yours truly’s chips and survived 3 hours into the day before getting unlucky after getting it in about 65/35. A stellar display for what he tells me is his first big live tourney, 60th ish
The remaining Betfair Day 1 survivors all crashed before dinner break of day 2, if it was earlier and I had drunk less bad Sangria I’d investigate further. For Waheyyyy tho I will report that Jasper Carrot lookeylikey Alan Stadler went during the second level when he ran his shortish stack into the nut straight of generic aggro Scandi Andrej Fodor.
Apologies to anyone I have insulted above, it’s the cocktails talking, but thought there might be a few people intrigued as to what occurred on day 2 here in Manc. Obviously no pictures from Day 2 for fear Annie might use them to assist her reads.

As it so happens I am looking for a blogger for our upcoming Betfair Live tournaments (unsurprisingly I don't think my skills are quite up to it) I am hoping to persuade Mr Pitt who also freelances for PokerNews

Hi all,i am the jasper carrott lookalike. Got back from manchester last night after two really enjoyable days-wish I lasted longer but cant complain. This was my first 4 day tournament I have ever played and enjoyed the experiance and will certainly try again. The venue and organisation was first class and I know the Betfair staff get ribbed a fair bit,but everything went smoothly from my view and have no complaints. The level of play was not as aggressive as I thought it could have been (especially as well over half the field were europeans)and most played a very tight patient game-especially in the early rounds.I got chips very luckily towards the end of day one when i ran my last 8k into Ace King with Ace 7 and rivered a seven. That doubled me up to 20k and then overplayed 7-8 suited with half my stack into qq.Flop came 776 so finished day one with 43300.Day two started very well and was upto 60k when i gave back 25 or so with Ace Queen against big chipleader who wanted allin-so i passed.Final hand i was in Big Blind with qq.The guy who knocked me out was on cutoff and raised(blind steal?).I flat called.Flop of q 9 5 looked sublime so i checked hoping he would continuation bet but he checked.Turn was a ten,I bet he called.River a 2 so I bet and he went allin.I called and busted,he made nut straight on turn,no complaints-and Thanks to everyone.Enjoy the posts and blog on GSOP live.

I have to agree with PokerStein I did do a terrible job at blogging yesterday but thanks PokerStein for your update, you did a great job at capturing everything that went on with team Betfair. I have finally managed to get yesterday’s pictures uploaded and here are the player names / aliases in picture order.
James Keys Olle Hammar (Iklonkyou) Nikolaos Papachatzis (Suspensor) philip peters (Philly70x) left: Witold Krawczyk (LovePorn69) and right: Joshua Hegarty (snowpaw) Nick Phinn (TheBodyguard)
Last night we had our Betfair player dinner at a Brazilian style restaurant called Bem Brasil and I think I am safe in saying everyone had a great evening – good food, good wine and great company! Big thank you to all the players that joined us for dinner and to John Tabatabai for his ridiculous prop bets at table.
Today’s play will end at about 7pm as we will all be watching the much anticipated Paul Scholes testimonial match.
@Pokerstein would be great to meet the man behind the forum posts. Please come over and say hi today
Fran

Agree with Helmuthian Folds! I dont work FT and if Klup is playing Dublin with a bounty on his head then I want to be concentrating on the easy money rather than this blogging malarkey [;)]

I've been to the last 2 betfair lives and thought HFolds has done a great job with his blogs, if Bf are unhappy with his contributions, they should at least let him know what it is that they require. It seems strange to me that he has been asked to cover London and Tallinn and then when a tournament is in his hometown, he isn't asked

Phillip Peters went out in 14th, was short ran A4 into AQ. Dont think anyone from Betfair, even James Keys made FT, which plays out tomorrow. I'm off to play cash at Manchester 235.

Fran here, apologies the day 3 update is coming through so late but it was manic at the stadium yesterday as I am sure you can all imagine with the Scholes match. PokerStein and I have put our brains together to give you a full update on the BF players in Day 3 of GSOP Live. Please have a read through the commentary below.
N.B. for those of you that know me i.e. TheKlup, you can probably guess how much of the below was my work
Amongst the 32 players who came back for the short day 3, ahead of Paul Scholes’ testimonial which all the qualifiers got to watch from the suite housing today’s play, were 4 members of Team Betfair and of course James Keys who we were adopting to increase the odds of having players to rail come the final day on Saturday. Here’s how they fared:
Stellar display by Philip Peters to take 14th spot for $4,996. He was short at the end but got very unlucky having called off a four bet shove with A9, was delighted to see his opponent’s J8, sick to see the evil 8h first out on the flop. A kinder board would have taken Philip to over 400k just five away from the FT .
Olle Hammar got very unlucky, I think it was blind on blind, aggressive chipleader in the SB and Olle in the BB, Olle three bet shoved knowing that A-5 was ahead of his opponent’s range and was unfortunate to run into Queens. Wheel draw on the flop offered some glimmer of hope, but no further help and Olle’s 11th place finish for $6,494 sent the tourney into hand for hand on 5 handed tables. For the first hour or so Olle was untouchable, eliminating three players and getting close to the chiplead on his third elimination when his 10s cracked Shane Mossop’s Kings.
Witold Krawczyk was the first victim of Olle’s early reign of terror. With blinds of 2500/5000 Witold shoved over Olle’s opening raise of 11,000 with 87, Olle made the tough call with A4s and an inside straight draw on the flop was as close as Witold came to avoiding his 24th place finish for $3,820.
Josh ‘Snowpaw’ Hegarty came back for day 3 with a little more than 10BB and finished 28th for $3,438. The swine that ended Snowpaw’s valiant attempts at short stack ninja-ing was none other than that sharply dressed gentleman Philip Peters. Philip was obliged to call Snowpaw’s shove with QJ given that he woke up with bullets, still though, as was the order of the day, we had a sweat with an 8,9,5 flop giving the inside straight draw. Turn and river bricked and Philip increased his stack.
James Keys had a great start to day 3 taking a commanding chip lead, lost it, regained it and then with 13 remaining had more than twice the chips of anyone else. Looking good huh? But then got it in with AJ vs 55 that would have seen him as the first to crack a million, all was right with the world when an ace hit the flop, but a five on the river started a rapid decline that has been contagious for various chipleaders over the course of GSOP Live Manchester. The rapid descent continued until James busted 10th for $7,449 halting the day’s play, leaving a final table of 9 to play out tomorrow starting at noon.
Thanks Doobs for pointing out that Rob Sherwood ought to be your one to root for at the final table if your allegiance is Betfair. Rob had an eventful final hour or so of play, got his aces cracked by Q8, doubled up with queens and then ended up on the wrong side of a coinflip very late in the day to leave him as (just) the shortest stack heading into the final day’s play. We wish him luck.
Photos of Day 3, the football match and a John Tabatabai video blog will follow later on today.
For anyone looking to get updates on the final day today please visit gsoplive.com. All BF players are out now so we will be enjoying our time away from Old Trafford.

Hi Everyone,Fran here, apologies the day 3 update is coming through so late but it was manic at the stadium yesterday as I am sure you can all imagine with the Scholes match. PokerStein and I have put our brains together to give you a full update on
From what I heard the final table played out at a hearty pace with players trying their best to finish according to their chip counts at the start of the day. Meaning that German Jens Kerper took it down, beating popular Norwegian Rolf Inge Kvanik heads up.
Rob Sherwood outlasted fellow Englishman, serial casher James Browning. Rob’s 8th place was good enough for a shade over $10k, his 9s no match for fifth place finisher, Karl Rosengard’s kings.
Here’s how it wrapped up: 1st: Jens Kerper, $81,175 2nd: Rolf Inge Kvanik, $51,570 3rd: Andis Netlaus, $35,908 4th: Johannes Erfurth, $28,268 5th: Karl Rosengard, $21,174 6th: Martinak Andras, $16,999 7th: Vizsnyiczai Zsolt, $13,752 8th: Rob Sherwood, $10,696 9th: James Browning, $8,786
I had a great time in Manchester, needed a lot of sleep last night to recover from all the over-indulgence and hospitality put on by Fran and Betfair & Renate and the GSOP team. Met a lot of great people. The pic of JT in full Man U kit is worth keeping an eye out for, classic!
