GSOP Manchester Thread

And we are go go go.......in Old Trafford Manchester Suite.
After catching a Routemaster to Old Trafford all the players have arrived, registered and sat down at tables.
Chuckles (friend of Kunkuwap) forgot his photo ID but has managed to blag his way onto a table. Lots of familiar faces including James Keys (ex Betfair staff and WSOPE final tablist)

What is the point of photos without saying who they are?  When I read the daily paper they do not print photos without names, can you do the same.  It was also the same at WSOP, loads of photos but no names.  Especially the photo of you, betfair pr    I would love to see pictures of those who post on here and maybe play against.

Just come back after dinner break and unfortunately JT is no more after running QQ in to AA and then finally getting it all in AK vs QJ and losing. He is now donating his money to the locals in the G Casino.

I will get some chip counts and photos with names in a bit.

My colleague Fran will be taking over tomorrow as I need to head back to Betfair HQ - hopefully her blogging will be better than mine.

Hi all,i am the jasper carrott lookalike.
Got back from manchester last night after two really enjoyable days-wish I lasted longer but cant complain.This was my first 4 day tournament I have ever played and enjoyed the experiance and will certainly try again.The venue and organisation was first class and I know the Betfair staff get ribbed a fair bit,but everything went smoothly from my view and have no complaints.The level of play was not as aggressive as I thought it could have been (especially as well over half the field were europeans)and most played a very tight patient game-especially in the early rounds.I got chips very luckily towards the end of day one when i ran my last 8k into Ace King with Ace 7 and rivered a seven.That doubled me up to 20k and then overplayed 7-8 suited with half my stack into qq.Flop came 776 so finished day one with 43300.Day two started very well and was upto 60k when i gave back 25 or so with Ace Queen against big chipleader who wanted allin-so i passed.Final hand i was in Big Blind with qq.The guy who knocked me out was on cutoff and raised(blind steal?).I flat called.Flop of q 9 5 looked sublime so i checked hoping he would continuation bet but he checked.Turn was a ten,I bet he called.River a 2 so I bet and he went allin.I called and busted,he made nut straight on turn,no complaints-and Thanks to everyone.Enjoy the posts and blog on GSOP live.

Phillip Peters went out in 14th, was short ran A4 into AQ.
Dont think anyone from Betfair, even James Keys made FT, which plays out tomorrow.

Fran here, apologies the day 3 update is coming through so late but it was manic at the stadium yesterday as I am sure you can all imagine with the Scholes match. PokerStein and I have put our brains together to give you a full update on the BF players in Day 3 of GSOP Live. Please have a read through the commentary below.

N.B. for those of you that know me i.e. TheKlup, you can probably guess how much of the below was my work

Amongst the 32 players who came back for the short day 3, ahead of Paul Scholes’ testimonial which all the qualifiers got to watch from the suite housing today’s play, were 4 members of Team Betfair and of course James Keys who we were adopting to increase the odds of having players to rail come the final day on Saturday. Here’s how they fared:

Stellar display by Philip Peters to take 14th spot for $4,996. He was short at the end but got very unlucky having called off a four bet shove with A9, was delighted to see his opponent’s J8, sick to see the evil 8h first out on the flop. A kinder board would have taken Philip to over 400k just five away from the FT . 

Olle Hammar got very unlucky, I think it was blind on blind, aggressive chipleader in the SB and Olle in the BB, Olle three bet shoved knowing that A-5 was ahead of his opponent’s range and was unfortunate to run into Queens. Wheel draw on the flop offered some glimmer of hope, but no further help and Olle’s 11th place finish for $6,494 sent the tourney into hand for hand on 5 handed tables. For the first hour or so Olle was untouchable, eliminating three players and getting close to the chiplead on his third elimination when his 10s cracked Shane Mossop’s Kings.

Witold Krawczyk was the first victim of Olle’s early reign of terror. With blinds of 2500/5000 Witold shoved over Olle’s opening raise of 11,000 with 87, Olle made the tough call with A4s and an inside straight draw on the flop was as close as Witold came to avoiding his 24th place finish for $3,820.

Josh ‘Snowpaw’ Hegarty came back for day 3 with a little more than 10BB and finished 28th for $3,438. The swine that ended Snowpaw’s valiant attempts at short stack ninja-ing was none other than that sharply dressed gentleman Philip Peters. Philip was obliged to call Snowpaw’s shove with QJ given that he woke up with bullets, still though, as was the order of the day, we had a sweat with an 8,9,5 flop giving the inside straight draw. Turn and river bricked and Philip increased his stack.

James Keys had a great start to day 3 taking a commanding chip lead, lost it, regained it and then with 13 remaining had more than twice the chips of anyone else. Looking good huh? But then got it in with AJ vs 55 that would have seen him as the first to crack a million, all was right with the world when an ace hit the flop, but a five on the river started a rapid decline that has been contagious for various chipleaders over the course of GSOP Live Manchester. The rapid descent continued until James busted 10th for $7,449 halting the day’s play, leaving a final table of 9 to play out tomorrow starting at noon.

Thanks Doobs for pointing out that Rob Sherwood ought to be your one to root for at the final table if your allegiance is Betfair. Rob had an eventful final hour or so of play, got his aces cracked by Q8, doubled up with queens and then ended up on the wrong side of a coinflip very late in the day to leave him as (just) the shortest stack heading into the final day’s play. We wish him luck.
