Playing £1/1 live

villian is competent and a winner in the game i guess.

Get dealt qq utg raise to £6, get 4 callers!

flop j 5 4 lead for £12 villian calls, all others fold,

turn 9 all different suits so no flush cards, bet £20 villian calls

river ace, I check villian asks me how much I have left I have 68£
he thinks for 2 minutes then bets £40.

What can he have? Can he ever be value betting a worst hand?

It depends on the value he puts on £40.

where is villian, mp or button?
i suppose either way you should rule out AA, KK. hands he could have you are losing to are AJ, JJ, 99, 55, 44. I suppose 54 soooted is a poss as may be J9.

perhaps he could have floated something like JT and reads your check as weakness and is trying to represent the ace, its hard to see what else he has there that you are beating but i'm not sure i like the check on the river either... you've left yourself a tough decision.

given the info present i'd be more inclined to fold than call.

fold for me also

Snap CALL - he has air or a hand he has just turned into air way enough to call that.
The bet sizing on the river also makes me think he has air. He is betting enough to make you lay down your hand but leaving an amount back you dont think he can fold for but of course he can and that makes the bet more valuale ;)

ps winning players dont play 1/1

The smaller bet sizing rather than just shoving makes me think that he has you beat. Usually when people are bluffing they bet a bit more so that you don't make a curiosity call. Assuming he is a good player too then surely he would check behind his qj/kj/j10 type hands.

also you have bet only 12 inbto a 30 quid pot on the flop

With no draws on board, you are behind far more often than not. Easy fold for me.

Anyway I was villian in the hand, just glad a few people would have folded at the time i thought the river bet looked like total spew!

then again he looked like he was going to muck for a good couple of minutes!
