Obvisouly condolances to your family friend, but to be blunt, why do we need to ban a product that has killed 3-4 people per year from a population of 300 million. Surely this is a fantastic safety statistic?

Do we also ban chewing gum which has a higher fatality rate?

To answer your question though, any babycare forums would help spread this like wildfire, but sitting on the fence and playing devils advocate I am not sure it needs to be banned? I bet more people died from "safer" things all over the world, no?

Remember the push chairs that were banned in the US last year but not here?

They are now banned because of the same issues.

Maybe there is a credble reason to ban them, but the fatality rate isn't one of them, yet that is being used to gain support. Seems odd thats all.

These types of chords have been banned from production in the USA following 359 childrens deaths between 1985 and 1995.

yeah sorry, obv its 30 to 40 per year. which is odds of a mere 8.5 Million / 1 compared to say an asteroid killing you at 0.5M/1, (and much less in America too). I still think you need a better reason than the fatality rate.

Perhaps it is just one of those things that happens and like buses comes in two's, however, another child died this tuesday in stafford from the same cause.

i would have thought the same thing (maybe not have posted it tho).
speeding limits, drink drive limits, assaults(u can shake someones hand and that is classed as assualt technically), parking restrictions etc etc. the country(maybe the whole civilaised world) is finished as far as i am concerned. gonna be a lot of mental time bombs blowing up in the next tens years+ IMO

if things go the way they are going we wont be able to buy a sharp pencil and the same people will moan about the lack of sensibility.

i havent read the article and won't tbo but stats are stats.

at the end of the day, certain products shouldn't be killing people and you shouldn't expect blinds to have much of a fatality rate. surely they can be designed better and do the same job.

and if i had a small kid i wouldn't want these blinds with cords in my home because no offence, they look dangerous. so deaths can also be prevented by not having them in the house, not just banning them from being produced.

Case in Scotland in the last year or so thats similar, offical guy at the inquest said that something should be done. But then again there,s a market for someone building "child proof" blinds and charging a small premium for a better product.

Although its sad I also take the view you can,t legiislate for every eventuallity, you can give incentives to move in a direction.

ffs, ur saying they shouldn't be banned coz they haven't killed enough kids yet!! Yes u cant ban everything in the world that causes a few deaths but these blinds can obviously be produced in a safer way, A loss of 1 childs life is more than enough to look at changing the product to make it safer, and those who make a joke of it, have u got kids?? or just born a heartless**t?
