of course it's underwhelming it's a 1 point bleeding 8! Latest mod cons = more weight = bigger engine needed

exactly

and that will be a bare bones model, with no extras added

remember how much all the extras weigh (electric kits etc)

and using super fuel

i dunno why u dont go for a 3-5 yr old much better car for the same price tbh. will depreciate less, last longer, and drive much better!

happy new yr sir i am off. gl

now the passat is a great car. I will have a look at that when I'm out next week looking again. thanks for the suggestion. just did a quick squint at the local dealer's site and there's a 2008 1.9 diesel for £13k which is just about affordable...

good call sir.

Like the Passatts. Think 13k for an 08 is a bit much, though there's always haggling to be done. There's an 08 1.9 diesel with 35k miles on Autotrader for £9.7k. Though looking through them, the next cheapest 08 plate is £11k. But plenty for less than £12k.

buy private/at auction, dealers massive premiums not worth it for the crap warranties u may get imo.

not fcking about at an auction so that's not an option and I'm certainly not spending £12k or so with some private joe. so dealers or other trade. I'll start with the dealer and go from there - if I can't get a deal I'm content with am perfectly happy to walk away.

and yes kirk, there's a premium to be paid for simplicity rather than hack about in the autotrader I just mosey up to the local vw garage.

that costs me money I know. but so does getting someone to do the cleaning when I could do it myself. and so does getting in a plumber when I could do that too...

aaaaanyyway. that's tomorrow's problem. :)

Lol. Umm, would it really be worth spending an extra £2k to buy a car from the local dealer rather than looking at nearish traders/dealers advertising on autotrader and travelling an extra 20 miles? Surely not? lol. Gl whatever you get anyway, post it up here :)

All Passats I come across on the motorway are drven by complete mentalists (FACT). I read somewhere that because they all wanted BMWs and Mercedes, then only having an option of a Passat on their company car lists was enough to put them over the edge. That strikes me as almost the truth too.

Where as Golfs seem to have perfectly fine drivers.

As an aside what did the people dawdling in the middle lane do, before they had a satnav to stare at. And if I got a satnav, would I be forced to spend my future years in the middle lane at 65?

1. buy a volvo
2. wear a floppy hat while driving it

result = lots of space around you on the road ;)

Sat Navs tell you which lane to take......

Also tell you about all the speed cameras.......light jump cameras ......saved myself hundreds in the last year.......they pay for themselves.....

Last light jump was 3 points and £285 and 2 hours messing with paperwork....

Do they really tell you to sit in the middle lane? .
By:
The Leopard
When: 01 Jan 10 18:09
No......give you lane advice....when coming to a junction.......assuming you are not fishing....

Go to volkswagen.co.uk, you can search on everything they have in the UK, by price. They have non-dealer stock which can be sent to any of the dealerships.

ok thanks all. finally found one I liked and ended up with the 1.9 tdi golf. the passat they were selling at £13k was terrific. had the 2.0 140hp job and is very lively but the garage refused to do any sort of deal on it saying "it's priced to go". lol is it fck.

anyway, ended up with a deal i was happy with on the golf so that's all ok. get it next w/e and am happy enough with it all :)

cheers and beers for all views.

at bit late for that now lol - it's already sorted so please forgive me if I don't post such details for risk of opening a "you've paid too much for that rubbish" debate.

I'm happy with the deal and the car. :)

Dibble takes the head in sand position....
By:
dibble
When: 02 Jan 10 16:17
nah - just no point is there?

all that willl happen is either:
(a) general consensus is good deal. Result - no change
(b) general consensus is bad deal. Result - i feel worse cos I got a bad deal.

so best result if I say the exact details are that I have no change.... hardly head in sand is it?
