i was there on sat and it was a complete farce, on the final 2 tables 16 left, 3 betfair staff on one table and none on the other, being fair they had played well, but apparently they had made it known on their table that wherever they came they couldnt cash so just to take it easy as the top 12 would cash (normally 9)dependent on if they were still in, the other table were unaware of this and when 2 went out on that table to leave 14, one player went over and didnt play a hand until 2 more had been eliminated, one blinded out on the bf staff table and one on the other table, then the guy told the table what was going on. Also there was more than the people there who won entry via the freerolls, some bf staff mates were there plus people who had been invited to haydock, ascot the week before, they had been asked along to try and made it quite clear that they dont play bf anymore but get all these freebies as they know people and they are wanted back. apart from that the people, bf staff were great and the free booze was flowing all night.

the guys who went out between 17 and 12 who didnt know were moaning like hell but no-one took any notice and were told basically that it was the same for all but when they pointed out the discrepency with the bf staff on one table and none on the other and asked the playeres if they were aware and no one on that table was apart from the player who had gone over, they got a 'sorry about that thought everyone knew', ye like they announced it at the beginning. NOT

I was there and throughly enjoyed it. First time I've ever played live. I went out in either 16th or 17th and if I'd had realised it paid to 12th I might have played differently, but I think naivety got the better of me. It's easy to see stack sizes and positions on a computer, not so easy if you've never played live before. I made one donk play and lost half my 12,000 stack, then had to push with qt suited and got called behind me with AJ which held up and I was gone. The hospitality was amazing tho and it was all very friendly. Great buffet, free booze all day - not that I like that sort of thing ;)
Many thanks to Betfair, and, those who live relatively close who qualified and didn't go, you must want your brains testing! All that hospitality and $20k in prize money, all for nothing? It's a no brainer. (rockme) |

this is what really annoys me about betfair i have probably been one of their most loyal customers and have rak ed them thousands and thousands yet i have never beeen invited to a live tourney i have never been invited to a cricket match i have never been invited to the races! in fact ive never even had a phone call or an email!LOL i know quite a few ppl who rak e a hell of a lot less than me and they get invites! maybe now ive stopped plying betfair poker they will make some effort but somehow i very much doubt it

I didn't think I'd be reading about any farce, And also wasn't aware there'd be any betfair staff playing. But I was informed that there'd be 80 entries in the game with 4,000 starting ***** So I suppose any of the opposition being staff shouldn't really make a difference. But that seems a bit dodgy what I was reading about the farce

I believe the betfair staff all had bountys on thir heads - $400 a time so more value for everyone else. They couldnt win any prize.

That is correct.

I had a great time....
A great day out, met a bunch of interesting people against a backdrop of a Free bar and poker tournement. Definitely one of life's Good days. Please pass on my thanks to Rachel, Simon and all the Betfair staff who organised it and a double thankyou for inviting me. P.S. I'm so surprised to see somebody refer to it as a farce !? I suspect you approach life's journey with an extreme case of "Glass half empty" syndrome. I'm glad I'm not you. P.P.S. Hello Rockme, ( I sat on your right on table 6 for a few hours ) P.P.P.S. I raise. |

How do they decide who to invite on these shindigs?
|
|
By:
They pick people who only play freerolls or never play above 5.5$
|
|
By:
Ah well, maybe they can organise a similar event for PAYING CUSTOMERS next time.
