I will not be a happy man if the cold weather sticks around claims the "Betfair Super Saturday" meeting at Newbury on February 11.
Because I have a strong team heading for the meeting - as no doubt you will be reading about in the papers on Tuesday, as I host a press day here for Newbury racecourse and Betfair here this morning.
But you may as well read about my Newbury team here first, so here goes.
At this stage, ante-post favourite Zarkandar (Daryl Jacob) and Brampour (Harry Derham) are my two definite runners in the Betfair Hurdle, Europe's richest handicap hurdle. And Empire Levant could also join them.
What a Friend was a sick horse after Wetherby but he is in really good form at the moment and is my number one hope in the Betfair Denman Chase. He carried a 10lb penalty...

Wetherby
13.40 - Round Tom
Thorough stayer who ran well when second in a Cheltenham novice hurdle last time. Reverts to the larger obstacles, over which he won a three runner Beginners' Chase at Worcester in July. In form and should go nicely in this company, though he admittedly has something to find on the ratings with some of these.
14.45 - What a Friend

After that, I made a mistake in turning him out again in the Grand National to try and exploit a favourable handicap mark. So this is an ideal starting point for him, with his main seasonal targets being Cheltenham again and the Punchestown Gold Cup. ...

Sam Winner could make a quick reappearance at Chepstow on December 27.
He has come out of the Cheltenham race so well that I haven't ruled out going there with him, but it's only a possibility at this stage.
As everyone knows, I like to be as honest and open with the public as possible, and that is why I immediately mentioned after he won at the weekend that he is not a certainty to go for the Triumph (for which he is the 7.2 favourite on Betfair).
I simply won't risk him on fast ground, and he is a tremendous chasing prospect.
As for some of my other juveniles at this stage, Empire Levant ran a pleasing enough hurdling debut at Newbury, where a mistake at the third last cost him any winning chance he may have had. He is a big, strong backward sort, and he will...
