GB -- are you missing my point that Sagan is doing a lot of work in this forward position for no real effect? Whilst your right that he didn't get ahead of de Marchi, he was working almost as hard as his team-mate with none of the protection he would have had if sitting in the guts of the peloton. In those conditions it's almost like both riders are driving the pace, is my point. Thanks for helping me make it, but it doesn't contradict my original point -- he had no place being anywhere near there, it was lunacy.
So Boonen is your only bet? SP. |

great to see these threads getting some discussion :)

At least we're getting somewhere - we've gone from attack => driving the pace => not driving the pace. You're right I am missing your point but if it helps you explain why Sagan didn't win MSR (or Flanders) then who am I to disagree

Actually, I've been there all along, since while admittedly my choice of words might have been more precise, my memory of the Cipressa remains consistent. Simply, and just like Nibali, Sagan was burning himself for later. Why else wouldn't he have won the first monument? Is there any other reason, anyone else has noticed? As far as Boonen being close to his best, I don't see how he might match Kristoff on form? SP

Sagan is clearly not the equal or better of Cancellara, as many thought he could or would be (yet). The 2/1, 3/1 etc we've seen in previous Classics over the past season or two is clearly wrong. But, he hasn't turned into a bad rider overnight and I think hell be able to just ride tomorrow with no pressure. 2/1 is clearly too short but I think that 16s or 20s is too big, so I'll take my chance.

Looks like it's MC and SP versus Clay and GB in an epic match bet -- hope it lives up to the potential we all want!

I have no issue with Sagan's price, 16-1 is about right. He will be better value in other races this season

Wiggins - "If you could just drop out of a helicopter with 40km to go on Cancellara's wheel and then see if you could hold it when he goes, that's an ideal scenario. But there's 220km before that of little French guys coming underneath you, chopping you, calling you a ****** and all this. That's the reality of it. I've got to get through all of that to get to that position to be able to potentially stay with those guys if they go."

SP - you know how highly I rate your opinion and I think you are one of the best posters on betfair but I disagree with you on two points. Your view of Sagan as a Classics rider and your disdain for the GOAT (Bertie
) |

For what it's worth I have backed Boonen, Stybar (to make amends for last year's debacle) and GVA (to get it right on one of these long range attacks for once). All win only

My third outsider was going to be Sam Bennett but I can't find a bookie offering him. Likely to be used as a workhorse but if the stars align.
Going to do a shopping run and then sit in front of the TV for the rest of the day. ![]() |

"I know that I can make history if I win, but in the end I’m just thinking about the race itself and I’ll give my maximum possible to do the race well," Cancellara said.
"I have nothing to lose because I won last weekend. It’s the really more the others who are under a bit of pressure. I won the Tour of Flanders so I can stay a bit more relaxed, and maybe it’s up to the others to make the race. I have a few cards to play." |

On the Flanders thread, thanx!
![]() "If this is the season for which Niki Terpstra will be regarded as having raised his level of racing to the highest of standards, then he needs to claim a monument, and I simply cannot exclude him here, nor for Paris-Roubaix, as his form and speed, especially with what he showed in his win in Dwars door Vlaanderen, suggests that there’s more wins to come this season. Treat warily. One of the main contenders." ![]() Absolute classic stuff -- what a race! Great stuff MC, well done mate! Cheers, SP |
