I was very impressed with how Scott Edwards performed last week. His opening game against Tim Stone ended up going a lengthy but entertaining 81 minute match. Edwards won after an exciting tie-break set which could have gone either way. He performed superbly in the midday game against Simon Skelton and dominated the first set by winning 11-4. Unfortunately, he narrowly lost the second set 5-4 and was beaten 2-0 in the tie-break set. Edwards has a good chance of making the top 2 today.

I thought Wayne Willgress would have made last week's top 2 quite comfortably but it turned out he ended up finishing in 4th place on the day. He was unlucky against Rowlands in the opening game and should have won to be honest. The game against last years champion, Nick Brett, didn't go too well but he bounced back against Les Gillett and deservedly won 2-9, 5-4, 2-0. I can see Willgress picking up a couple of wins today and has a real chance of taking his first event of the year.

It wasn't the best of days two weeks ago  for Jarrad Breen. He is one of only two players that have failed to win a game in the Super8serieS in 2014. It's a difficult day ahead for Breen but I can see him getting of the mark and beating Scott Edwards at 10:00.

Mark Royal pulled off a world class performance in the opening event of the 2014 Super8serieS. The world number 9 brushed aside Mark Dawes in the opening game (9-0, 5-5) and followed that up with a fantastic display against Robert Paxton. His first real test of the round-robin stage was against Billy Jackson, but he still managed to win 2-1 in the tie-break set. After playing that well, he was the bookies favorite for the final but Mark Dawes just edged him out to claim the win. Royal ended up scoring 63 shots on the day and conceded 45. Very impressive stats. If he plays like that again today there will be only one winner.

Match Predictions

08:00: Scott Edwards v Wayne Willgress - Wayne Willgress
09:00: Jarrad Breen v Mark Royal - Mark Royal
10:00: Scott Edwards v Jarrad Breen - Jarrad Breen
11:00: Wayne Willgress v Mark Royal - Mark Royal
12:00: Mark Royal v Scott Edwards - Scott Edwards
13:30: Wayne Willgress v Jarrad Breen - Wayne Willgress

John Price finished in third place two weeks ago after picking up is only victory against Jarrad Breen. All three of his games in the round-robin stage ended up going to a tie break set and each one of them ended up as 2-1. It goes to show, the Welshman is pushing is opponents in every game and will count himself unlucky for not picking up more than one win. Price is up against three opponents on form and will need to replicate those performances if he's going to make today's final.

I thought Tim Stone was going to make the final two on the 18th February. He narrowly missed out after some impressive performances and ended up scoring 38 shots and conceded 34. The game against Scott Edwards and Jason Greenslade really could have gone either way. It's a very tough group today and Stone will be pushing for a top 2 finish.

Mark Dawes continued where he left off from last year and claimed the opening event of the Super8serieS 2014. His opening game however didn't quite go to plan and he was comfortably beaten 9-5. 5-5. Dawes recovered well beating Billy Jackson and then Robert Paxton in one of the quickest games I've seen in the Super8serieS (46 minutes). I fully expect this fine form to continue and I'm particularly looking forward to the game against Nick Brett at 09:00.

Nick Brett dominated (as expected) last week during the round-robin stage. I think it's fair to say the Scottish Open winner completely outplayed his opponents. He was nailed on to defeat Les Gillett in the final but all credit to Gillett as he dug deep and matched Brett on every end. Brett ended up losing 6-7, 8-8 in a very tense final. I think Brett has a more difficult task ahead of him today but he should win today's event.

Match Predictions

08:00: John Price v Tim Stone - Tim Stone
09:00: Mark Dawes v Nick Brett - Mark Dawes
10:00: John Price v Mark Dawes - Mark Dawes
11:00: Tim Stone v Nick Brett - Nick Brett
12:00: Nick Brett v John Price - Nick Brett
13:30: Tim Stone v Mark Dawes - Tim Stone
