Really looking forward to this, fancied Velasquez early but those 'primetime' shows sway me towards Lesnar everytime!

Yep top card boys.

Tito Vs Matt Hamill is intresting considering Tito did everything but blow Hamill off in the TUF series!

And What can you say about brock came back all guns blazing from his injury lay off and overcame the early onslaught from Carwin. I think if Brock was gonna get beat anytime soon then that was the fight, what with ring rust and Shane never going beyond the 1st round etc etc...  I can not see him geting beat for a long time.

So the Mortgage money is on again just hope i dont have to go thru the 1st rnd fom hell again like the Carwin fight

Betting in doubles trebles and accas i think is best left to football these days, with the sport of MMA geting so hard to predict i personly will keep to singles only from now on.

I'm pleased to see the Brock backers, the more the better. This time, I think you will do your dough.

I'm with Cain on this. I make him a 4/6 shot, so anything above evens is a value bet. I like Brock and have won a few quid on him, but he is very limited in the stand-up and Cain won't be easy to take down, and won't be as easy to dominate on the ground as Carwin was if he does get him to the mat.

Aside from this, I will be rooting for Hamill to beat up Tito. I see a 3rd round stoppage.

At the prices, I'll be backing Kampmann in the hope that he can avoid the TD and beat Shields in the stand-up.

Should be a great card!

I'm with $wordfish one bet for me tonight Yvel @7/4

Yvel fights Jon Madsen.Yvel for me has kept much better company than Madsen.
Obviously a clash of styles fight and given the way things have been of late in the ufc with wrestlers taking down opponents and laying on them for 3 rounds there is a likelihood that this could go that way.

Madsen though hasn't fought the same level of opponent as Yvel has and it wouldn't surprise me to see Yvel end this early by eye gouge or bite to the earLaugh

Cain Velasquez will only win if he can KO Brock Lesnar.

As i fancy him to win it therefore makes no sense to bet on the 5/4 that is available and instead bet with SkyMiniBet at 8-1 for Cain Velasquez to win KNOCK OUT OF THE NIGHT.

At the end of the day, if/when he knocks him out it will HAVE to be KO of the night due to the sheer verocity of a punch or kick needed to do it!

It'll be about 5.15am, so not quite as bad as tobermory makes out! [;)]

I can't see past Lesnar.  It depends on how long Cain can land some leg kicks and move away before Brock catches him.

Cain doesn't have concussive power in his hands, he couldn't stop Kongo, he couldn't stop Rothwell (from memory, he hit him a lot and whilst he was too much for Rothwell, Rothwell did complain when the ref stopped the fight).  He did drop Nog, but Nog is shot.  Nog was hand picked for Cain, as I pointed out before that fight.

Even Carwin couldn't knock Brock down, Brock went down to escape the punches.  I think this could be quite one-sided with Brock winning by KO (Brock takes Cain down, isolates an arm and then unleashes viking fury onto Cain's face forcing the ref to come in and stop the fight).

If Cain can land kicks without being taken down then he could negate Brock's shot (as in a wrestling shot) and start picking off a less mobile Brock.  That's the only way I can see him winning.
Report Templeton Peck October 24, 2010 12:27 AM BST
Oh, and they show two prelims at 2am our time.  So you'll have two prelims (Cote v Lawlor should be a good fight) and then at 3am they go into the main card.

I'm not sure of the order of the main card though as all sources have Schaub v Gonzaga kicking things off but at the weigh-ins Joe Rogan said Sanchez v Thiago was the first fight.  Anyone know?

tito, not a hamill fan, think ortiz still has something to offer the sport like the underdog odds
also small bet on tito by decision(was torn between that and tko but think hammills tough enough to last 3 rounds)

brock, man is a beast decent odds, cain is well rounded but think brock will manhandle him
brock inside distance 2nd round ko or sub

thiago, dont like sanchez, hes not a 170lber, going back to 55 after this fight , dont think he has the heart

Sanchez has said he's moving down to 155lb after this fight so it does make you wonder if his heart is in this fight.  Anything could happen in this fight as their both pretty inconsistent.

I think Hamill will beat Tito.  Tito's not beat anyone since he beat Ken Shamrock 4 years ago, and Shamrock was washed up back then.

He looked in great shape at the weigh-in but he's not fought for a year after having neck surgery so I don't put too much stock in his appearance.  He looked awful against Griffin in his last fight (Nov 09) and Hamill is more explosive than Griffin and will be a tougher test for a rusty (crippled?) Ortiz.  I think the market tends to underestimate the effect of being injured and not fighting for 11 months.

Report Templeton Peck October 24, 2010 5:44 AM BST
He looked in shape to me.  I'm looking forward to watchign it again.  He came storming out with a flying knee.  I think he tried to enforce his power/size advantage but soon found out Cain's wrestling was top notch.  He then probably got a little concerned.

His stand up has always been poor as he's only been striking for a relatively short period.  He's not a natural striker and has little head movement.

I don't think his punch resistance is any worse than any other heavyweight, I think he's a little too gung-ho and so gets struck a lot more often and cleanly than more reticent/sensible heavyweights.

He's very inexperienced and I'm sure he'll come back better for this fight.

I can see Cain/JDS/Carwin all being able to beat each other, which could lead to some great fights.

I wonder how much he can improve though, i know he is in-experienced but will he

covering up. Sure he will come back better and look forward to seeing the re-match at some point!
Report elguapo222 October 24, 2010 11:14 AM BST
He won't. He'll come back, but he won't learn. Lesnar is too stiff. His hands look uncomfortable, he doesn't back up well, and hates punishment. He tends to crumble up to feel safer. He was broken mentally once he threw everything he had in the first few seconds and did NOTHING to an experienced Champ. I'd rather have the hard work, and the talents of Velasquez over Brock Lesnar's size at the top. It represents the sport a lot better, having to be well rounded and not just have the size of a silverback. Velasquez looked consistent like he always is and as long as he's there I can't see anyone taking his belt. Junior has great striking but, wow Velasquez, wow.

Brock curled up and accepted defeat, pathetic. Showed him to no heart what so ever
Report scotty66 November 1, 2010 1:21 PM GMT
Baxter, what im saying is fighting imo is 50% skill and 50% heart, toughness, agression, and will to win.  If you havent got the latter then i belive a person/fighter will give in when the going gets tough. When you meet someone with a good skill set you need that toughness and will to win to see you through. Brock showed he can do it but against a tiring Carwin is different to a fresh mexicano.

Brock IMO was beaten as soon as Cain got back to his feet after the Lesnar takedown even the way he came out to me seemed a bit desperate, as if he belived he couldn't stand and trade with Cain then the guy takes a punch and throws his self across the cage trying to run away hence the term brock had no fight in him/self belief.

If you go into a fight thinking youre not going to win there's only gonna be one outcome a beating that you deserve for been a fukein pusssy. I would rather go down all guns blazing then curl up like a timid stray dog.

How can people/fighters talk the talk about how youre going to do this and that to another fighter then put in a effortless showing is beyond me, i personly would be to ashamed to show my face again.

PS: u want some watched the same fight as me.
Report Stupiderlikeafox November 3, 2010 11:33 AM GMT
Scotty - your post shows you are very much a beginner in the sport of MMA. The way the fight went is more of a testament to Cain's abilities, and certainly not due to lack of heart in Brock. I have no doubt he'll be back, and his stand-up will improve. I just doubt whether he will have the ability to beat Cain when they re-match.

I'll be lumping on again if the odds are anything like they were last time, unlikely I know. The 5/4 for Cain in the first fight was excellent value. We will be lucky to get 4/5 next time.

Got a nice double up with Hamill winning, let down for a few grand more by Kampmann in a 4 timer.

Having a pretty good run on UFC events this year, only made a loss at a couple and very close to a couple of very large payouts.

You're a bit small for me Scott.  I hear your cardio is your strength, but a bit chinny.

The thing about Brock in this fight was his tried and tested shock and awe approach had little or no effect on Cain, as I expected. He was in against a better fighter with more skills in the areas that mattered. Darwin would have had the same result if his cardio was as good as yours Scotty.

Whilst on his back the reality of the situation hit him - Cain could punch hard all night, and he was I'll equipped to deal with it. He was outclassed, and I know you know all about that feeling, right?

The shock and awe approach did work to a certain extent.  Brock's biggest mistake was with the first takedown when he tried to pass Cain's guard way too quickly.  Brock carried his intensity on his feet into his ground game and gave Cain an opportunity to get back up.

Brock does have heart but he doesn't know how to react to hard shots.  That's a big difference.

Thankfully it appears Brock wants to continue fighting and wants to fight Roy Nelson.  Hopefully next year is spent fighting the sub-elite and then he can get back into title contention as a much better fighter.
Report Stupiderlikeafox November 5, 2010 2:04 PM GMT
I agree TP. He's a good guy to have around, brings some unique stuff to the table.

Heart is of course unmeasurable - but to say a fighter in the UFC doesn't have any heart is ridiculous. You need plenty to just step up into the octagon. For another fighter to be the one questioning his heart is a pretty poor show - fellow fighters should be best placed to understand the mental pressures and strain, and that this  strain can be much harder to deal with than the physical side of the sport.

He'll be back for sure.
Report Templeton Peck November 5, 2010 4:18 PM GMT
It surprises me a little that nobody has mentioned his interview with Joe Rogan immediately after the fight.
