Agree Ken Flo takes this... |

Big Country vs Struve should be interesting.
Hope Skyscraper has been working on his takedown defence because Big Country will shoot for the take down imo. |

Roy Nelson vs Stefan Struve
I can sum this one up with one question - did you watch GSP-Hardy the other night? I like Struve and think if he keeps progressing at the rate he is, and keeps filling out in that 6' 11' frame of his, he could go very far. He is still only 22 and is training with K1 standard kickboxers, so not only does he have a good ground game with his huge legs helping his leverage (excels at body triangles) but his striking will cause a lot of problems to a lot of people. He also has a good chin and great heart, as shown vs Stonjic and Buentello. But he has one huge weakness - wrestling. More often than not, he ends up on his back at some stage during a fight. Chase Gormley got him down easily and I think Nelson will get him down too. SS weighs about 247lbs but due to the muscle he is developing he should start weighing heavier everytime he steps in the Octagon. And against the likes of Nelson, he'll need all the weight he can put on. Although Nelson is not a wrestler per se, he has shown in the past he can stick to a takedown game plan and see it through. He will be stronger than SS in the clinch. Although he seems to be getting slimmer, I think that may be a disadvantage for the rotund one, as his knowledge of what to do with his belly in the ground game is vast and won him quite a few fights. If he decides to stand and bang, this fight could quickly get away from him, especially if Struve starts using push kicks which he hasnt done but should have done by now. He was getting comprehensively beaten by Shaub (who I have said and will continue to maintain that he will turn out better than Nelson) in the standup until he caught Shaub with a massive right hook. Nelson is also a black belt in BJJ from Renzo Gracie (fights Matt Hughes at UFC 112) and he does not give black belts away lightly - so this should be more than enough to neutralize SS's horizontal attack. There is no reason for Big Country not to take this fight to the ground. In short, while I like Skyscaper and think he has the brighter future, and would love if he won, this style matchup is bad for him and I expect Nelson, despite the fact I don't rate him much, to take him down and beat on him for 15 minutes solid. |

Struve has a huge 11" reach advantage over Roy, that will be interesting in the stand up.
Roy will definitely try to get it to the ground ASAP and where i imagine Struve won't be able to move the big f*cker :) :) I'd like to see Struve win this but i'd have to go with Big Country here, finishing with in the Crucifix position :) which can be so unbelievably effective and one of the worst positions to be in imo. |

florian vs gomi
iv got florian winning this because gomi hasnt looked himself at all in the last couple of years, however the current odds for kenny to win at 1.3 means im not going to be betting on this fight. gomi has excellent boxing which coupled with brilliant takedown defense could see the fight going the same way as bj vs kenny. nelson vs struve big country has plenty of doubters which imo is down to his massive beer gut. despite this he actually posseses very good cardio. nelson also posseses a really good record with a few of his losses having controersial incidents. against arlovski at affliction1 big country was working for a kimura until the ref decided to stand them up in an utterly shocking bit of refereeing. against monson there are reports that the judges score cards were mixed up and monson got the decision instead of roy. anyway on to struve im not one who is currently raving about him. hes so far struggled to wins against a past his best buentello and a brilliant come from behind victory over an average stojnic. in these 2 fights and the gormley victory he has spent time on his back and whie having the gangly legs to catch people in triangles and armbars roy is a world class grappler. big country holds a victory over mir in grappling competition and hel be able to control struve throughout the fight on his way to a tko late on roy nelson 3rd round tko quarry vs rivera both guys like to slug it out and this has little chance of going the distance. i believe quarry to hold the advantage in the power stakes and also in the chin department however his defence is suspect and always looks like hes been involved in a war after each feet. rivera does have the power to ko quarry but jorge has a susceptible chin and think hel get tagged and kod before he can make inroads on quarry. nate quarry 1st round ko pearson vs siver coud be talking through my wallet here as this is the last leg i need to land an acca but see no way pearson loses this fight. his last fight against the veteran aaron riley, pearson absolutely annhilated him. his boxing looked crisp and weve seen in previous fights vs andre winner his wrestling also seems too strong for the german. only way siver wins this is through another awesome spinning back kick pearson unanimous decision olivera vs winner andre winner has excellent standup and training with the likes of paul daley at roughhouse means its likely got better than the last time we saw him. olivera has dangerous submissions but i think winner will catch him on the feet before it gets to the ground winner 1st round tko torres vs volkmann volkmann is a big underdog coming into this fight but i think hell prove to be too much for torres. volkmann has shown decent wrestling, and trains at minnesota mma with guys like brock lesner and brock larsson. hes also dropping weight to 155 for the first time which means hel be the bigger guy come fight night, however this could affect his cardio. torres has very strong bjj however i think volkmann's wrestling will negate this. volkmann lasted 15 minutes with paulo thiago who i believe is a better grappler than torres. Torres was also taken down in his last fight vs melvin guilard who hasnt used his wrestling too much in the past few years but greg jackson saw this as an avenue to win the fight and i see xmas taking the same route to victory volkmann unanimous decision tibau vs uno think this has lay and pray snoozefest written all over it. as is typical with far east fighters uno is small for the division. tibau in contrast is huge for 155 and see him stifling all unos attempts at reversals and subs from the back and dumping uno on his back with big takedowns to take the judges decision tibau unanimous decision okami vs linhares okami can win this fight wherever he wants. his standup and reach will win him the fight on the feet and his wrestling will win the fight on the ground. linhares cardio loooked susceptible against paul harris. i see okami standing for the first round resting on linhares against the cage wearing him down until he takes him down for some late round gnp to win the fight okami 1st round tko emerson vs lentz neither guy has been too impressive inside the octagon but i think emerson will do enough to win this fight. emersons weekeness is checking leg kicks and his takedown defense...lentz is a good wrestler but think that emersons stand up will keep the fight at distance to stop lentz shooting in. lentz does not pose the same problems dos anjos caused emerson with leg kicks. emerson 2nd round tko |

spot on kauto, thats what i thought,i like struve but i see no way he can win this fight, struve long limbs give fighters problems once they get him to the floor but roy is very technical and is a bjj black belt which should be more than enough to make sure he doesnt get caught in a triangle,i actually think he will wear him out and then ko him probably in the 3rd,i actually think roy is a bit under rated. Going with the kenflo, nelson and pearson treble.

By:
In the paper today i looked to check and it had it starting at 2 AM and now looking at the online t.v. guide it says its starting at 2 AM
Anyone know the actual start time??. |
|
By:
It's definitely 1am. The clock changes have probably confused a few people. For instance it's not GMT now but GMT+1 (which is BST).
http://uk.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=eventDetail.Home&eid=2898 You'll notice the UFC have said 1:00 am GMT but that's wrong as it's now BST. It's definitely 8pm ET which means it's definitely 1am our time. Everyone's confused by the time change. I expect the UFC saying it's 1am GMT has confused a lot of people. A bit of a babble but it's quite interesting. As an aside, check your P+L on here for today and notice how it does it from 23:00 yesterday. BF obviously having trouble with the time change too. |
