The second leg of the UFC's March Madness is on in the early hours of Sunday the 28th. 4am start I think.
GSP will defend his title successfully for the 4th time against Dan Hardy, who will be the first Brit to lose a fight for a UFC title. Theres not a lot to be said. In every facet of the game Rush is better. I laugh at people saying Hardy has a chance because he has good standup. Pitbull has far superior striking to Hardy and GSP beat him down relentlessly for 5 5 minute rounds. People are getting carried away by supposed holes in Rush's game because of his unbelievable wrestling ability. He is a Kyokushin (street fighting) Karate black belt ffs.
2/11 is value
GSP by late 1st round TKO
Mir and Carwin is exciting. Carwin has a chin, good wrestling, has dynamite in his hands and against Gonzaga he showed that when hurt, he has the ability to be good defensively against a top BJJ guy and stand back up. He is 11-0 but apart from Gonzaga, he has fought no-one. Now he fights Mir, a somebody, who is desperate to get back to Lesnar. Mir's Muay Thai is getting better all the time. He's definitley smoother on his feet than Carwin, who is still quite stiff, but has nowhere near as much power. Some think Mir's new found confidence in his standup could be his downfall, and they may be right. But I think despite the obvious advantage he has on the ground, and the disadvantage he has in terms of power/one strike KO ability, he will engage in a standup battle and win it. He makes better angles, is much harder to hit and will land at will on the static Carwin. It's a bad match up for Carwin imo - he has a puncher's chance, nothing more. I see this ending much like Mir's last win - hitting Carwin, knocking him to the ground, and winning by sub. Of course I am worried about Shane landing - even a glancing blow will do damage - but Mir is crazy hungry for a title shot.
8/11 for Frank
Mir by 2nd round sub
Alves and Fitch should be a good fight.Fitch beat him Alves 4 years ago but since then Pitbull has improved hand over fist and was on a huge tear up, including Kos and Hughes, that ended with a title shot, in which he was hammered by GSP at UFC 100. These are the 3rd and 4th best at 170lbs in the world - BJ being at 2. Fitch wasnt so great last time out vs Mike Pierce, who won well last night, but he is a puzzle only figured out by the champion in the last 7 and a half years. As all his teammates at AKA have, he has super wrestling, which was Alves's achilles heel last time vs GSP and the first time these two met. But he beat up Kos, a better wrestler than his AKA buddy Fitch. However Kos was stepping in at short notice. Alves has sick Thai with devastating leg kicks - he would win a standup war, but you are taking a chance his improved wrestling and takedown defence is enough to stop Fitch bringing this to the ground. I think this should be evens the pair, and as such the value lies with Fitch who doesnt get much love due to a lack of finishing ability. However I think if Alves has reacted well to his defeat vs GSP, he will take this.
i thought they were pretty similar, but lesnar was way taller and way wider
holy sh1t - carwin lands a hook he wins but lesnar might be able to control him too
if thats the case i can see lesnar reigning for a long time

This is going to sound weird....but GSP could gas himself here u know...I dont think he's hurting Hardy like he did when he got Thiago and BJ to the floor.

at no stage did i ever think hardy should even have been in there let alone think he even had a little chance
hardy was way out of his depth
watch him lose his ext few fights vs kos etc
feel sorry for those of you on gsp by tko or subat no stage did i ever think hardy should even have been in there let alone think he even had a little chancehardy was way out of his depthwatch him lose his ext few fights vs kos etc
forget Silva...he should bore off and do wrestling at the olympics or just do jiu jitsu tournaments because he has no interest in stand up...boring arse fighter.

getting hit by serra has changed him as a fighter - he realises now he may be a bit chinny, so he does what makes sense

I respect his wrestling ability but I don't respect his lack of respect to the paying public and his lack of balls.
They say steroids shrink your balls. GSP has no balls.

he didnt, he said the exact same after the alves fight
'why would i want to fight the fight where my opponent is strongest? i want to fight him where he is weakest'

I have no problem with him taking it to the ground but his corner telling him to do nothing for the first 4.5 minutes of each round and then try a bit of gnp is not brave. Apart from a few sub attempts he did not try to finish the fight.

bertrude basset 28 Mar 05:41 GSP fought NOT to lose....never went all out for the win
Exactly. He just wanted to control the fight. If all he wants is wins and the belt then that's fine but he said he wanted to be treated as the best fighter of all time. You need a little extra to be considered that.

Oh well, just frustrating to watch. Hardy deserved his shot (despite some of the nonsense spouted by others) but think it's fairly obvious he needs to work on his takedown defense.
Off to bed. Finally.

Doing a crazy little double 62/1 Carwin beating Mir in the first round and GSP beating Hardy on points!
Top stuff !!!
King Sav 26 Mar 00:30 Hope Alves is ok.Doing a crazy little double 62/1 Carwin beating Mir in the first round and GSP beating Hardy on points!Top stuff !!!
well done king sav.i did carwin 1st and gsp 2nd and 3rd :(
Respect to georges, proved once again that he and anderson silva are the best 2 fighters in the world, make the fight happen Dana!
Great heart from Dan who gave his all but he really isnt in the same league as gsp but no one is in the whole division. To not tap in that fight Dan deserves alot of credit and for those taking the pi$$ outa him should go back and watch the gsp vs bj penn fight, think everyone rates Penn dont they?! He got demolished and showed no heart at all.
Hardy isnt the best in the division but ive argued before that he did deserve his title shot, fitch and alves had already been mauled by gsp and kos got KTFO by Thiago and dismantled by alves. He may lose some of his next fights if he fights fitch who will just lay on top of him for 3 rounds as usual and alves would beat him also and maybe even kos,but there isnt any shame in that. If Hardy did manage to beat 1 of those then by some peoples logic he would deserve another title shot! Really dont want to see that anytime soon unless he improves 10 fold!!!
Carwin is a MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont think Anderson Silva would be a good fight for GSP, Silva's far too big and gsp isnt a big ww. Imo both should move up a weight class now. Gsp v maia, marquadt, wanderlei, sonnen etc would be more interesting and competitive as would Silva v rampage, rashad, machida, shogun, couture etc
If i was dana id be pushing gsp to move up and hold a tournament style old school ufc event with 8 ww's to decide new champ Bj, koscheck, daley, hardy, fitch, alves, hughes, serra, thiago?

Love all the recent shuffling about in divisions...wonder if Bisping might cut to 170lbs.
....
a welterweight tournament would be excellent.GSP vs Maia would be excellent. Love all the recent shuffling about in divisions...wonder if Bisping might cut to 170lbs. ....
I genuinely am shocked i've won that bet haha, cheers guys wish i put more than a tenner on. Just finished watching it cos i couldn't stay up, great show and really can't wait for Lesnar vs Carwin!

Hope he steps up to middleweight....I think he will be like Anderson Silva...still dominating people in a higher weight class with his main offence...Silva took his striking with him to 205 and I think GSP will do the same and still dominate fighters at 185 with his wreslting and takedowns.
but when he runs in someone like Damien Maia I think he will f***ed.
what will he do then? Stand and trade? bad idea....Maia is getting better and better here thanks to Wanderlei. surely cant go to the ground considering Maia's world class BJJ.
the fight pastor has told me to forgive GSP so I will. http://fightpastor.com/2010/03/28/i-forgive-you-gsp/Hope he steps up to middleweight....I think he will be like Anderson Silva...still dominating people in a higher weight class with his main off
People forgetting (including GSP by the looks of things) how good GSP's standup is. Although Maia is improving on his feet, Rush would beat him in a karate/kickboxing/muay thai contest hands down.
Just after watching the main event again. Think it entirely justified the huge criticism it got when it was announced - Hardy didn't do jack sh1t the whole fight and simply shouldn't have been in there. Apart from escape from an arm bar and a kimura and showing toughness, he gave nothing. He had 25 minutes and not only did he not land once when he said he would, but he didn't come of with one attacking move for the duration of 5 5 minute rounds. Yet all the criticism post fight is of Georges being unable to stop him. Well, he had an off night. He admitted he wasnt happy with himself. No big deal. It wasnt an Alves he was fighting. To dominate Alves for 25 minutes is superb. To dominate Hardy but not finish is disappointing. Shows you the difference in Hardy and Alves or Fitch or Kos ect, let alone the difference in Hardy and GSP.
People saying it wasn't entertaining or that GSP is a puss. Well if you don't find a master of his craft at work then you're not a true fan. GSP's wrestling is a sight to behold, just like Maia's BJJ, BJ's Boxing and Spider's Thai. He isnt a puss either - a champion who takes on all comers is never a puss. It would have been stupid for him to stand with Hardy, not brave. If he stands with Hardy, he only has a 70% chance of winning. If he takes him to the ground and does what is his now trademark, he has a 99% chance of winning. I know what one I'd rather go with.

he will be f***ed if he meets Maia?! Other way round!!! GSP would smash him in the statnd up and theres not a chance in hell that Maia would be able to get GSP down,if he some how managed it then GSP would get straight back up!! Far far superiour fighter!

bj penn got taken to pieces and was made to throw in the towel incase GSP actually killed him,Alves did slightly better than Dan but not much better,no real surprises as alves is the number 2 ww imo and fitch also got beat up the whole fight and kos would go the same way as fitch, alves and dan, that i am 100% certain of yet there isnt really any criticism of those fighters. For me and this is my opinion, dan deserved that shot purely because he was unbeaten and there wasnt anyone else,we all know what will happen if gsp fights alves or fitch again and it was time to give someone else a go. Next up for GSP if he stays in ww division is prob going to be the winner of alves and fitch if it goes ahead, and next up for hardy? possibly the winner of kos vs semtex or maybe thiago? If hardy won his next fight would it be his turn for another title shot at GSP again? cos i can guarentee gsp would beat fitch or alves again! Comfortably!

Two things - firstly I'd have my house on Fitch or Alves or BJ beating Hardy, and secondly, it doesn't prove much because Hardy done better than a Fitch or a Penn vs GSP. Know why? And this is key.
Fitch and Alves and BJ all went in to beat GSP. They actually attacked and as a result took more damage. Hardy went in from the outset not to get killed and to get to the cards. It was a feeble effort not befitting someone given the (undeserved) opportunity of a lifetime.
BJ was in no shape to take on GSP the 2nd time. The first round was even. And Penn still attempted things on the ground and tried to use his boxing even when badly gassed. Hardy done nothing. Zero. Zilch. It was Penn's brother who threw in the towel, not BJ. He probably could have got to the judges scorecard if he wanted to take another 5 minute beating. Also, the first time BJ fought GSP, when he was actually in shape, he gave GSP an absolute lesson in the first round.
Fitch came forward and came forward and got picked apart. No shame in that. He came out prepared to get pummelled for a chance to win the title.
Alves showed some takedown defence. It took GSP a bit of time to establish his dominance on the fight. Also, Alves stood up a good few times. Hardy hardly got back to his feet at all.

No point going over and over it now anyone, its all over and done with.
It's just imo you have to be at least top 3 or 4 in the world to deserve a shot. I don't have Hardy top 7.
But I'll only be proven right when he's beaten against his next few opponents.

i too think he would get beat by fitch, alves and maybe kos,im not saying he wouldnt,im saying kos didnt deserve a shot at the belt and the other 2 had recently had a shot at the belt and got dismantled.

not a chance penn would have made it to the judges :) He was in pieces and getting smashed repeatedly to almost every part of his body, thats why they threw the towel in,hardy was never hurt apart from the 2 subs. Hardy got beat up throughly and completley by the best fighter in the world.

GSP moving up would be a massive plus for the WW division imo and create so much excitement in there as no one can touch him and him leaving would level the playing field and blow the division wide open.

other than two arm bars basically hardy was never in trouble with gsp.. yup he didnt do a lot goign forward but he should learn from it.. and i hope he does he showed a shyte lot of heart and bottle against a far better opponent..
ill be honest i had to turn away watching those arms being wrenched.. i swore i heard a crack at one point..

Forgot to mention how impressed i was with pelligrino! I used to think he was average at best but his domination of neer and his performance at 111 really impressed me!
