Can't for the life of me understand how Hardy gets a shot when Daley would have been more worthy, let alone a few others.

Basically if Daley can outstrike Kos, and shows this superb takedown defense he says he has, then he must geta shot. But then he'll be going in against GSP - a better striker and far better wrestler than Kos.
Report mehmet j mook January 22, 2010 5:19 PM GMT
Had Daley even picked up a W when hardy and gsp was signed? Not sure who else deserves a shot really? Alves would prob beat hardy but he had already had his shot, rumble johnson got outclassed by kos and kos had recentley been kod by an average fighter in thiago.

I think kos's ego will get ther better of him,Daley will do plenty of talking untill the fight and kos will want to go in there and trade with him to prove he is the better striker,in which case he will get put to sleep, that overhand right he throws leaves himself wide open and Daley will put him to sleep. If Kos uses his brain and uses his wrestling he could well lay and pray for the whole bout like he did to leben on tuf.

Kos doesnt stand a chance against GSP,assuming George gets past hardy that is ;)
Report mehmet j mook January 22, 2010 5:20 PM GMT
Daley would have a punchers chance and nothing more against GSP,the same as serra did.
Report comeonkautostar January 22, 2010 9:06 PM GMT
And Daley punches better than Hardy. They've both said they wouldnt fight each other, but I'd back Sextex at 1.33 if they did.
Report comeonkautostar January 23, 2010 1:15 AM GMT
Sextex ffs? He isnt as good as Semtex imo.
Report EastLower Gooner January 23, 2010 5:47 AM GMT
read gsp brought in Mousasi and one of the Gracies to add some fire power to his all-star training camp...plus he's comming in at his biggest ever for 170.....said he's put on 8lbs of lean muscle mass since his last fight (now 193)....suppose thats him getting things set up for the move to 185lbs.

heard they're going to a primetime show like with the bj penn fight...should be great viewing!!!!

.....

as for Kos...surely he's not stupid enough to abandon his game and just stand and trade with Daley...surely not. actually I take that back he probably is..

btw hilarious matt serra interview...

I guarentee you he is ELG,massive ego and thick to go with it,just watch him in the build up to the fight, semtex will wind him up and he will come out swinging, over hand right, wide open,a kip on the floor!

1.33!!!!! Jesus kauto! Very little in it imo,but if i had to back someone id go hardy, better all round game and very under rated boxing.
Report comeonkautostar January 23, 2010 7:37 PM GMT
Daley has 19 KO's from his 23 wins.

Hardy has 12 KO's from his 23 wins.

In the UFC Hardy has beat the mighty Gono and Davis by split decisions without really threatening a stoppage. He had Swick, a guy Chris Leben has KO'ed, in trouble twice and couldnt finish him.

In the UFC Daley has KO'ed Kampmann and Hazelett - both couldnt even get him to the third minute let alone the third round.

Daley would hurt Hardy. A lot.
Report mehmet j mook January 24, 2010 9:38 AM GMT
not all about knock outs! I love both these guys but i think hardy is the better all round fighter,as for swick being beat by leben i think even me and you will agree that he has improved a hell of a lot since then and was in line for a title shot till hardy took him apart.

As for there opponents,i really dont rate Kampmann,he recently got tagged numerous time by the rubbisher Volkmann and neary lost that fight and as for Hazelett id say swick is a better fighter.

When Hardy was given the title shot Semtex hadnt even had a fight in the ufc,a few eye brows would have been raised had Daleys debut in the ufc been a title shot.
Report mehmet j mook January 24, 2010 9:41 AM GMT
out of interest who would you have given the title shot too?
Report sol_dave January 24, 2010 6:08 PM GMT
spot on mehmet Hardy is a better all rounder for sure
Report comeonkautostar January 25, 2010 4:28 PM GMT
Title shot at 170? Its not easy, as all the top welterweights have already had their chance and been beaten by the champ, but there are still more worthy opponents than Hardy.

Personally, Id set up Penn vs GSP III for the 170 title in BJ's hometown. Penn has dramatically improved his conditioning since he was decimated last time. And that was the main thing that stopped him being competitive. Their first fight was extremely close to call. Penn has a new found appetite. He's been superb his last two fights. There is not one LW in the world that could beat him. I'd back him to beat every other WW bar GSP.

Fitch is hard to deny. He 19 and 1 in his last 20 fights - 12 of which were in the UFC. His one defeat was to GSP. But it was some 18 months ago and he has improved since then. Some would question that because he isnt finishing fights, but GSP isnt really finishing fights anymore since he changed his base from Karate/Muay Thai to Wrestling/GnP after Serra caught him. Fitch has beaten Sanchez, beaten Alves (who he fights again soon) and beaten Thiago. Him and Koscheck won't fight each other as they are AKA teammates, but Thiago beat Kos. Alves has improved since he beat him and that will be a hard one to call. I rate Fitch and Alves 2nd and 3rd best WW's in the world. Im not suggesting Fitch would beat GSP, but the point is he would be more deserving of a shot at the champ.

Also, its not true to say Daley hadnt fought in the UFC when Hardy/GSP was announced. Hardy/GSP was announced after UFC 105. Daley fought at UFC 103. Kampmann was meant to fight Swick in a number one contenders fight. It didnt happen because one got injured. Then Daley impressively put away one of them while Hardy beat the other.
Report mehmet j mook January 25, 2010 7:05 PM GMT
shouldnt get a title shot after 1 fight against an over rated fighter no matter how you look at it. I wouldnt want to see gsp fight fitch again and im sure plenty of others feel the same. Be boring if the same people just kept getting title shots over and over again,i bet gsp would get bored beating the same poeple over and over again,im sure the paying fans would get bored of that too.
Report comeonkautostar January 25, 2010 9:52 PM GMT
Really? People didnt get too bored watching Tito beat on Ken Shamrock time and again. And there wasnt even a title involved then. Or Siva vs Franklin again. Or Wanderlei vs Rampage in Japan again. Or Fedor vs Minotauro again. Etc etc etc. All were one sided. All rematches were huge. Fitch has only had one fight vs GSP and it was a while ago.

And as I said, BJ would be my first choice. I bet that fight would sell. Especially on the first card in Hawaii. And Id bet BJ would demolish Hardy at 170.

Hardy isnt worthy. Kos, as much as I don't like him, is more deserving. At least he's fought top 10 guys nearly everytime. Whereas Hardy has fought Gono. Released from the UFC. He has fought Markham. Not even top 25. And he fought Davis. Not top 20. He has beaten one guy of note - Swick. But if you think Kampmann is overrated, then Swick must be too. Because they are pretty much the same standard, they havent beaten anyone big. The difference being, Daley destroyed Kampmann, whereas Hardy beat Swick on points.
Report mehmet j mook January 26, 2010 6:52 PM GMT
the difference is Daley had fought ONCE in the ufc when the hardy fight was anounced! Not going to give him a title shot straight away!!!!!!! Also just because you say that daley would beat hardy doesnt mean its true, other people have opinions aswell and if the day comes where they fight and semtex beats him i will hold my hand up and say i was wrong, till that happens im not going to agree with you.

Kos didnt deserve a title shot at the time it was anounced,he got ktfo by an average thiago and beaten easily by alves, since then he has beaten a contender in johnson so he is in a position for a shot but he will get ko'd by semtex so he wont get one again.

Once again im alowed an opinion and i would get very very bored of fitch and alves getting title shots, especially fitch over and over again and getting beat over and over again. Hardy can only beat whats in front of him and he has done that, when if i remember rightly alot of people were saying he would get beat.
Report mehmet j mook January 26, 2010 6:57 PM GMT
thats my opinion so we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
Report comeonkautostar January 29, 2010 11:28 AM GMT
Anderson Silva had only fought once in the UFC when he got his title shot. Lesnar twice.

Point is Hardy has beaten mugs bar Swick and should have fought in a number one contenders match before GSP. But if that happened he'd get beaten. Are you telling me you'd back Hardy at evens vs Fitch/Alves/Kos? I know where my money would be.

But as you say, each to their own.
Report mehmet j mook January 29, 2010 4:29 PM GMT
i wouldnt back fitch over hardy and i wouldnt be backing kos either but i do think alves would beat hardy but he has had his title shot and not fought since. No one in there right mind would give semtex a shot at the title after 1 fight in the ufc he isnt as big a name as anderson and not as marketable as brock, dont care what anyone says, semtex didnt deserve a shot at the title at that point.
Report comeonkautostar January 29, 2010 5:10 PM GMT
Put it like this, Semtex has been far more impressive in his 2 fights for the UFC than Hardy has in his 4 fights for the UFC.

Time will tell who ends up the better. ;-)

Em...im one of these spoilt MMA fans Dana b1tches about all the time. Never happy with a card unless there are two titles on the line and Anderson Silva is fighting. :^0

Never look forward to a card or think I'll enjoy it as much as I do. One of the great things about the sport, never fails to surprise me.

Looking forward to seeing Nate and Maia, love submission machines like him. Not too hot on the main event or Swick/Thiago - have a feeling it will be boring. I wish Serra was as good inside the Octagon as he is outside it. Annoyed he didnt beat Hughes. I like Serra, and I like Trigg. He comes to fight and he talks sh1t before, but in a good way, and is respectful after. Hopefully that will be exciting.

Will be having my biggest bet on a prelim fight. Chris Tuch is a SURT to beat Tim 7secs Hague.

My money is on the terror,he is gona ko trigg early on.

I've seen the both of them a few times. Hardy's skill set is far more advanced at this stage. Daley is basically just riding his luck with his punching power. I think Hardy would take him apart.

semtex at 2/1

tis value
Report comeonkautostar March 8, 2010 6:16 PM GMT
Hmmm..........depends on Kos. I think he will stand and bang - and that makes 2/1 on Semtex HUGE.

But I'd eat up all the 1.5 on Kos if I knew he was going in to use his wrestling to take Daley down over and over. Daley claims he has an immense sprawl, but we've yet to see it (not his fault) Then Kos would win via late TKO (GnP) or UD.
Report mehmet j mook March 8, 2010 6:19 PM GMT
we all know kos's ego will make him stand and bang though. Kos is the better fighter, shame he is such a pr1ck.
Report baxter152 March 8, 2010 8:16 PM GMT
I hope Kos does decide to stand and trade with Semtex as i will love watching Daley tee off with some huge bombs on Koscheck and knock him spark out.
Report comeonkautostar March 11, 2010 3:12 PM GMT
2/1 would be huge in the standup
