Even if they got the first down a TD wasn't a given. Too early to be playing catch-up. Would of been 100% the right call if they got the first down of course.

Just watched last night's game (backed the Saints and went to bed :( )
Don't you just love it when the refs blow the whistle when they shouldn't have. There was that game a few weeks ago when the Patriots scored a long TD except they didn't because the sideline official had whistled for no reason whatsoever (and they still got the call wrong because the whistle came before the catch). So another shambles last night - Lions RB fumbled but whistled down immediately (and wrongly since the ball came out before he was down). Saints challenge. I'm thinking, well, that's a challenge they can't win. In fact I'm fairly sure inadvertent whistles are not even reviewable. But sure enough the replay officials give the ball to the Saints The ball was recovered well after the whistle was clearly blown (in fact the Lions didn't even bother trying to recover) - and as soon as the whistle goes, the play is dead so the recovery never "happened". Tarricco and Gruden didn't mention it, the Lions didn't argue so maybe I've missed something but it seems just the same as this play earlier in the season. http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2015/10/4/9451389/arizona-cardinals-fumble-recovery-referee-whistle-reversed-st-louis-rams |
