I'm wondering now if I have been too kind in saying the Seahawks are the 4th best team in the NFC? We know the Packers are better (far better) and the Cowboys are better (far better) and Arizona, when they are not playing QBs signed off the street, are better. I'd say the Lions are better too. Prob even the Eagles. So maybe the 6th best team in the NFC is more realistic.

The only reason the Seahawks are here is a) shocking play calling and decision making from the Packers in the championship game and b) Arizona's severe injury problems that allowed the Seahawks to catch them in the division (they wouldn't have otherwise).

Let's go back to the championship game. The Packers weren't just better. They were miles better. Green Bay played the game as if the result was never in doubt. Once they got ahead they believed there was no way Seattle could come back at them.
And where was this great Seattle D everyone talks about? They got absolutely no pressure whatsoever on a Gimpy Rodgers. And the Packers moved the ball easily and ran it right up their gut and smacked them in the chops. Great defense my backside.

And there is better......the Patriots offence matches up are far better against this Seahawks D than the Packers. Strong, powerful running game, with numerous receiving threats for Brady to spread out their defense. Patriots excel at short, quick throws over the middle.....and everyone knows that is Seattle's weakness. How on earth are they going to stop this. Drop Thomas into the middle from Safety? Could do but who this guards the Gronk? If they play man on man against The Gronk they will get burned all day long.

So, add in the fact that thomas and Sherman are banged up,  Maxwell against the Panthers didn't look great and now Chancellor has hurt himself in training. These guys are the strength of the team

But the Pats are not a great deep ball threat so it negates the strength of the Seahawks. The Pats are a massive threat over the middle and the Seahawks are going to have a nightmare trying to stop Brady and Co moving the ball.

Now, Seattle's offense. Just how bad is it? No Tate, Harvin or Zack Millar from last year. Or even Richardson from a few weeks ago. Revis is going to have a field day against this lot.
Lynch is a huge threat. But thankfully the Pats run defense is one of the best with big Vince in the middle. So Lynch and you stop Seattle. That will be the Pats mantra and who can disagree with it.

And what about Russell Wilson? What a c**t of a person. Crying like a baby after the Packers game, saying it was God that helped them win!!! So Russell, does God hate Green Bay's guts then using your logic? What a pathetic little tw*t

I'm stunned this is a pick em, can see it being a blowout in favour of the Patriots

All in on the Patriots MONEYLINE
Plus back them to win by 14, 10, 7 and 3

Clay let's his hatred for the Seahwaks impair his judgement as usual......

Newsflash, the Packers were not better than the Seahawks in the C'ship game. If they were, they would have come up with more than 22pts.
The Seahawks gifted them many turnovers in their own half, and it was embarrassing watching the Packers trying to score from the 1 yard line.
That Seahawks defense was OUTSTANDING against the Packers. They may have pushed them around to get into scoring position, but when it was MONEYTIME the yellow Packers were manhandled at the goal line.

And as for Russell Wilson. A true football fan could only admire the guy. 5'11 and nobody wanted him, and look where he is now. On the verge of winning back to back Superbowls. The way he extends plays is exciting, and his 3rd & 19 completion against the Packers from inside the pocket was great tv, even better was the 2pt hail mary conversion at the end.

The only pathetic, little **** round here is YOU, Davis. Give credit where it is due. The Seahawks are a GREAT team. Coping with injuries is what the NFL is about. It's next man up. Too bad the Cardinals & Eagles roster couldn't cope with the injuries.

The Patriots may beat them, seeing as the Seahawks are carrying a few injuries, and if they do, good luck to them. But I'll be cheering the Seahawks on even more now that I read your usual, pathetic, tripe NFL write-up. I'm amazed you still have the audacity to post on here, after your laughable Super Bowl 48 write-up about the Seahawks.....

Nice to see the Clay's government cheque has arrived so he can go all in.  Again.  Yawn.

The betting line was set by people and software that has has a million times more football knowledge then Clay has, and that line has held in place for 2 weeks by bettors that have way more football knowledge then Clay will ever have,  yet Clay can say with certainty that the game will be a New England blowout.  I think Clay was the one sucking all the air out of the New England balls, or maybe he's been spending too much time at White Heart Lane praying to God for a Champion's League spot.

New England knows how to beat Seattle.  Green Bay gave them the blueprint, and Belicheater had 2 weeks to study the game films.  But, Seattle also has studied the films, and they know how Green Bay were all over them.  So, Seattle knows what New England knows about them.  Also, Seattle isn't going to cough up the football like they did against GB.

I can see nothing wrong with the betting line.  The man knows.  Usually, defence beats offense.  Betfair is a trading site and I don't care who wins, so I think the prudent thing to do is watch the game, see how it's going, then jump in when things looks obvious.

I see people have resorted to personal abuse rather than disagree with my analysis of Pats having too many weapons.
Seahawks weaknesses is over the middle. The Patriots strength is short, quick passes over the middle.
How do seahawks stop the Patriots moving the ball?
Remember Cam Newton hit 25+ first downs against Seattle in the Divisional round.
Both Carolina and Green Bay moved the ball with ease against this defense
Anyone thinking the Pats won't move the ball comfortably know nothing about this game
Do the Seahawks play one on one with The Gronk? Huge error if they do

I have 3 hopes for this years Super Bowl

3. I hope Brady gets a 4th ring cementing his legacy as a top 10 all time great QB

2. I hope to see the most "bad ass" military flyover ever.

1. And most importantly I REALLY REALLY hope this will be a good contest after last years debacle.

Good luck with your bets Clay Davis and everyone else. I don't know who will win and am putting a small wager on Gronk and Edelman to be the MVP.

Katy Perry makes the HT show watchable for the first time since, well, this is the first time it's been watchable!

I normally hate her type of performer but she grew on me on College Gameday and she's hot!

On NE @ 4-1 a while ago, and also to score over 23.5. Teams are moving the ball on Seattle, 3 TD's and a FG in perfect conditions should not be too much. Pats scoring about 40 PPG this post season. Around 30 PPG in the regular season.

It's a game I don't want to call a winner really, I don't want to go against NE or Seattle. Gonna trade the game instead, I think it will be back and forth.

Michael Jackson I thought was good but that was 20 years ago and of course I might remember it being better than it was because Dallas were trashing the Bills. I can't understand why they play rock and roll songs in between downs but never get AC/Dc or Metallica or someone to perform.

I hope New England do it for you Dirk. With Edelman or Gronk scoring all of the TD's for selfish reasons.

Report DirkDiggler February 1, 2015 4:04 PM GMT
Yeah they should definitely have Metallica or AC/DC perform, don't think they're likely though. I can't stand NE to be honest much rather Seattle won, but obviously money trumps sentiment as a gambler!

Pleased i'm on ante-post. Might well do a Gronk prop of some sort.

Do you bet baseball Texas? Dodger fan myself. Really looking forward the season, I like the daily involvement of it. NBA is pretty much daily but it leaves me cold, I don't trust it either. The run to opening day from the SB is a real bore. Worst time of the betting year for me, that said it's a bit of a break. so tired and bored with soccer.  I'll bet Rugby Union 6 nations, and the Cheltenham (March) and Aintree (early April) festivals and that's pretty much it.

Then into baseball after watching for a couple of weeks.

Seattle's defense were outsatnding against Green Bay.
Look at the starting point of Green bay's 2nd, 3rd & 5th drives in the game.
SEA 19 yard line (FG)
SEA 23 yard line (FG)
SEA 33 yard line (FG)

Green Bay never had another drive starting in Seattle territory, result? INT, Punt, Punt, Punt, FG, Punt, Punt, FG.

That is some effort from the SEA defense with their offense putting them in the s**t.

Yes I like betting Baseball, I expect this year that the Red Sox, the White Sox and the Cubs to have a huge improvement on last season. I will be looking to bet those teams on money and run lines  early in the season. (depending on the odds though, oddsmakers and layers might realise early that these teams are much better than before)

I wouldn't mind seeing an LA Dodgers World Series appearance, Kershaw, Ryu, Greinke, Puig and Crawford amongst others Deserve it. I'm not looking forward to seeing how Texas Rangers play this season, trading away Kinsler for Prince Fielder was the worst move of 2014 and could well end up being one of the worst moves of all time IMO, I hope I'm wrong though.

Report CJ February 1, 2015 6:53 PM GMT
It was more McCarty's conservative approach that put them in the ****, trying to run the clock and protect what they'd built (probably even protect Rodgers) , putting the hawks back deep at every opportunity by punting seemingly confident that Seattle couldn't hurt them offensively because up until that point they couldn't.

GB have struggled close to the line all season. Seattle did nothing extraordinary which hadn't already been done before to GB close to the goal line this season, believe me. Seattle didn't give up, and GB choked. That's all it took. It might be hard on Seattle, but i thought they were outplayed for 90% of that game on both sides of the ball.

As I pointed out the Pats would kill them with short, quick passes and they killed them with it. Moved the ball with ease

The decision in the last play was brain dead, they were mightily lucky even to have been on the goal line, but what about the two decisions to leave a linebacker on the Gronk on two massive plays? Brady's eyes lit out

it was a single possession game win that seattle really should have, at the very least, taken the lead in late on.
i would agree NE were marginally better overall but Seattle have huge heart and had a lot of banged up players struggling to stay in the game.
History shows how tough it is to back up a superbowl win & plenty teams fail to even make the play offs the following season so despite the loss making another final game is pretty impressive.
Report Swardean February 2, 2015 2:18 PM GMT
You also pointed out that Seattle has a woeful offence (yet they got more yards that NE).

You said, the the NE defence would stop the seattle run game (it couldnt)

You said that NE would be able to run the ball with ease (they couldn't)

It came down Tom Brady's superhuman effort in the 4th quarter and even then, they were 1 dumb play away from getting beat.

As stated a great superbowl with two great teams (in different ways).    Lets hope they meet again next year.

Oh and thanks for the cash.....
Report ClayDavis February 2, 2015 5:32 PM GMT
I just love the Hawks' fans spit on this. One dumb play. You play with fire you are likely to get burned.

No mention at all of the fact that they fluked their way down to the five yard line in the first place

No mention of Carroll playing with fire at end of 1st half when they had 6 secs left and he went for it....it paid off and changed the game......or his fake field goal against Green Bay etc etc.....not all ballsy calls come off.....he has had enough come off to get Seattle to the super bowl in the first place.

The bitterness of Swardean can't hide the fact that I won and he lost.

The best team won. Seattle should never have been at the super bowl in the first place.......do you really wanna talk about dumb calls Swardean? Then let's talk about Mike McCarthy ffs.......and justice was done.

Let's not even discuss the non roughing the punter call in the first quarter and the dubious spot of the catch for Seattle first down when they could barely move the ball.

Swardean, I thought seattle's offence was average bar lynch and some nobody I had never heard of who was outstanding. Wilson was again poor. Look at the Seattle offence in the 4th quarter when they had to stop the Pats momentum.....garbage.......apart from a fluke catch
Report Swardean February 2, 2015 6:21 PM GMT
I am not bitter at all Clay I just wanted to redress some of the claims made in your original post.   As you know, before the start of the season I put up a thread on here stating I had backed BOTH Seattle and NE.   So I went into yesterdays game in a no lose position.

I have never claimed that seattle were unlucky or deserved to win.   The game was played fair and square and the best team won on the night.   No problem at all.

I don't think it was Wilsons fault with the lack of offence in the 4th quarter, I think they made the same mistake as GB the game before.   They had a two score lead and started to play too conservatively.

3 downs for Marshawn Lynch to get 3/4 of a yard.
Bring in the Jumbo offense, tell NE, here is what we're gonna do. They couldnt stop Lynch all night.
I'd say that Seattle team didn't sleep a wink last night.
