And the fella making that decision is supposedly getting paid $22m a yaer to make them

He is banned indefinitely now.... But the players association will get him re-instated, will any team want to take him though. Going up against the commissioner is not a good idea for any team.

Just saw the footage. Disgraceful indeed. Knocked her out cold and he should indeed be locked up. Should never grace the field again, there needs to be consequences.

I don't condone Ray Rice's actions but I find this shock and horror at the sight of a video to be highly hypocritical...Ray Rice and his wife should definitely seek professional help...There is definitely a legal case to answer (has she or will she press charges) but it does not follow that his livelihood should be taken away from him without due process of law.  The NFL had already ruled on this particular incident before the video emerged...they knew she had been knocked out...how did they think this had happen.  The video did not highlight any new facts about the case...it just showed the brutal reality of domestic violence.  Is their someone at the NFL or the Ravens who were unsure or unaware of the brutality of domestic violence?  Taking away Ray Rice's livelihood was in effect 'trial by media' and is disgustingly arrogant and should be challenged in a court of law.

Really???  His livelihood hasn't been taken away he took it away himself.  He is lucky to be not serving time and he shouldn't grace a football field again. I don't consider myself hypocritical and I agree that the NFL and the Ravens certainly made a complete hash of the incident originally.  All that being said, the full facts are out in the public domain now and there is no way he should be playing football ( although he will be able to play again eventually in the NFL )and I think he is very lucky that he is not looking at manslaughter or something more serious.  That woman could have ended up in a far more serious position than just being temporarily knocked out

How could he be done for manslaughter when he didn't kill anyone...his livelihood had been taken away from him because he is a professional football player and he has been banned indefinitely from playing football.  Your histrionic response is precisely what I am objecting to... please enlighten us with your vast knowledge of American jurisprudence and provide one example of someone who was banned from his profession for domestic violence before being convicted in court.

If you can read I said he was lucky not to end up with a manslaughter or other conviction if that savage blow he lamped onto her head had resulted in more than temporary unconsciousness, I hope that clears that up for you

My opinion is he deserves what he is getting and the savage blow he inflicted on her without warning was sickening.  I am very sorry that doesn't tally with your "poor ray rice" stance

My stance is perfectly rational unlike yours which flits from indignation to hysteria.  You may be ignorant of the concept of Double Jeopardy but it is a fundamental precept of most civilised legal systems. I don't believe that the NFL is justified in depriving Ray Rice of his right to earn a living until he is found guilty in court.  I equally believe that their response to the video is a public relations exercise to placate the "Twitter Generation" rather than a reasoned response.  The NFL had the opportunity to hand down a more severe
penalty at the time of their original decision and, for what ever reason, they decided to ban Ray Rice for two games.  Nothing new was revealed in the video.  They were perfectly aware of the fact that Janay Rice was
knocked out.  Surely they weren't under the impression that Ray Rice did that by tickling her under the chin.  What did they think happened? Why does the sight of the video change their original assessment of the act and are the legally entitled to ban Ray Rice indefinitely before he has been convicted in a court of law.

The NFL and Baltimore probably have a right to deprive Ray Wifebeater Rice a chance to make a living by playing football.  Although having no specific knowledge of his playing contract, most American pro sports contracts contain morals clauses.  I would say it is immoral of Mr. Wifebeater to knock out his wife.  I just hope all those involved have the stuff to waive goodbye to this 'man'  permanently.

I think you make some good points deeppockets. The ruling is that clear. The indefinate suspension must be lifted and Rice after being sacked by Ravens is now a free agent and I personally think that is right. I wouldn't want him in my team though and can't see anybody wanting to sign the wife beater...good ( even though I believe people need to be allowed to earn a living ). Maybe he can join Wigan if Ched Evans gets a gig there. I think it was right United turned their backs ( eventually ) on Ched Evans. I doubt any English club will want to sign him right now and maybe he will have to go abroad to ply his trade ( good for everybody ).

This also heaps pressure on Rog because everybody must have know that she was knocked out by Rice and Rice must have told him. I think he may be the next in the firing line by indignant TV Jouranlists and twitters.
