Looking forward to Seahawks vs. Saints

Really looking forward to this too started. I am strong on the seahawks here despite the injuries in defense. NO away from the dome just ain't the same team. I think the crowd noise will have a large bearing on this game also, as it will make it difficult for Brees to change calls at the line and implement correctly. I have seahawks here winning by 5 to 10 points maybe.

With all the injuries etc to Seattles' secondary i'd probably take the points.

very awkward game to bet on imo. either team could win by 10 points.

dont get me wrong im not saying its a 50/50 game. seahawks are right to be big favs. but if the saints get 7 up, seattle could struggle to get back in it and the saints could win easily. if the seahawks get 7 up, their defense could make mincemeat out of brees and then they could win easily. or it could be a low scoring tight affair. pretty much anything could happen.

I agree Bob, i'd perhaps fancy some sort of prop bet, or maybe team points, something like that and stay away from the spread.

i dont really get why both have drifted in the superbowl market. ok one has to lose, but one has to win too. and whatever the result, both will still probably win their divisions and the top 2 seeds. the result doesnt make much difference to either division. a bit, but not a significant amount. the saints still hold the tiebreak over the panthers with a defeat.

I don't think it is this match up bob more the victories by Panthers and 49ers.

Im having a little bet on the Seahawks. Its not often you get an opportunity like this to create such a high level of anxiety.

Looking forward to Monday Night Football. The Seahawks have second year phenom Russell Wilson at quarterback. He is joined in the backfield by ‘Beast Mode' Marshawn Lynch. The defense features one of the best corners in the game in Richard Sherman and the hard hitting safety, Earl Thomas.

I know I will enjoy watching these two powerhouse teams go head to head

Stats can be very valuable, but I'm short term, more for a particular team under a coach (maybe 3-4 years).

Only thing is I am generally very sceptical about "form" in general

Wallflower, I agree. Trend stats long term are pretty meaningless IMO. Stats can be extremely useful though. Here's a few I posted earlier.


Seahawks -3 for me. Seattle awesome at home, avg over 30 pts a game @ home. 12th man. Top rushing attack in NFL, against NO who is mid ranked vs the run and that's in part to do with the other team passing to keep up with Saints offense. Also NO are a different team on the road, their numbers fall off quite a way outside their home dome. Brees QB rating drops by over 30 pts on the road (122 to 89). Brees TD/INT @ home 19-3 on the road 9-6.

Seattle has the better defense and I like defense this time of year. Loss of Seattle's 2nd and 3rd best corners is bothersome, but this team is so deep, and they have perhaps the best pairing of safeties in the game. Seattle can get to the QB just rushing four and this is huge, 2nd ranked pass defense. I look at that performance in NY vs the Jets and that worries me, the Jets are awful, and they beat Saints up that day, Seattle is far better, and this is much tougher environment, the toughest in the NFL. That said, it doesn't pay to hang your hat on 1-2 performances over a season, we all know the NFL is wild and unpredictable.

Should be a great game, really looking forward to this one.


Form? in the NFL, I think scepticism is called for, its so up and down, i'm more of a 'spot' guy. For example, teams on 2nd consecutive road game, west coast teams flying east coast. Also short week, that kind of thing. Also matching up strengths and weaknesses, seems obvious but people overlook them.

Seattle pass rush getting there with 4, long day for Brees if this continues.

Agree DD, about the way individual teams match-up against each other.  Also, it seems to me that there is an over-reaction to a team's performance good or bad. E.g. Team A plays badly and loses one week, the following week its reflected in prices anticipating a trend......more often than not, there is a "positive" reaction to that loss and they play better......then people seem confused, don't know why.....its not mathematics.

Yes Hank, one team has a great defense, OSU has none, shocked they could not easily handle Michigan. Still not got over Auburn beating my Tide! Fair play to them, Bama did not deserve to win.

What do you think about the SEC champ game? I have to lean Auburn on what I have seen, and they just have that destiny feel, which I used to pooh pooh, until seeing the Ginats and Ravens teams of recent years.

Earlier in the season I thought my longhorns were going to get smoked by Baylor, but they seem to have hit a wall. They really did only just escape against a very average TCU. Should be a cracking days viewing

...Absolutely, I'm guilty of that at times. Also when a good team lets you down it's easy to get gun shy and overlook them. Then you get out of synch. I completely agree, there's far more often a positive bounce to an awful performance or bad loss than a bad one. NFL teams do not throw the towel in because they're out the race, they don't lie down, they play spoiler and they play with freedom because there's nowt to lose.

Looking at a 7-3 team playing a 4-6 team, instinctively you think 'bit of a mis-match' in reality, the talent level is much closer than that.

Look at Jax, absolute laughing stock, now a respectable bad team, TB? laughing stock, supposed mutiny, coach getting fired, they're 3-2 last 5, after being 0 and whatever.

Huge amount of Pens against Seattle this year, I think highest in league, but I think they accept this as an acceptable downside of their over physical defence style... they wont all get called, especially at home

Thankfully Brees has woke up and realised he has an absolute beast in Jimmy Graham who they are not using double coverage on. Brees should be hitting Graham all night long and tear them apart for that error of judgement

Tut, tut, Swardean, you should know better. If against a poor team I'd say yes.....but Saints are potent.....get a special teams or defensive TD things can change.

Yes Saints can get the offence going but in this noise/rain, fast scoring drives may be tough, their only score was a time sapping 8 mins.  In addition to their offence clicking, they need to find a way to stop the seahawks and that could be more difficult

I worry for the saints next week, of all teams the panthers match up similar to Seattle.

Going in to the same, the Panthers will be so up based on last 8 wins and the Saints will be fretting they may blow their division lead that looked so safe

I expect the seahawks to play a bit softer defence now and more time draining drives, will at least give saints a chance to get a bit closer (obviously without winning).

it was pretty much a re-run of when they mullered the 49ers.

saints arent the same on the road. they should be ok at home to carolina i think. wont be easy, but the panthers arent going to get to brees anywhere near as much with a nice quiet crowd to help him out. they need to avoid early mistakes though, that could wreck an already dented confidence.
