It's not often you get the chance to bet Brady and the Patriots with a field goal of a start. Tonight we get that chance against the bang on form Carolina Panthers.
Tom Brady, like Drew Brees, seems to thrive on playing on MNF. The Pats have won 10 or their last 11 games on MNF. Brady is 13-4 when playing on MNF.
Also the main reason why I'm very keen on the Pats tonight is that this will be the first time all season long that Brady will all have his weapons available to him, 10 games in. Shane Vereen returns tonight and that gives the Pats real options, especially as Ridley had such a good game last week. If the Pats' running game takes another step forward this week then Carolina are in for a long night. Brady will have so many options. The Gronk and Amendola are starting to fire now. If Vereen plays he is such a threat coming out of the backfield.
I'm a huge fan of the Panthers and they are on fire. They stepped up big time, winning away to the 49ers last weekend. But the 49ers again showed last night that they are struggling. New orleans cut swathes through the Niners D that Carolina struggled to in the 10-9 win. The Panthers have a very strong running game and a great 1-2 punch. But I believe that Pats will put Talib on Stevie Johnson and load the box to stop the running and force Cam Newton to come up with others ways to beat them. Talib is very good on one-one coverage.
The Panthers D is excellent. But this is their biggest test of the season so far. The Falcons and the Giants have been a farce so far this year so Tom Brady (please no one say Russel Wilson) will be far the best QB they will have faced this season. Last week their D stuffed the box and shut down the Niners running game and forced Kaepernick to beat them - he had no deep threat. But Brady does. Brady has deep threats, routes, slants, screens and pick play threats. No huddle, fast pace offense.
If the Pats continue their balanced offense they are going to be very hard to stop tonight. Yes they have a lot of issues on defense but do you trust Cam Newton to deliver when it really matters?
I truly believe the Panthers will have to score at least 24 points in order to prevail. Brady will want to turn this into a shootout tonight and I can assure you there will be only one winner if that is the case.
Brady and the Pats with a field goal of a start is normally a gift from the gods. Tonight is no different.

yes definitely.........obviously favour Pats...but I always operate on the basis that I don't know! Unless I see or feel strongly about a particular team's strength or weakness.

I haven't seen this match, but from what I have seen look good....on that basis, it could be down to 1 or 2 big plays (or penalty call). Couldn't take a position.

taken a lot of time off the clock with this drive.  Difference between the fg and td is huge - probably the game.  Brady gets the pats into fg range with 3 timeouts and the wind you'd think.  Different story having to get a TD to win it.
Report Wallflower November 19, 2013 4:15 AM GMT
I'm level now...and happy.....market thinks Panthers get TD, so I'm giving it to them and getting out (so I don't care either way).........I lay the first team to hit 1.12 or so.....just for the fun.

well, if you're green on both you did well, unless you expect to be right every time (ie drive).

i just try to secure a satisfactory green, and be prepared to lose a bit by backing at 10/1 plus (usually get stake back anyway by trading)
Report Only-the-Brave November 19, 2013 4:18 AM GMT
Get in!  Will go all green just in case though.  Brady more than capable with the 3 timeouts.  Think the Panthers D will get it done from here though.

I missed the whole first half because I was trading the NBA. So I came in 'cold', and just backed the NEP at 3.3 from instinct. I equal greened at 1.9, more because I wanted to secure a satisfactory win whatever happened. Perhaps I should have been more shrewd and held on, but it would have been guesswork..

While I think the Zebras, ultimately, made the right call at the end to pick up the flag with the penalty on The Gronk they showed a shocking lack of consistency. On Carolina;s winning drive, when they failed on 3rd down, they gave a flag against Cromarty for something even more dubious, with Greg Olsen having zero chance of getting anywhere near the ball. Neither were flags. But if one was then the other certain was.
The Pats must regret the first quarter and a half. Brady showed the Carolina D way too much respect early on. Once the shackles came off, Brady and the Pats shredded that D time and time again. That Pats offense is something else, is good as anything in this league when they are all fit

Sad dirk really

I'm more concerned over the shocking calls each week to ALL the teams from the Refs who can not get the most simple calls right even when there appears to be 500 of them on the field and sidelines.

The worse thing about the finish to the end of the Panthers game was the fact they simply ran off the field as fast as there little legs could carry them instead of doing what they are paid to do , namely inform the paying public and the two teams exactly WHY they have picked up the flag and not called the penalty which is what they would have done if it had been in the 2nd Q

Your hate of Brady and all things Patriots should not get in the way of the fact that year on year there are calls which border on plain cheating by the NFL and the Refs against some clubs.

Breese is another example , the guy will draw a penalty no matter what happens to him , the Refs can not wait to throw there feckin stupid little yellow hankies , the same hit against a Ponder or a Weedon and especially against a Vick would not draw sweet FA.
Report DirkDiggler November 22, 2013 1:00 AM GMT
No, you're whining about a call that for once went against NE. No-one gets protection from the refs like NFL sacred cow St.Tom Brady.
Report DirkDiggler November 22, 2013 1:09 AM GMT
It wasn't even a penalty, and it was a horrible throw from Brady.
Report The Priest November 22, 2013 8:02 PM GMT
Dirk to repeat what i posted about the call

"The worse thing about the finish to the end of the Panthers game was the fact they simply ran off the field as fast as there little legs could carry them instead of doing what they are paid to do , namely inform the paying public and the two teams exactly WHY they have picked up the flag and not called the penalty which is what they would have done if it had been in the 2nd Q"

Never once if you read it , not once , did i ever mention whether or not I agreed it was a penalty in the first place.

I don't profess to knows the rules inside out but reading a lot of experts on the NFL sites the holding on Gronk was 'textbook' PI , the throw was underhit BUT as most experts agreed , take away the bearhug and Gronk would have had a good chance to get forward and attempt the catch.

Uncatchable throw is usually only ever given when the ball is thrown 30ft above a receiver's head normally , never when it is thrown within 8ft of a receiver frontage and no way would it be called uncatchable if the receiver is been held in a bear hug.

But it was given and we must accept that , read what i said again and i said the worst part was the Refs running off the pitch like Usain Bolt instead of doing what they always do and that is explain to the thousands present WHY they have made the decision to go against one of there judges.

I also said 'some clubs' seem to get bad calls time and time again each season never mentioned the Pats.

Michael Vick is probably one of the worst treated QB's in history (and he doesn't play for the Pats before you start) , time and time again we see hits on him , whether he's in the pocket or on the run , whether he's sliding or plain getting sacked that would draw huge penalties for any of the other QB's but the Refs never want to protect him , they have blatantly got an agenda against Vick and don't even pretend to try to hide it , I can see that with my own eyes and I don't even follow the Eagles.  That was the point I was trying to make re the hits on Breese etc that other QB's don't get the same level of protection , the Refs are so biased in NFL it's obscene really , yes I love the sport more than any other but it still doesn't stop me from expressing my opinion.
