Like under 5.5 in games at NJ and St Louis tonight.

The trade of Moulsen and high picks for Vanek looks the strangest I have seen in years in the NHL.  Is he even better or does he have more potential (Vanek that is)?  Tavares played so well with Moulsen - can't help but thinking the Isles have finally dug themselves out of a hole but fallen into a crater - really big game tonight and Isles should be looking to beat Rangers but I have my doubts - won't be betting

good call on the unders drew, was close in both though!
Report drewboy October 30, 2013 1:12 PM GMT
Never in much doubt in NJ to be fair gonesleeping....and only the usual last-minute will-they-won't-they in St Louis after the late winner.

I watched Isles/Rangers and game panned out as I feared it might.  Rangers won despite offering very little - the worrying thing for Islanders is every time one of theirs goes to the box they look like conceding.  Some are saying they need to bolster defence, other say keeper, but I'd say both.  Unless Vanek hits it off quickly with JT the Moulson trade will be a spectacular own goal.

Calgary finally look to be making a fortress of Saddledome (well kind of....4 games) but all that said they show decent forward power game by game and may just be value at evs to beat Toronto tonight.

Buffalo are embarrassing - and anyone that loses to this lot in the next couple of weeks needs to take a look at themselves.  If I were Miller (or Enroth) I'd take up bricklaying...or the priesthood

Loads of opportunities tonight.......

Under 5.5 looks very good in Washington and Ottawa (where I'd have thought Habs would be shorter)

Rangers look a touch of value - should be in great heart after last night and Columbus were pretty abject last time and confidence is thin with a run of home losses.  Last season's trades add some spice to this but happy to take odds against.  Good luck

Can see NJ pulling off an upset in a tight game in Toronto at a meaty price but any slight odds against Nashville is worth taking against Winnipeg.  The Jets look confused as to how they should be going about things just now - and maybe have a keeper crisis in the offing?  Nashville have hit goal-scoring form against 3 good teams and probably won't have to be all out to win tonight

Nice to have an NHL game at a reasonable hour and a decent match up up at 6pm between Oilers @ Flyers.  Philadelphia are favourites with the bookies but I think this is all wrong.  Both teams struggling but I think the younger and hungrier team are Edmonton. Perron coming back is a huge plus and I think they will edge this is a high scoring gaming.  At odds against they are a strong bet.

Very tricky tonight - all of these to small stakes....

Montreal -1.5 against Islanders.  I believe Poulin starts but Islanders are having trouble keeping it out whoever goes between the pipes and their penalty kill is just horrible.
Expecting a fast fiery game in Winnipeg - risking over 5.5 at odds against, but going under 5.5 in Chicago - expecting Hawks to have too much and just keep Oilers at arms length

I am however going with a bleedin obvious treble.....Kings at hopeless Buffalo, Avalanche at a Carolina side that were outplayed last time against Minnesota and were fortunate to get a point, and St Louis at home to Phoenix who's good luck should run out at a very tough rink.  Particularly taken with the win ratio in W vs E games - and tonight we have 2 of the West's best at 2 of the East's poorest.

Also going to have a go at over 5.5 in Detroit....hoping for another crazed performance from Winnipeg!!

Bet of the season so far tonight where Toronto are a huge 4/5 on ML to win in Buffalo.  Sabres win was almost entirely down to Miller and was their 1st in 10 attempts at home....and needed a shootout to win that one.  Toronto are missing a couple of key forwards, but it seems the main reason Toronto are so big is a coaching change in Buffalo.  Not sure that playing demoralised players out of positions will improve their performance though.  Leafs have dropped last 2 in close games against hot teams.  They should be raring to go tonight.

Really like rock solid Boston at Ottawa as well - the home crowd are very close to getting on their players backs after recent showings.

Still haven't erased a 9-8 that I witnessed a while ago between Phili and Winnipeg.  Reckon they'll knock 6 or more in tonight between them

2 of most interest tonight for me are NJ against Winnipeg at 4/5 and the game in St Louis to be under 5.  Devils are quietly rolling and their stats are skewed as this will be only their 9th start at The Rock.  Brodeur looks somewhere near the top of his game and for whatever reason i can't have Pavelec (who plays too often anyway).  If Jets score more than once I'd be disappointed.

Both teams are going great guns in the game in St Louis - arguably the game of the night Devil - can only see it being tight and as well as under 5 may have a go at under 3.5 at about 3/1.

Good Luck

A few which look good tonight which should set alarm bells ringing!!!!!!!

Before Florida's win against Phili the other night which had 4 goals their previous 11 games had at least 5 goals (admittedly 8 of these were exactly 5).  Ok, so tonight its the boring, miserly Rangers....but how miserly are they?  7 of 12 Rangers games have got to 5 and 4 have cleared that mark in November.  Very surprised to see the line set at 5 for this one, happy to take 10/11 it will be over 5 and the 2.6ish on here to be over 5.5 is tempting.

The Isles/Jets game also looks full of goals - Isles will come out firing tonight in a bid to get out of their rut and will be far livelier than the sleepy dross put up by NJ last time.  Islanders simply look a disorganised mess in defence,  going for over 5.5.

Another goal-line surprise in Colorado where things look tight - going under 5.5 (thought 5 would be nearer the mark) and lastly Washington to beat Ottawa in 60 at odds against.

Phew Grin

Looking to the game in Ottawa to provide enough goals tonight.  Bit of a critical game for both teams, both fancied their chances in the off-season but have failed to deliver - the cards dropping all wrong for the Sens as their division is proving much the stronger in the East.  Phili seem to be in denial as to how poor they have been, but the tightness (inferiority?) of their division means they are well in the hunt.  Expecting a big push early from Sens but they leak too many and Anderson is showing that last year may have been one of over-achievement?

Over 5.5 at about 6/5
Report drewboy December 10, 2013 9:57 PM GMT
Another bumper Tuesday with some great match-ups tonight.

Getting boring to keep picking on Buffalo but they stink the place out so lets continue - Ottawa had a massive win last night, including (I think?) their first SO goal of the year.  Early word is that Sabres are trying brand new lines again - but it is obvious that these players are not top drawer and will lose over time, whichever order they jumbled up in.  Sens will be all out to close the gap on the top 3 and have to be the night's best bet.

Going to stick my neck out and (tentatively) start to oppose the season's surprise package Colorado.  Tonight the never-say-die Coyotes are in town and are taken to leave with the points - hoping to be a step ahead of the books here - Aves will be looking at schedule thinking next 6 or 7 are crucial as it gets tougher afterwards - hoping they will be reeling in the new year.

Finally NY Isles record is awful lately but they showed enough signs of life last night to suggest they can give San Jose a game.  Taking the view that once Isles are really put under the cosh they collapse - but at the prices taking Sharks slump to continue and Isles to skip clear.  Very spotingly priced at > 4/1 to win in 60

Good Luck

WD on your win the other night drewboy,

I agree with the first 2 picks, i think buffalo are just done for and really need something to click right soon.
Colorado seemed to be a bit burnt out after a flyer of a start aswell so i like the coyotes too.

The islanders though i seem to never get right, i watched them last night against the ducks and they played well up to half way then just crumbled so i reckon the sharks will win tonight and probably in 60, they can't keep loosing surely.

Anyway my picks tonight are, Columbus Bluejackets  and St. Louis in a moneyline double.

Columbus decent at home and played well last night whilst the Devils are a bit rocky and St.Louis are decent home or away and have been a bit unlucky recently.

Do you ever look at stats to decide your picks drewboy?

Well done rmc, and you are not alone in not having seen that coming in Montreal Swardean!!

I can't see how anyone can bet on hockey without using stats rmc, in answer to your question.  Obviously the most important thing is to watch as much as you can - there possibly is no sport like hockey where you can go through spells of playing well but not winning and vice vesra, and if you haven't actually watched these games then highlights can't do them justice.  I'm personally not totally dogmatic and have been fortunate enough to realise that Buffalo were poor early in the season for instance.  Another example from last year would be if anyone was lucky enough to foresee that Bobrovsky would turn up in Columbus and play like ten men!!

All that said the shootout curse bites again for Ottawa, and after a decent run for the money the Isles needed more time to see off San Jose who will surely turn it around soon.  Isles still hopeless penalty killers and this does not look like turning around soon.

Good luck

Just watched the highlights through and what impressed most about Jones was his ability to stand still!!  Poulin gets the win for Isles but probably skated 5 miles in the game!  Love to see a netminder who is confident that he doesn't need to be showing histrionics to demonstrate how well he is playing......although strangely Price is the one that generally behaves this way!

Has to be Anaheim later on (my first bet in a game involving Minnesota in many weeks - if not this season?).

It could be argued that Anaheim are the best in the NHL just now.  2nd in league overall but already 20 road games under their belt - and an amazing home record.  Of 13 at home 11 wins and 2 defeats (one a SO the other OT).  So laying the visitors, any visitors, has won every time in 60 minute market.

Minnesota's away record is so-so, and to be fair their overall record suggests they can get up for big games, but I'm going to be greedy and really take them on tonight.  Anaheim have won 8 of their 13 at home by more than one and with recent big wins under their belt the 9/4 looks to big for Ducks to beat the spread.

Think Penguins will be up to snuffing out Devils tonight and under 5 looks the call at evs.  See a similar scenario in Vancouver where the tougher division seems to have finally dawned on the Cannucks - results are needed in a hurry.  Think Vancouver will really squeeze the Oilers who will be playing for 3rd time in 4 days.  Under 5.5 looks fairly safe Shocked

Good luck

Totally out of jail in Pittsburgh last night but thats the game and happy to get some luck.......

Some very welcome early starts and two of them have good opportunities.  On principal Calgary must be backed at awful Buffalo who are somehow favourites - albeit only just.  The Flames have such a hard job getting wins in their ultra competitive division/conference but have a fair record against the East, 6-3-2.  Buffalo have very little to recommend them, 2-9 against west and 4 home wins all season.  Given that 4 of Sabres 7 wins have come in shootouts it is tempting to back Calgary in 60, but at slight odds against it Calgary ML.

Would love to see Jones start again tonight for LA to watch a full performance.  He looks like a monster!  Even if its Scrivens though LA look like they can put up a wall and this game in Ottawa looks banker under material.

Calgary ML
Under 5.5 goals in Ottawa

Good luck

No harm done - both teams as bad as each other tbf in Buffalo but Calgary pull through in OT.

As I was watching the game in Buffalo didn't see why Anderson left the game (Ott/LA) after less than 5 minutes but he had already let 2 in and I suppose in hindsight unders wasn't such a good idea when a powerhouse team comes up against a flimsy stopper.

Plenty more to go at later but nothing jumps out.  Suspect Isles will be glad to be home but just leak too many to contemplate a bet.  Suspect Chicago will overwhelm Leafs but price is mighty skinny.  Going for a lively outsider in Carolina, would also have taken on St Louis with Columbus but a goalie having his first start in 3 years tempers enthusiasm.

Good Luck

Carolina Love

Off out for the evening so will miss the early games - and probably the late ones too if I get enough ale!

Can see goals at a premium in the games in New York and Detroit.  Can only see Edmonton getting another pasting tonight but again going under the line as I can't really see Oilers getting close enough.

So its Under 5.5 at Detroit/NY/Anaheim.

Trying to leave BFL alone but cannot for the life of me understand Jacksonville's price tio beat Buffalo (watched Bills last week - dreadful).  Can someone talk me out of a big bet?

Good luck

Drew, Its the fact that MJD is highly unlikely to play for the Jags.   Half the side without him.

Message was too late to save me Swardean Cry and a pal text me while I was out to say 'I wouldn't watch the highlights if I were you'

Hockey is keeping my ship afloat though.  Looking forward to the crammed fixture schedule ahead of Sochi.  Two of the favourites look very strong tonight - Pittsburgh on a great roll just now and very tough at home against struggling Toronto who are finding life hard away from home, and St Louis also going well against Sens who are being undone by slow starts.  St Louis also have a great record against East.

Main bet will be over 5.5 later in Colorado where Dallas may well cause an upset.

Good Luck

Right for wrong reasons with main pick last night - keeps things ticking along.....

Winnipeg to win in Buffalo (Broken record, sorry)
Over 5.5 goals in Nashville
Under 5.5 goals in Boston

Good luck

Loads of games tonight but so many are trappy.  Don't think Florida have much to fear in their trip to Ottawa tonight.  Panthers are playing best they have all season and will enjoy playing in front of a crowd, hopefully a disgruntled one!

The best of the night for me is Vancouver.  Dallas are fragile and seem to score and concede in clumps.  if Vancouver can throttle the stars early I can see this being one sided.  Canucks rate a good bet

Good luck

My attention is starting to switch to the hockey now the NFL is drawing to a climax.   Hoping to build the funds for the superbowl tonight by betting Ottawa at Odds against M/L.  Price is wrong IMO.

Senators really need to push for the playoff now and I have been impressed by recent performances.  I dont feel the same about Toronto who despite winning  had looked in a a bit of a rut.  Happy to take the underdog in this fierce (and always a great viewing) derby clash

Goals look thin on the ground tonight, 4 of the games look like real low scorers so selling total for the 7 matches at 38.5 looks tempting.

Main bet for me is under 5.5 in SJ at 8/11.  Watched Phili stroll past LA (who do seem to struggle for goals at times in fairness), and 13 of last 14 SJ games have been 5 or less - they have been shut out a few times as well.

Good luck

If last night's highlights reel from Vancouver is anything to go by I wouldn't have a season ticket there for a gold pig!
