really enjoy reading your tips each night orioles, the more and more i bet on baseball ( which is alot! ) the more i believe not to look at the price of the team you fancy to win. if you fancy them, back them irrespective of the price - unless they're stupidly short.

Have look at my blog, JB (not so much for the picks lol) I try to give a sense of how to look at a game.

That's an interesting read. If I'm honest, I'm surprised that backing unders / overs is something that can be profitable long term. Particularly when backing unders as one swing of the bat can add 4 runs to the score.

I place alot ( probably too much ) emphasis on the pitchers, and apart from the odd blowout ( last night for example ) i do quite well.

i'm a phillies fan and opposing them this season has been rather profitable

The pitchers are the key, as you say. You can get as complex as you like with a game like baseball, because there are stats for almost every element of the game. However, baseball really is an 'anything can happen' game, so trying to read a game in too much detail is a ticket to the madhouse.

Interestingly, many experienced baseball bettors believe that betting the total is the easiest bet.

The Phillies have killed me this season

to be fair to the phils, losing utley and howard is huge. But the bookies see Halladay or Lee on the mound and instantly the phils are 1/2 - 2/5 to win the game. The only time I back the Phils with any confidence is when Hamels is on the mound.

I like the look of Unders in The yanks game and unders in the Tigers game, what do you think of these Uncle O?

Well, I've put a lot of bookies' kids through college on both sides of the Atlantic over the last 25 years betting on baseball

Unders Braves/Yankees looks interesting. Yankee Stadium has been less of a hitters' park this year and yet the Yankees have hit most HR and rank 7th in MLB in runs scored. Neither team is hitting the hide off it L5.

My reservations would be Hudson's form on the road, the streak the Yankees are on (they won't be shy at the plate) and Greg Gibson behind home. At just a shade over Evens though, it's a fair bet.

Unders Cards/Tigers is almost an automatic Unders bet. As soon as I see a low line, I like to go Under unless there's a really good reason not to. These lines are invariably Overs bets for the herd and they're always worth opposing.

Lance Lynn is on fire and Verlander is Verlander. My only reservation? The Cards have hit Verlander in the past (the 5 in the lineup tonight hit him at a .477 clip) but it's a small sample size and happened a while ago. Again, the price looks fair.

Not a huge fan of the 5 inning bets. Kelly has the better numbers, no doubt, but does occasionally have control issues and can put too many on. He did that early in his last outing, which makes the bet vulnerable.

Slightly worried that Wood's last start wasn't great, but the Cubs do look the bet.

Washington look short here with Ross Detwiler on the mound. A 1.50 WHIP L3 isn't reassuring. However, the Cubs are on a four game slide (I like betting losing streaks most of all) so it's not a dud bet, I just don't like the price.

orioles about LA-TEX :These pitchers have horrible numbers and pitching in Arlington this could be a cricket score. When I say horrible, I mean 3.00/16.00 WHIP/ERA for Santana and 1.44/5.94 for Oswalt. This has pushed the Totals out to 11. Dallas Keuchel has been rocked recently and with Braun due back, the Brewers should reach him.

Gallardo has been struggling of late too, but the Astros rank 27th in runs scored and shouldn't be giving him sleepless nights. This Houston lineup is hitting just .156 against him with a .188 OBP and he's 11-2 lifetime against them.

I don't enjoy exotic bets, but Keuchel is particularly vulnerable early and Houston stink, so for a little early morning entertainment, I'll take a couple of the more interesting handicaps.
