Sorry chaps. I've scrapped the invitation element: I never liked it. BF kindly deleted the other thread at my request.
It seems like the hardcore players are the only ones interested anyway, but all are welcome. Please bear in mind this is a commitment for the next 20 years though
Let's make it £35 - deep prizes and the usual most improved manager prize.
We'll thrash out the keeper details in the next few days.
We'll get the league set up, Ron and get the draft date/time settled, then thrash out the technicalities. I don't anticipate it'll be too innovative, but I think we'll need to tweak it and roster size/composition are in the mix. Maybe a smaller player universe too?
Hosting on a site where minor leaguers are available might be a thought.

Will be honest with you, I have only ever played one league where it was AL only and hated it. That league also had Mi Ci and 5 OFs. The squads were just too big and player pool too shallow to truly enjoy.

i didn't enjoy our al only league here last year, because the talent pool was too small (also because i made a dogs dinner of the draft ). Not keen on playing on a different site to espn, i fear i would neglect the league as i tend to do in the only football league i play away from espn

Guys ...I#ve played yahoo, espn and cbs ....I think for keeper league purposes CBS is the most sophisticated especially given the depth of player pool which for a true keeper league is what you need.
I know that many were not keen on the CBS interface when used before but it has improved somewhat over the last year.
To a certain extent the keeper league rules/constitution need not be buttoned down at this stage as in the first year it will be the auction that helps select the teams. As ive said before I an involved now with 2 dynasty leagues one of which I have just joined ...the other one is fairly complex and has developed over twenty years ...the new one i am involved with was set up in 2009 and is simpler and would probably suit us ...I am happy to forward a copy of the league constitution and it may be that we decide to accept something similar.
The basics are as follows ...mixed league ...12 teams but can be increased ...23 active slots C, 1B, 2B 3B, SS, CI. MI. 5 OF, 2 U. 9 P ... all initially chosen at auction. There are 9 reserve slots which are chosen by a snake draft straight after the auction ....usual scoring categories ...$100 FAAB FA pick ups in season with $0 bids allowed ...in season and pre season trading allowed/
Going into 2nd season you are allowed to keep a maximum of 5 keepers frpm ur 32 man squad. The salaries are based on their value at the previous auction ...therefore if Kinsler was won at $22 at previous auction then his keeper value is $22 plus $5 ...a total of $27 being deducted from the $260 available to you at the coming auction.
In the team I have inherited I have players like Kemp (29), Fielder (31), Tulo (27), Kinsler (22), Upton (20), Lester (25), Carpenter (26) ...if I keep 5 of those I have to add $5 to each one which would take up over $150 - $160 leaving $100 or so for upcoming auction.
Players picked up as FA are allocated their auction values or FAAB bid values ...whichever is greater and players picked up on the reserve draft are automatically valued at $1
So the strategy is do u keep top players and have much less money to spend at auction or do you get cheaper players with upside ...
I have traded Upton away and received Pineda ($1) and Beachy ($1). I shall keep Kemp ($29 + $5), Tulo ($27 + $5), Wieters ($7 + $5), Pineda ($1 + $5) and Beachy ($1 + $5). Total ....$90 ... leaving me $170 for the auction
Guys ...that would allebiate any issues of developing players or keeping studs ....what it does is always give a plentiful pool of studs to obtain at the auction
Sorry if I'm telling you thing you already know but thought you'd find it useful ...basic point is if we set up a keeper league we needn't reinvent the wheel ...hope this helps

CBS was what I was trying to introduce, like a jellied camera to the rectum.
"Just breath, Mr Orioles"
We used to play at CBS all those years ago, and the player universe was its big draw.
Those auction rules look solid too.

I sense there is a lot of nervousness with regards a keeper league and I imagine the best leagues evolve as players become sophisticated ....in pc terms ...dynasty leagues are organic creatures that are nurtured by the owners over a period of years
I think there is enough expertise and willingness to provide us with a good league ...after all most of us have been playing ROTO together for about 6 or 7 years ...I think this is a natural extension for us lot? It will also make the gap between Oct and April much much shorter!!!
Dave ...I'll send you the constitution and let you distribute it in emails if that's ok? ...the leap of faith required is very small and ultimately very rewarding IMO.

The constitution is being drafted by two of the finest legal minds in the UK and will be sent out as soon as a manager pays their fees!
CBS is miles ahead. We'll host it there. The constitution is being drafted by two of the finest legal minds in the UK and will be sent out as soon as a manager pays their fees!
Gents ...Uncle O has kindly adapted a draft constitution from a precedent I had ....I think you will be pleased with it ....fleshes out what was discussed above and sets us up with a straightforward format which can be adapted as we see fit over the years.
I believe Dave will send out to each of you a copy of the constitution at some point ...the keeper element of course wont kick in until next year so if you think its crap you can treat it as a one year auction league ...but hopefully you wont think that

I added a reply regarding to cbs on the other thread, and before I saw this one. To add to what I already said there - - roster size is customisable at ESPN too - drafts and values are logged in ESPN leagues so we`d have no issue seeing who spent what and on whom in the draft - FAAB is also on ESPN - we can keep track of these trades and values even if ESPN doesnt give a tool for it
I have no issues with a move to CBS other than the $160 cost ($180 if you dont get the early special) , which isnt at all worth it when it doesnt add anything to what we can do for free at ESPN.
thoughts ?
