Ross - these two have combined to go over the line 13 from 18 games this year, overs is probably a safe play.
Refreshed after the bye Rivers has some weapons back, and right now I make Rivers the best QB in football, at stages this year he's been throwing to 7th and 8th choice receivers, and the numbers he's been putting up have been staggering. Take away their special teams woes and they'd be close to 100%.
I'll take Chargers to cover and the overs in a 34-20 win or thereabouts

agreed horse9 icant believe how chargers are 4-5 only because of the special teams really rivers is in good form and have players coming back

Nothing straightforward about punting heavy spreads in divisional games normally and this one could easily end inside a touchdown either way.

i would be inclined to cover

even the chargers "special" squadsters cant piss this one up.  they may or may not make it close but shirley theyll at least win the game.

It wasn't that many years ago that special teams was almost non existent, it was a case of safely punting the things away and maybe conceding 15 yards on the return, kick returns for TD's was virtually unheard of, the last few years teams have developed ST strategies and made this part of the game equally important as the Defence and Offence.
And it's not just been ST with the Chargers, there have been some dumbe arse plays - who was the receiver that completed his first ever reception a few weeks back, wasn't touched and just left the live ball on the turf, the oppo defence picked the thing up and ran it 50 yards back I think.
Just dumb.
One day they'll click in all three areas and they'll kill someone by 40 odd points, they really are that talented IMO, and still very much superbowl contenders

special teams always been important since I started watching NFL. Super Bowl XvIII Raiders blocked a punt for a TD. Bengals returned a punt for a TD in their 2nd Super Bowl against the 49ers. Bears returned opening kick off vs Indy didn't they?

It's always happened Rich but more frequently in the modern game.
Turning point was probably around 12-15 years ago I'd say, much greater focus from coaches.
ST players are the only players who don't have a recognised position on the field - players like Josh Cribbs and Darren Sproles have made careers out of ST, not sure I can remember too many from past generations doing that

Backed Moreno under 60.5 yards. Only gone over that line once this year and most of that game was garbage time due to their big lead. Chargers ranked 3rd in rush D despite playing some decent rush teams. Hopefully they get ahead early ad force Denver to throw.

Betfred in running still had chargers -7.5 on screen after the big pass. I thought that looks great considering where they are but when it processed it said accepted at -10.5. Seething!

Always thought Rivers was a bit of a clown ( a very talented clown)  his first couple of years in the league, but he has really matured into a superstar with a great attitude as well.

That passing attack with Jackson, Gates, Floyd as well as the screens to Sproules is gonna be extremely difficult to stop for the rest of the season.
