Similar reasons for me Fru T Bun. Watching it late at night while doing homework last minute when I was a student. Then a guy I was working with in America one summer was well into baseball and insisted we went along and saw the Richmond Braves play a few times.

Baseball (and the O's) were there for me all those years ago; who am I to turn my back on them now?

living in america did it for me. also being able to go to games (even it was the indians) for a fraction of the cost of going to the footy or rugby helped too.

i blame eurosport. when they stopped covering the night sessions of wta tournaments in the usa i started putting the baseball on for something to watch while following the tennis scoreboards.

very strange it was, and to a large degree still is.

was amused to see spectators fighting to get a ball - at first i wondered if maybe you couldn't buy them in the shops lol. also the little ritual when the manager walks out to change pitcher is very sweet. can you imagine a footie manager doing that when subbing someone?

i still don't understand how sometimes a run is scored when someone is out, but sometimes it isn't. very peculiar.

It's very well-written, informative and interesting. I keep a stock of them for non-believers

i am serious that i don't understand why on the 3rd out sometimes a run is scored, but sometimes not. but i'm not that bothered to find out lol

pitching changes are another thing. i mean look at the sf game - runzler just blew the top of the sox order apart, only pitched 2 innings, and he's been pulled. the new bloke's just been spanked. what's that all about ffs? lol

My sister moved to Toronto in the late 90's. I went out to see her, found myself in Toronto one day just before a game was starting and decided to go.
Knew absolutely fckall about the game but was mesmerised by a pitcher called Roger Clemens.Loved the fun atmosphere, and when someone hit a home run nearly got blasted out of my seat as a bloody great horn went off. Sat in the sun with the CN tower rising above the stadium, jumping around at the 7th inning stretch - I had absolutely no idea what was going on. I was hooked.
I've been out there 8 times now, always for a month at a time, always during the season, and in recent years always to tie in with Doc on the mound at home.
She still lives there, and I still tell her that one year I might make two trips - one planned and one for the post season. You can but dream.

good value losers, a runner can score from a ground out or fly out. As soon as the ball is caught on a fly out the runner can leave his base and attempt to advance. As for a ground he can run as soon as the ball hits the bat... it can only happen if the team has less than two outs if that makes sense

As for pitchers getting pulled when they are doing well, it is to help the team long term. A relievers arm can't normally handle more than two innings regularly...

I'd only ever seen a couble of games on Tv & hated it - probably because I didn't understand or appreciate it. Now live in Toronto & have much more of an appreciation for the game (even thought the Jays slump is just picking up pace). Like cricket, when you go to it & see a game in play you get much more of an appreciation of the skill, speed, athleticism on show.

There are way too many games & 9 innings is too long IMO but it is what it is. I've grown to really enjoy it, something I never expected at all.

1988. had to leave liverpool for a while. ended up in america. first game i ever saw was game 1 of the 88 world series. dull as until this bloke hobbled out of the dug out and blasted the winning runs. a loss to a win in one hit. obsessed over the rules and stats all winter. sad thing was i was home by july 89 so after a long wait following the 88 series half a season were the only games i saw as they happened for a long time.

The bloke that hobbled out of the dug out to hit the walk off home run off Eck was appointed Manager of the Diamondbacks yesterday.

Anyhoo, the world series started and it was Yanks v Dbacks.............

I watched this series when 'revising' for my exams. After that I was hooked..

i may not be as dedicated as some of you guys but i have a love of the game, like many, from that epic NY Mets - Bosox WS classic. I had to support the sox after that heartbreak but since they have become champs and everybody has climbed on board my love has waned a touch, they are still my AL team but i now have the Brewers to drink to.
Im going to my first ever live game in August - Yanks vs BJ's which im really looking forward to.

I still prefer NFL but since my brother moved near Toronto in 2002 i have taken a keen interest in baseball and in particular the Bluejays.I have still not seen a game in a stadium,tho i did watch a few minutes of a game from the top of the CN tower.A few years back i was one of those people who dismissed the game as rounders and now i have ESPN America and watch the game over most traditional "English" sports!!

knew absolutely nil about the game till I lived in the states and then grew to love the game,of course backing the red sox to win the world series, when they did actually go on and win despite being 3-0 down to the yanks helped :-) and going to the games-goodtimes! just like most sports you really you have to have an understanding of the finer points to truly enjoy it-and go the Royals

went to a white sox rays game when on holiday last year,amazing indoor stadium and tickets were $20 each,was sitting up in the the clouds tho but still great.

Never liked the game at all, until...

One night I was stuck in Newark airport, and the only thing to do was drink beer in the bar...and the NYY game was on the TV.

I ended up chatting to the barman, who started to explain a few things about the game to me.

Once I understood it, it was more enjoyable.

Back home, late at night, I started watching it more and more as there was bugger all else on.

Now I love the game, but just wish there was liquidity...cause its a f**king nightmare to trade!!
